[Goanet] Centenary of the Portuguese Republic - Screening of AFIRMA PEREIRA
Dear All, CLP/Instituto Camões is following up the commemorations of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic by screening “Sostienne Pereira”, a Luso-Italian production, directed by Roberto Faenza (1995) based on Antonio Tabucchi’s novel, on 17th October 2010 (Sunday), at 4.00 pm, at the Instituto Camões premises. Synopsis: This drama, set in 1938, chronicles a month in the life of the Portuguese journalist Pereira. He is first seen as a lonely, widowed, and overweight editor of the culture page of a second-rate Lisbon newspaper. Earlier in his career, he had been a news reporter. Pereira is fascinated with old literature; he is also obsessed with death. He hires himself an assistant, Monteiro Rossi, to prepare obituaries for old writers before they die. The young man and his girlfriend are both passionate fighters against the dictatorship in Portugal. Dear friends, The Centro de Língua Portuguesa/Instituto Camões is organizing in Panjim an exhibition of posters «Letras e Cores, Ideias e Autores da República» to mark the commemorations of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic. 10 illustrators have been invited to work on 10 topics of the Republic, based on the work of some Portuguese contemporary writers. Dr. António José Marques Sabido Costa, Consul General of Portugal in Goa, will inaugurate the exhibition on 16th October, at 6.00 pm, at the premises of CLP/Instituto Camões, Agva House, 9/32, Dr. dada Vaidya Road, Panaji. The story is centred on a fictional aristocratic heroine who comes across the important personalities of the last days of the Monarchy. D. Manuel II, José Relvas and Machado dos Santos are some of the relevant protagonists in the events showcased by this film. «República» (2010), directed by Jorge Paixão da Costa, Portuguese language (no English subtiltles), color, 110 mins, starring: Helena Costa, Pedro Lamares, Joaquim de Almeida, Cassiano Carneiro. Dear Friends, Following the conference of Prof. Dr. Manuel Ferro held on 23th September at our premisses in Panjim, Centro de Língua Portuguesa/Instituto Camões, in collaboration with Centre for Portuguese Language and Culture, Chowgule College, is organizing an exhibition of posters «Letras e Cores, Ideias e Autores da República» to mark the commemorations of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic. 10 illustrators have been invited to work on 10 topics of the Republic, based on the work of some Portuguese contemporary writers. Eduardo Kol de Carvalho, Director of Fundação Oriente in India, will inaugurate the exhibition on 5th October, at 6.00 pm, at the Art Gallery, Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts Science, Margão. Thereafter, Patrícia Geraldes, a Portuguese artist who is an Inov-arts grant recipient conducting her residency at Sunaparanta, will delivered a talk entitled «A glance at the Portuguese Art during the Republican period: Amadeo de Sousa Cardoso, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Júlio Pomar».
