What is your point? You can't dismiss an argument by arguing against a person. FN 2009/9/27 Rajan P. Parrikar parri...@yahoo.com: To Goanet - From the department of laugh-him-out-of-town - we now have a bhailo scum dispensing advice to Goans on the course Goa should take. This is the same fellow, mind you, who would be in jail if the law had been allowed to take its course. Dear bhailo slumdog, get over it. You don't get to tell Goans what to and what not to do. Go back to your Indian sewer. An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: argument to the person or argument against the person) is an argument which links the validity of a premise to a characteristic or belief of a person advocating the premise http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem -- FN +91-9822122436 P +91-832-2409490 Updated: http://goabooks.wordpress.com

What is your point? You can't dismiss an argument by arguing against a person. FN Hi FN: We will have all the time to listen to Sinha's vision for Goa once he does his jail term for the molestation. Reminds me of great hackers who get arrested by the FBI. First, they do their jail term, and then are hired by FBI itself as security consultants. regards, Samir

I do not know exactly what Rajan's point is - though I have a fair idea. My point is this Just imagine the dictator Salazar giving us a lecture on Democracy. Or Mugabe, Hitler and Pol Pot advising us on Human Rights. What would a reasonable person's reaction be? May I also ask - If the Goa journos did a follow up on the 'Sinna-man's' issue AND/OR if the Goa advocates who go after 'Scarlett' mothers and others, sought to have the Goa Children's Act 2003 ...enforced? jc [1] Rajan Parrikar wrote: From the department of laugh-him-out-of-town - we now have a bhailo scum dispensing advice to Goans on the course Goa should take. Even if you don't like what the editor of the Navhind Times is saying in this and other editorials/articles, it is not fair to argue by making allegations against his reputation. This is an ad hominem attack. QUOTE /Ad hominem/ abusive (also called /argumentum ad personam/) usually and most notoriously involves insulting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insult or belittling one's opponent, but can also involve pointing out factual but ostensible character flaws or actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions. This tactic is frequently employed as a propaganda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda tool among politicians http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politician who are attempting to influence the voter base in their favor through an appeal to emotion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_emotion rather than by logical means, especially when their own position is logically weaker than their opponent's. *Examples:* * You can't believe Jack when he says God exists. He doesn't even have a job. * Candidate Jane's proposal about zoning is ridiculous. She was caught cheating on her taxes in 2003.
