GFA targets 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s WC bid

GFA President Churchill Alemao today met with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in order to get the Government's guarantees to present a bid to FIFA to consider Goa as a venue for the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Goa in 2020. The bid documents that are needed by GFA are host city agreement, stadium agreement,  training site agreement, the same that were presented for hosting the FIFA Under-17 Men's World Cup that was held in Goa in 2017. The GFA had asked the SAG and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs to secure the guarantees and V M Prabhudesai had in turn sought the Govt's approval which needed a Cabinet nod. The note was submitted on November 5. Since there was no response from the Government, Churchill called on Parrikar late Monday evening and Parrikar promised to do the needful and asked the GFA chief to meet him again on Thursday when the concerned officials would be called and necessary guarantees given, since the deadline for further submission is December 28. “I have discussed the documents needed with our CM and he has assured that he will do the needful. Football is our State sports and I will do my best to give best to the State. Right now I’m concentrating to get the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to Goa and have requested the CM to help us in the same,” explained GFA President Churchill Alemao. Churchill sounded positive that Parrikar would ensure that the three guarantees would be given and the bid would be considered by FIFA. Churchill stressed that since Goa had organised the FIFA men's event successfully with the Govt providing the guarantees, it would not be a problem to secure the same now for hosting the 2020 event.
