The Goa Human Rights Commission on Wednesday 13th January will hear the
complaint filed over the 21st November last year police atrocity at Panaji
against peaceful demonstrators.

The three member Goa Human Rights Commission headed by Justice
P.K.Misra and comprising of retired District Judge A.D. Salkar and Mr.
J.A.Keny has already issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director
General of Police to appear before the Commission.

In the complaint attention has been drawn of the Commission to the police
atrocity against the November 21st peaceful protest by individual citizens
held at Panaji demanding a free, fair and impartial probe into the sudden
death of activist priest Fr. Bismarque Dias.

The Goa Police personnel very high-handedly abused their powers and used
excessive criminal force and manhandled the protesters without any
provocation. The peaceful protestors came to be manhandled and arrested
though they had not infracted the provisions of Section 144. Even innocent
bystanders including Senior Citizens including women came to be ruffled and
arrested by the police.

Submitted to the Commission are copies of newspaper reports and 23
photographs showing citizens being manhandled by the police. It has been
sought that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police be directed
to explain as to how they have in violation of Human Rights allowed the
peaceful protesters to be manhandled so inhumanly.
