ANNUAL GOAN INTER-VILLAGE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
2nd QF - Varca Sports Club -4 v/s Saligao Village Foxes-2
Varca thrashed Saligao Village Foxes by 4-2 margin in the 2nd Quarter-Final
of Goan Inter-village football tournament organized by Goan Cultural Society
at Al Nasr Sports Club grounds. Varca dominated the proceedings and made a
series of stunning runs down the flanks through their strikers Shane Thomas,
Steven Gurung and Lynton D'Souza. Saligao too responded well and would have
been 1 up in 10th. Min but Mac Fernandes shot on Ajay Vase free-kick pass
failed to find the nets. Minute later, Shane Thomas of Varca missed the
target as his shot from close range hit the bar. However, Franky Barreto
gave early lead to Varca in 13th min. on Shane's cross. Two minutes later,
Franky scored again on Lynton D'Souza's pass to see Varca go 2-0 up at
drinks break. Saligao took early initiative after the break, but missed
good chances to reduce the margin. On the other side, Varca kept pressure
on Saligao defence and made some brilliant moves by Lynton , Shane and
Levin Fernandes. Varca succeeded in increasing tally to 4-0 through
brilliant shots from Lynton in 5th min. and Levin in 15th min. Saligao
managed to reduce the margin by scoring 2 goals in quick succession through
their veteran Boney Fernandes. Franky Barreto awarded Man of the Match for
his dazzling display. Now Varca will clash with Siolim United in first
semi-final on 17th October at Al Nasr grounds.

Friday 13th October, UAE Exchange Abu Dhabi Chinchinim takes on Emirates ICA
ABC Benaulim in 3rd QF, whilst Eurostar First Logistics Anjuna meets Al
Zuari F.C. in the 4th QF on 14th October.
Both semi-finals will take place on 17th October and the Grand Finals is
slated for Friday,20 October at Al Tayer (Al Nasr) stadium. Mr.
Francisco(Micky) Pacheco,Goa's Minister of Agriculture and Animal
Husbandary will be the chief guest for the final.
