[Goanet] HOW LONG DO SOULS LANGUISH IN PURGATORY

Who will be one with God ? To know about ‘who God is and about Hell
and Heaven, below Are appended two links to watch on youtube. As for
the Judgement, even Jesus Christ did not condemn the woman caught for
adultery. In Verse John 8 : 10 – 11. Jesus straightened up and asked
her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,”
she said. “Then neither do I condemn. And Verse 1 John 1 : 7 says
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin.
Some time back, On Goanet there was a posting of the Article in 4
parts, GOD - Do you know ? part 1 of 4 (English). These articles
were based on the discourse below named ‘Zana Za Devak Tujea’

The above will tell us how long we languish in Purgatory
Remember The Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man ( Luke 16 : 19- 31).
God is merciful but that does not give us the liberty to sin.

Marshall/Nelson,
1. You can drastically reduce your time in purgatory by following Pope
Francis in Twitter. The Pope explains it well and I estimate I will spend 7
to 8 seconds there.

2. If the devil punishes people for their sins, how can the devil be a bad
person? Why is hell thought of as a bad place when the evil are finally
paying for their sins?

3. I like your idea of paying a priest to help *celebrate some
occasion/event/ festival etc.)*

4. Amen.

5. If I have understood you correctly, you are saying that people who
worship false gods - can be good people - and go to heaven?

[Goanet] HOW LONG DO SOULS LANGUISH IN PURGATORY

2016-04-19 Thread Marshall Mendonza
Nelson, when I was a just a teenager and in school, I too wondered about
this. My father who was a very devout man would offer masses for his
parents, grand parents and sundry other relatives who were dead and gone
ages ago. I found this very unconvincing. One day I mustered courage and
questioned him. I asked him:
1. how long will you go on offering masses for the dead? I added perhaps
with some thoughtlessness and lack of tact that if the souls were still in
purgatory even after 20-25 years, then they must have lived very
unchristian lives.
2. what happens to those who have no families to offer masses for their
souls? Do they linger in purgatory forever?
3. what happens to those who are non-catholics? Does it mean that only
Catholics go to heaven and the rest are banished to hell even if they led
exemplary lives?
4. Does it mean that if one were to lead a very unchristian life but plenty
of masses were offered for this person's soul, then his soul would go to
heaven faster?
5. Does offering masses fast track a person's release from purgatory?
6. What happens to the poor who do not have the means to offer masses? Do
they linger in purgatory?

My father was very understandably upset. He immediately met the parish
priest the next day and invited him home to speak to me. When the parish
priest came over, I repeated my questions to him and expressed my view that
it appeared that religion was commercialised. Those who could afford and
pay could lead whatever lives they wanted so long as they could pay for
masses to be said after their death. The rest of us were damned in
purgatory just as we were damned here on earth.

After listening to me, this is what the parish priest said:
1. no one knows how long a soul lies in purgatory. It depends on the life
that person lived on earth.
2. heaven and hell are concepts meant to make people live good lives.
Basically reward and punishment.
3. Priests do not earn any salary or income. They are at the service of the
community for their spiritual matters. Hence to provide them with a source
of income, masses were offered for which they received a small stipend.
Masses for the dead, masses out of gratitude for some wish fulfilled ( safe
pregnancy, passing exams, marriage, safe journey, good job, celebrate some
occasion/event/ festival etc.).
4. Masses are offered for ALL souls at every mass, though mention is made
of the person for whom the mass is offered.
5. It is wrong to assume that only Catholics will go to heaven. All those
who have led good lives, whether catholics or non-catholics go to heaven.
It is the life that we lead that will decide where we go.
6. Purgatory is like a period of repentence.

Trust I have been able to some extent been able to answer your query.

Regards,

Marshall

*I wish some can explain the length of time after the death the masses

[Goanet] HOW LONG DO SOULS LANGUISH IN PURGATORY

2016-04-18 Thread Nelson Lopes
How long do the souls continue to languish in purgatory?
For many more years do we have to offer masses or the souls of our dear
ones and others in purgatory ? Do we believe that they will languish
indefinitely in this state? We believe that many souls go to purgatory, but
much more enjoy the presence of God. Few faithful offer perpetual masses at
different congregations, especially, those that are skeptic about being
forgotten by their progeny and those that have no immediate family to
remember them. The Church by traditions accepts masses for the souls of the
dead on the day of burial, seven days, month , year, second and third year,
After that period there is no preference offered by the church in accepting
such prayers, and the second intentions no remuneration is accepted By the
way at all daily masses and after very decade of Rosary, the dead are
regularly remembered, Besides on all souls day in particular the souls in
purgatory are being remembered and prayed for Is it correct position that
when we offer masses in specific names ? n some Churches names of dead
souls are not announced at all before the beginning of Eucharistic
celebrations. Is not b advisable that the sacrifice of the mass is offered
to the souls in purgatory in general? If every time when we participate in
the Holy Eucharist can we not offer for such intention? The rosary and
other structured and spontaneous prayers, sacrifices et can be not be
offered for such intentions? Can we not offer regular charity to the needy
and deserving with the same intentions? Do the souls in purgatory appear
and request for hundred of masses for their deliverance? The mass stipend
as we understand is only for the maintenance of the priest and no value can
be attached to it
I wish some can explain the length of time after the death the masses are
to be offered in general .Is it guilt and fear of retribution that makes
relatives resort to this practice out of guilt complex ? Many are of the
firm belief that unless we pay the stipend it is not valid sacrifice .There
