About shipping personal goods to Goa . Yes you can do that Check with your
Local freight Agents or Contact Our Freight Agent - Rapat Freight ( tel 020
8570 ) Mr Kirthbhai ( very helpful person ) at Heathrow . ( they will
also at a charge collect the goods from your house in London / UK ).ASk them
the Freight Charges Documentation Charges, collection Charges etc etc
before you make any decesions . Also shop around for Freight Charges .(
charges are per kilo the more kilos you take the cheaper it gets as
documentation charges only are about £70 - £90 pounds plus the weight
charges )

I did the same took some belongings and Clothes etc to Goa about two years
ago ( tell him to put it on a Direct Flight ( monarch etc etc ).If you are
Going to Goa on a direct flight then they may be also able to put it on the
same flight as yours , Check with them first ??,
Secondly dont send to early as you will pay demmurage charges in Goa by the
week . Try and ask the freight agent to send it the week you are leaving UK
so that you can go there and collect at customs in Vasco on the next day you
arrive in Goa .or wait till Goa customs send to your local address ( which
should be provided to them on the packages ) in Goa a reminder Notice of the
arrival of your goods. You will have to go with your passport documents
early in the morning as there are big ques( sometimes it may take a day or
two to clear so be aware of the sussegad formalities ( unless you have
contact in the customs and are ready to pay )

good luck . keep in touch

Kind regards,

Cyril Pereira

RESPONSE: I know of one person who has Indian Nationality, who has moved
lock, stock and barrel from the U.K. to Navelim, Goa. The container arrived
directly in Goa. My cousin too, from Dubai sent a container to Goa. The
customs are pretty sticky, irrespective of whether the goods are old nor
not...seems some greasing or influence is needed! The person from Navelim
will be here in London for the Navelim Feast day celebrations. I shall
enquire and post the experience here on Goanet.

Few years back, I remember a gulfy whose cargo came few days after he arrive in
Goa. He cleared collected it from MPT port. Don't know how he did it.

Last year, we enquired at LGW airport counter, and they say they can send it to
Goa via Bombay. Don't know if they can send by direct chartered flights.

If you are returning for good, following items you can bring (one item each per
family) as customs free allowance (no duty).
But there is a procedure for this. You may take expert help on this. You can
build a complete package as Returning NRI.
There are other benefits too.

VCR/ VCD player
Washing machine
Cooking range
Desktop computer
Laptop computer
Refrigerator of capacity upto 300 litres

And here was I thinking that India with all the gobalization brouhaha
would have allowed returning Indians to bring whatever personal items
they wished to. Like Canada allowing you to bring unrestricted
personal items (in non-commercial quantities of course) without any
duty, when you first immigrate.
