[Goanet] Indian Boors

[Goanet] Indian boors in Switzerland
Rajan Parrikar wrote : Kachraa baahar mat phenkiye. Yahaan daal dijiye." (Do not litter. Throw your trash HERE.) It was clear right away that the Indian hordes had been treating Switzerland like their personal trash bag and that the Swiss were not going to stand for it. I mean, Swiss and clean are synonyms. There were reports at the time (one even made it into The Lonely Planet edition on Switzerland) of Indians getting into arguments at Swiss hotels after hearing of the high tariffs. It wasn't just that Indians were boors; they were scheming boors (like paying for one buffet breakfast while the whole family took turns digging into it). Well, now I guess the Swiss have had enough of desis. The Swiss like your cash, of course, but they like their 'Swiss clean' even more, and they won't let you ghatify their magnificent country. They are realizing that desis are a bad bad bargain. By the way, we Goans should have picked up on the Swiss tourism formula long ago and focused on high-end tourism. Come to Goa, give us your cash, then go home. Don't stay here. Instead, look what we did - we sold our land and our souls to those uncouth N Indians. Comments : Rajan’s article makes very interesting reading. India and more so Goa which is a world famous tourist destination has to learn a lot from other countries like Switzerland as regards cleanliness. Generally we Indians are very conscious of cleanliness while abroad (maybe we are forced to out of fear of the law) while back home they treat it with callousness and treat as their personal garbage bin. Many Indians will keep their houses spic and span but their surroundings are of no concern to them. They believe that filth should not be in their backyard but can remain in theirneighbour’s/others' backyard. Many will enjoy picnics and will then leave the place in a mess with all their leftovers and garbage. They don’t bother about others who would come to enjoy. This may be because of no law/penalties regarding filth. It is not that only illiterates litter as often respectable well educated people do the same. However these same literate educated people are gentlemen abroad and make sure that garbage is disposed of in the right manner. It is high time that the Goa Government and even the Indian Government comes out with strict laws to tackle littering and filth. Unless people contributing to filth are disgraced and penalised these people will continue adding to spoiling the surroundings. Maybe there should be more publicity on TV and mass media explaining the dangers of filth and littering and sign boards put up at strategic locations. If only we follow the example of cleanliness abroad, Goa will be such a lovely place as it is. Camilo Fernandes _ The latest in fashion and style in MSN Lifestyle http://lifestyle.in.msn.com/
[Goanet] Indian boors in Switzerland
To Goanet - "In June, the Zurich newspaper Tages-Anzeiger featured an article with the headline “Into the Luxury Hotel with a Gas Cooker,” noting that “in some hotels an entire caste of guests is no longer desired: the Indians.” http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/12/world/europe/12swiss.html?_r=1 My remarks: Some years ago, I was in Interlaken when I saw a large tour bus disgorge a menagerie of Indians. Their mere sight was embarrassing, to say the least, and I quickly put a lot of distance between them and I. I also noticed that there were now signs in Hindi with arrows pointing to the trash bins in the towns frequented by Indian tourists: "Kachraa baahar mat phenkiye. Yahaan daal dijiye." (Do not litter. Throw your trash HERE.) It was clear right away that the Indian hordes had been treating Switzerland like their personal trash bag and that the Swiss were not going to stand for it.
