With the aim to give a fillip to the ongoing efforts to preserve the history and priceless memories and to create awareness on Photo preservation, conservation and restoration, The Goa Centre for Alternative Photography (Goa CAP) and the Goa Chitra Museum, in collaboration with Goa State Museum, Goa, has initiated the ‘Historical Photo Restoration Week’ to promote public education and awareness on conservation, restoration and preservation of the historical photographs to protect our vast Goan visual heritage. Hon. Minister for Environment, Forest and Museum, Ms. Alina Saldanha has consented to be the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. The workshop would begin on January 31st, 2014 and conclude on February 3rd, 2014 at Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim. With the prime focus on preserving the rich visual legacy of the Goa, the initiative encompasses four areas of action and dialogue. This comprises: Family Photo exhibition from 31st Jan - 3rd Feb, 9 AM-6 PM. The exhibition will be open for the general public. Inaugural and Introduction to Family Photographs and ways to preserve them, Illustrated talk by Ms. Gisela Harich and Dr. Savia Viegas on 31st Jan, 6 PM. The introduction will be open for the general public. A Workshop on Photography Conservation by Ms. Gisela Harich on 1st Feb - 2nd Feb 10 AM-5 PM. The workshop will be for registered guests interested in learning Photography Conservation. An Open House and a Portfolio Consultation Day between 3rd Feb 10AM - 1 PM. Open to the public on prior appointment. The expert consultation and advice on the protection and restoration of damaged photographs and of photo albums would be provided at no extra cost to the general public attending the event. The Visiting renowned expert for the Historical Photography Restoration Week is Ms. Gisela Harich-Hamburger, Head of Foundation at the Conservation Center of Photography in Berlin. Goan expert Dr. Savia Viegas to present her research on family photographs and albums. Those who wish to participate in the workshop should keep in mind that the objective of the workshop is to identify various types of photographic materials as well as to discuss conservation solutions to damages, we request to bring with you different types of photographic materials as well as damages so that we can discuss how to treat them. Please note that there are limited seats for the actual workshop on 1st and 2nd Feb 2013. The workshop includes morning tea with snacks, working lunch and evening tea with snacks.
