Renew your wedding vows in Goa, or gift a Ceremony Package to a close couple Multiple options to make your day extra special! http://www.renewalsetc.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dears, The Sunday Navhind Times of 16 Nov. ,2008, reports thus: "Mr Gokuldas Prabhu, briefing the media said that Kundapur village is a remote place, but includes secular Konkani community which loves and respects the language." The TOI report of the same day reported "remote village" having a "huge Konkani speaking population" ...and also the "Bhandarkar College campus" I know that Kundapur is the home village of Mr. Kundapur Dattaram Bhat, the Executive Director of Photophone/PHIL Corporation in Goa. So, it cannot still be a small, remote village with a college. Is the Konkani community always "secular" or is it only in Kundapur and hence the prefix? What does "secular" really mean? Tolerance of all religions in one area or absence of religion or exclusion of all but one religion in an area .... so that the other religions can be tolerated on the outside ... or choosing representatives of other religions who share one's views, though not the religion [as done in quite a few "Official language" bodies in Goa]? If the All India Konkani Parishad [allegedly an unregistered association] is telling us "cock and bull" stories about a "remote village" with a college, the less said about their stand on Konkani [Ek Bhas, ek lipi, ek sanskruti, ek samaj] and the use of internet for emailing prose and poems in Devanagri [Fr. Jaime Couto is the only person who sent me Devanagri fonts and links to rediffmail so that I may read the couple of basic emails in Devanagri he sent to me, obviously with great effort], the better. Nothing has come of their tall promises made at the AIKP session on 10 February, 2007, a t Kala Academy, Panaji, when Dr. Ramdas Nagesh Karmali had made just such a presentation. Possibly the same was done at Cochin in February, 2008. It would be nice if the AIKP actually manages to find some simple way of sending emails and SMS in Devanagri ...and uses it without making the Catholic Church and Goa Government into a donor agency or BPO or both as done for the Primary schools in what is euphemitically called as "local language" aka Konkani. The other things called "local" include seedling/sucking mangoes normally used for pickle and the Goan spirit that gets one "pickled". So do the GPS [Govt. Primary Schools] in the BPO era. They are used as a last resort ...when one cannot afford the costs of the superior stuff ...just like "local" mangoes of unknown quality. Incidentally, the AIKP conference and the Carnival are both held in February each year ...and both are partly sponsored by the Government of Goa with the money you and I pay as tax. What a coincidence! Mog asundi Miguel Kundapur meet to discuss promotion of Konkani NT NETWORK Posted on 2008-11-16 Kundapur meet to discuss promotion of Konkani PANAJI - The 19th All India Konkani Literary Conference will be held in Kundapur village of the Udupi district, in Karnataka on February 7 and 8, 2009. The conference will have a number of seminars discussing promotion and expansion of Konkani language at the global level. The president of the All India Konkani Parishad, Mr Shantaram Naik, addressing a press conference on Friday said that the literary conference is being held for the first time in a remote area. However, we have made all arrangements for transportation and accommodation of the participants as well as delegates of the event from Goa and elsewhere, he added. A seminar on effective propagation of Konkani literature through electronic medium would be a highlight of the literary conference, Mr Naik said and added that another seminar would be about the possibility of spreading social messages concerning AIDS, social discrimination, gender discrimination, national integration, literary temperament, nationalism, etc, through Konkani language. The local host for the meet will be "Jai Konkani", an organisation working for the development of Konkani in Kundapur, it was informed. Dr H Shantaram is the chairman of the reception committee constituted for the literary meet, while Mr Shyam Karanje is its working president. The president of the working committee, Mr Gokuldas Prabhu, briefing the media said that Kundapur village is a remote place, but includes secular Konkani community which loves and respects the language. He further observed that the Christian community in Karnataka has substantially contributed towards Konkani literature. It was also informed that the Karnataka Governor, Mr Rameshwar Thakur or the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr S Yediurappa are two probable chief guests who will open the two-day event. -- -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
