[Goanet] LETTER TO EDITOR
The sordid happenings at Pathankhot over the last few days should be an eye opener. India desperately needs a full time, dedicated and competent Defence Minister. The current incumbent who also merrily doubles up as the de- facto Chief Minister of Goa over the weekends has failed to ably lead the defence forces. His priority has been to keep himself embroiled in Goa’s petty municipal and panchayat politics. Manohar Parrikar relishes in inaugurating roads, culverts, all and sundry while lowering the esteem and honor the very high position of Defence Minister entails. Not long ago while Narendra Modi was inking the Rafale fighter jet deal in France his Defence Minister was inaugurating a mobile fish stall in Goa. When Modi went to Russia to sign the chopper deal, Manohar Parrikar was nowhere in sight. Probably, Modi chose to leave his Defence minister behind, lest he commits a gaffe. After his disastrous three year tenure as Chief Minister of Goa, the awfully ego puffed Manohar Parrikar has ended up over the last year a catastrophe as Defence Minister of India. He has become a laughing stock and object of ridicule. It is high time Narendra Modi sees the writing on the wall and realises that India frantically needs a sincere, honest, competent and level headed Defence Minister. The complete incorrect picture about Pathankhot that was sought to be given, that all operations were over, within a couple of hours, with some BJP MPs, going public in praising the Government, only to be exposed as falsehoods. The immature handling of the entire operation and the selective press leaks, still could not heal the damage done by the incompetent Defence Minister. For Manohar Parrikar, now to come out and claim that there were "some gaps" is nothing but confirming that the gap is caused due to his absence from Delhi on account of his regular hobnobbing in Goa. Mere fact that Manohar Parrikar supported Narendra Modi for his anointing as Leader and future PM, ought not to have allowed Modi to lose his balance with this vital appointment. The position as Defence Minister is surely, not a Chairmanship of a Corporation. Nor is it for someone who seeks to play the role of a cowboy. Manohar Parrikar gave us all those tall sermons on Zero tolerance to Corruption, but the rampant corruption which has ebbed to the peak is there for all to see. It is time for him to gracefully pack off and hang up his very soiled boots. Re: [Goanet] Letter to Editor in today's Herald. Does Goa really need such tourists?
The short answer is: Goa does not need these free-loading tourists. > > Every tourist has a right to visit our beautiful Goa, No! Every tourist does NOT have a right to visit our beautiful Goa. Where did this right come from? Bhutan restricts tourists and permits those who enter under specific conditions. If only Goa could adopt some variant of that idea. From, Adv. John Fernandes, Quepem-Goa. 9822169547 Truth Prevails The shah commission has brought out true face of the mining in Goa and proved beyond doubt that what the concerned citizen of Goa were shouting is true. Congratulation to shah commission for taking great pain and working fearlessly thereby exposing the real culprit involved in the mining scam. That those who were involved in the mining loot amount to Rs.35,000 crore were in collusion with politician and the police particularly from Quepem and Sanguem were involved in filing false and distorted cases against those who were raising their voice against those involved in the loot of Goa and Goans. The Quepem police who had a share in the loot have filed dozens of false and distorted cases against the villagers of Colomba and villagers from other parts of Quepem and Sanguem including against me, as I was supporting the agitators and defending them in the false cases filed by me. In 2008 during an agitation at Quepem, the Quepem police headed by P.I. Santosh Dessai was involved in registering a false and distorted case of attempt to Murder a Police official against me. While investigating the entire loot in mining it is necessary that the assets of the police officer of Quepem, Sanguem and Curchorem police station from 2008 to 2011 required to be investigated as they were also part of the mining loot and have share the loot and in the process have harassed the concerned citizens. The Shah commission has exposed all the looter from left, right, front and back and given them a solid biting. Now they don’t have face to face the public but are shedding crocodile tears.. The government should put all those who are involved in the mining loot or who have been exposed by the Shah commission behind bar. As during their looting period they have put the innocent villagers who were fighting to protect Goa and Goans in collusion with the police and politician behind bar. That all the loot they have committed should be recovered from them then only we can say that all are equal before the law and truth always prevails.

Sir, This is in reference to the news report "Cops to screen cars with tinted films" that appeared in the Herald (6th August 2012). While the cops search for cars with tinted glasses they ignore the violations in the rear number plates of the cars. It is horrifying to see cars and bikes openly flouting the law by displaying number plates which are misleading or not readable even from a distance of two meters. There is even one vehicle openly plying with just the ' 007' and a pistol boldly displayed on the front and rear number plates while the other digits are hardly visible. Is Parivartan Governance about picking and choosing populistic and convenient laws for implementation while the other equally serious offences get overlooked? Soter D'souza Socorro, N. Goa 9890056616
[Goanet] Letter to Editor of Gomantak Times - Dissemination of Ignorance
GULF-GOANS e-NEWSLETTER (since 1994) Dissemination of Ignorance You seem to pay your columnists for disseminating ignorance. Tomazinho Cardozo (03/06) has, a la Goebels, restated his oft debunked lie that Dalgado Konknni Akademi “was established in 1989 in order to fight the injustice meted out to Konkani in Roman script.” I am enclosing herewith a Xerox copy of the title page and verso of the only publication of this academy, “Konkani Orthography in Roman Script.” The verso clearly states that the “booklet of rules and principles prepared by a special committee appointed by Dalgado Konknni Akademi” was published in 1988. Now Tomazinho Cardozo could care to explain: (1) how an academy which was established in 1989 could have published, in 1988, a booklet prepared by its own committee, (2) in what way this booklet contributes to the pursuit of the avowed objective stated by him, and (3) what activities were undertaken by the academy for 15 years, between June 1989 and May 2004, in pursuance of that objective. Until he does this, let him hold his peace on this issue. Yours truly, (S. M. Borges) Nagdoli, Velim – 403 723. Date: 06/06/2009. Encl.: Xerox copy as above. - Forwarded by goa-world.com as received. [Goanet] Letter to Editor (Colva Police)
With regards to stopping the buses at Cortalim; Colva PI's apology is not enough. We need to know specifically which "higher up" ordered him & his men to act. Also I believe that this is the Second Case within the Colva Police jurisdiction, where the higher ups were involved; i.e. do we know who got the Police to disappear at Carmona Gramsabha which resulted in the un-necessary violence? Why are we having so much patience? Enough is Enough. We need to cleanse this police station, as an example for others to follow in their respective areas. We need to name & shame the higher ups!!
