Some of the Other Traditional ?fishing methords are:ZanzallBalo marop (for big fish when it strays into shallow waters)Poshenk (using bare hands) however, this word is also used in differentcontext. Blasio== Thanks Blasio, This is another way of traditional fishing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk2/2188438174/sizes/l/ I think we called this as ‘Hutanni’ It’s made up of bamboo weaving. At one end it has an opening to let the fish in and once the fish in or trapped inside the cage, they find no way out.. Usually, it is kept under the water overnight and lifted early morning. You get all type of fresh water fish including crabs. This is usually used in small streams or ‘koddi’or sankov (small bridge) where water flows one direction Zanzall? Never heard of it but we used another method call ‘fodoll’ It’s like disturbing the shallow water with legs continuously till the water become thick muddy . Some fish used to float e.g. daddio etc Poshenk or Poxenk Yes, I do remember this too. It involves using both hands under water (or reboll) to fetch fish like Gonnke/chicale, Tigur, Lalukio, Ainsoll, kumbarukam, inzllam etc Does anybody remember ‘ainsoll’? It’s a long fish like snake and it can grow as big as ‘divoll’ (rat-snake) . Very difficult to catch as it is very slippery. Sadly, we don’t see it now a day And yes, the other meaning for Poxenk.. How can I forget that? At our time, some of us used to go for cinema at Cine Lata with our girlfriends. If it was Metropole, then the Box (ant) preferred. Half of us not really interested in the movies but ‘poxenk’ Other words or terms for poxenk would be.. Kaloi (as in ‘Bakre-pit kaloi’) Don poixe korun kaddle Some of you can add more joego...@yahoo.co.uk for Goa NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc

Don't remember ainsoll growing as long as a divoll though. But remember fishing something like an eel as long as a divoll in river sal (salt water). Mighty scary creature. Another word or term for poxenk apart from the one you have provided would be Korpoi B Message: 7 Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2009 11:47:35 -0700 (PDT) From: JoeGoaUk joego...@yahoo.co.uk Subject: [Goanet] Let's go fishing: This is called 'Hunttanni' To: goa...@goanet.org Message-ID: 628053.68635...@web25906.mail.ukl.yahoo.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 [Goanet] Let's go fishing: This is called 'Hunttanni' ?? Another type of?traditional fishing This is something new to me, I mean say about 15 years. This type of fishing activities usually seen in the river where there is a low/high tide. ? At Agassaim, they fetch a good catch (fish). I have never witnessed it but we do buy fish from the boys. Again, they (boys) go in the middle of the night say around 3pm, I guess they get fish by stealing from the net/hunttanni?? As we used to steal fish from the 'raponn' net. ? The real Ranponn net is not seen nowadays.? Mechanised trawllers and other motorised fishing boats to blame? ? We use to go to 'Rampnnikodde' at Arossim, Cansaulim, Velsao, Daddo etc Popular Ramponnkar at that time were -Zambllikar (Trio King Antony relative?), Santan 9from Vasco), Pidade (Joekim, Sacramenta Building Cansaulim) etc ? Raponn khuim dovorlia? Surgam Rukakodde (near Casuarina trees) near Horizon hotel. Tamdde Rosteakodde (now main tarred?road to Velsao Beach) Santna-ghe Kuddikode (Kudd means a big and along hut/house which used to house the big/large boat (Rampnni Voddem) during mansoon and the permannat workers who worked for Ramponnkars, mainly Goans) ?
