Lucknow Bishop Meets New U.P. Governor

LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh (SAR NEWS) -- Bishop Gerald Mathias of Lucknow
called on the new governor of Uttar Pradesh, B.L. Joshi, at the Raj
Bhavan here, August 27.

He was accompanied by the chancellor of Lucknow Diocese, Father Donald
De Souza, and the principal of Cathedral Senior Secondary School
Lucknow, Father Ronald D’Souza.

At the meeting, the governor showed keen interest in the work of the
Catholic Church in Uttar Pradesh through its educational institutions,
schools for the differently abled and social development centres.

Joshi also appreciated the role of religious leaders in forming the
civil society towards a right value system for state and
nation-building.

The bishop apprised him of the various areas that needed the urgent
attention of the government and the civil society, especially
corruption at different levels. The governor also expressed concern
over the all-pervasive corruption.

Joshi, a former police officer, takes over the reins of the state
after serving as governor of Uttarakhand and Lt. Governor of Delhi.
