This refers to the construction of a Ground + 6 storey Hotel Project that is now in the eye of a storm. The said permission to construct the commercial Hotel Building had been granted to M/S Pentagon Developers in Plot No PTS/ Ch. No 77/190, 191/192 & 193 of Panjim City by the CCP vide its License No 4/80/TS/2005-06/108.
It may be recalled that sometime back, the residents of St. Inez had raised a banner of revolt against this project that was to come up near the Alto St. Inez junction to the left of the slope leading to Altinho, in the ward represented by the Corporator Jyoti Masurkar who incidentally owes her allegiance to the BJP Panel. The residents had then briefed the Deputy Mayor Shri Yatin Parekh and a letter in this regard was also addressed to the Hon' ble Leader of the Opposition and Panaji MLA Shri Manohar Parrikar. We managed to obtain the plans of the project; the same have been uploaded and are available at the link http://picasaweb.google.com/sandeepheble/AltoStInezHotelPlans for perusal. Based on our preliminary and elementary studies, it is quite clear that: 1. When the existing rules and norms clearly stipulate that adequate parking provisions must be provided in the project in proportion to the number of dwelling units, the Town and Country Planning Department has approved the plans despite there being absolutely no provisions for Parking in the Hotel Project. The CCP too has blindly issued the necessary licenses to this project without appropriately inspecting the plans. 2. The present gradient has been wrongly depicted and appears to be more or less flat in the approved plans, contrary to the actual reality. The construction work will thus involve hill cutting which may cause potential environmental damages leading to landslides. 3. The construction work on this sloppy gradient appears to be allegedly illegitimate. We are in the process of consulting experts in this field for further inputs before we take further steps. Though the work has been put to a temporary halt by the CCP, the work may commence anytime as we have been given to understand that the builder has the tacit support of some Corporators in the CCP. We are marking a copy of this letter to the Honorable Panaji MLA and Leader of the Opposition Shri Manohar Parrikar and to the Deputy Mayor Shri Yatin Parekh for their scrutiny and necessary action. Yours sincerely Sandeep Heble Representative of residents of St. Inez St. Inez, Panaji-Goa
