Code modified in 1966 by what is known as Varela code. The adaptation in 1966 
was 
worked out under the direction of  a Minister of Justice of the Salazar regime, 
João 
de Matos Antunes Varela (1919-2005) who considered himself a true republican. 
Following his PhD in law at Coimbra University he had been professor of law at 
various Portuguese universities, and also of Bahia  in Brasil and in Macau.

These inputs may help the GRNetters to view critically and cease being 
mytically 
enchanted by the facets of colonial law prevailing in Goa!
