What happened to the other two souls? Did they end up in purgatório?

++ Filthy streets
++ Poorly maintained beaches
++ Non-existent traffic regulations
++ Overpriced

Americans generally don't go all the way to Goa (why would they?) - there are
plenty of awesome beaches in Florida, Hawaii and in the Caribbeans - and an
average hotel here costs less than the price of a rotten hotel in Goa.

I don't know anybody who claims that Goa is beautiful anymore and don't blame
the government for all the ills. There is probably no money to clean the place
or its all gobbled down by corrupt people ... and then, who pays taxes anymore?

Local businesses pay diddly-squat.

For example, I spent 6 days in Goa where we mostly ate our meals at Goan
restaurants - usually along the beach belt. Not one restaurant was willing to
accept my US issued credit cards or debit cards - even though the checks were
not small money.

The reason?

Of course, they don't need to show their sales and income - and therefore pay
no taxes!

[Goanet] RTI REVEALS 71 TOURISTS DIED AT CANACONA OVER LAST DECADE

2015-09-26 Thread Aires Rodrigues
A record number of 71 tourists were reported dead at Canacona in South Goa
over the last decade. This has been revealed in the information obtained
 under the Right to Information Act.

In an attempt to find out how safe a tourist destination Goa has been,
  information was sought from the Director General of Police on details of
all Indian and foreign tourists reported dead in Goa over the last decade.

Quepem Sub-Divisional Officer Sammy Tavares has informed that no deaths of
tourists were reported within the jurisdiction of Quepem, Curchorem and
Sanguem Police stations but that within the jurisdiction of Canacona Police
station 71 tourists died over the last ten years of which 38 were
foreigners while 31 were Indian tourists.

Of the 38 foreigners dead 7 were killed in road accidents, 5 due to
drowning, 2 suicides and 24 natural deaths of which 8 were under the age of
50 which includes 22 year old Finnish National Felix Dahl whose mother has
been alleging that her son was murdered at Canacona.

Of the 33 Indian Tourists reported dead at Canacona, 9 were killed in road
accidents, 19 due to drowning, 1 suicide and 4 natural deaths.

While we await the details from other Police Stations across Goa, the
Canacona figures are a clear indicator that Goa is a very unsafe
destination for tourists.

The Goa Government must reflect on this grim reality especially on World
Tourism day being observed on September 27th.

Due to lack of foresight by successive governments Goa has today become a
drug, gambling, prostitution and crime haven.
