I must salute u for the fine job on the subject article. I do concur in full your views, very meticulously expressed, as I have gone through the same as u did, having seen both the sides of the coin (Portuguese era and thereafter). Frankly speaking, I have been thinking why not all such like minds as yours come together and form a full force to give Goa exactly what it rightfully needs. Accountability must be the key. We need people of honesty and integrity and above all devoted with courage and determination to march forward withstanding all the odds that come on the way. Such an organization must be supported by the true sons of the soil in Goa and abroad with all their strength in terms of vision, intellect, finance, capabilities etc etc WE must have the powerful force with a strong electorate convincing power and a strong benevolent Leader to lead. Who can lead us? It is a pity that straight forward and upright personalities do not stand to gain or win over the Mafia. It is high time that all clean like minds be drawn from each and every NGO or Party like yours to build an Unique Part with a difference under one banner and start the herculean task to WIN WIN nothing but WIN to develop one above Singapore. Why not? Who say we cannot do it? A well wisher and believer of Goa of our Dreams. Wilson Coelho

Well done. Keep it up Floriano. If only some more Goans would give you a chance and vote for your party! I would if I could... I note that Wendell Rodricks has been writing a lot about the Comunidades violation problem as well. Well done. The truth will prevail and we do need to talk about these things because ultimately if we Goans do not complain who will? Best wishes Paulo. Subject: Response to Arun Sinha's article : Goa of Our Dreams Living Within a China Wall Dear Mr. Arun Sinha, Today, when I opened the NT, I took my time to go through your write-up twice over which made up my mind to respond to this piece, as I normally do, when I either like what you have to say or do not like it. In this case it was both. You say Central government investments in infrastructure and quantum growth in mining, industry and tourism and the satellite enterprises contributed significantly to the high indices of income, literacy and health that Goa today is famous for. I say that what you must realize is that the Central Government has drained Goa's income to the tune of hundreds of thousands of crores and has handed out a pittance for the maintenance of Goa. If onlly one half quarter of the same was used on Goa, without it lining the pockets of the mine owners and dirty politicians, Goa would be paved with 24 carat gold. The Portuguese had done the same but they had given Goa the 'Law and Order' and had instilled in the psyche of Goans a thing or two about being 'humane' and 'responsible' The Portuguese had, in all those 450 years of rule, respected Goa's unique and indegenous 'Agro-Institutions' called the COMUNIDADES. But the Indian take-over took all that away in just one tenth of that time and instead brought in the pestilence that we see prevailing in Goa, more specifically what you see from your office window, today. Sincerely, Floriano goasuraj
