The eight grade student, daughter of Seby and Benny Fernandes, has been an outstanding talent and has won many awards in different singing competitions conducted by her school, singing songs in Hindi and English. “The Konkani hymn singing competition was the first time I sang in Konkani language,” said Sanchia, whose parents hail from the Indian state of Goa. Sanchia who is also good at dancing and painting, recently won the first prize in the Qafco Flower and Vegetable competition. Motivated by the first prize at the Konkani Hymn Singing Competition, the parents of the child sensation have decided to enrol her for music classes and also send for voice training. “We are enrolling her for music classes and at a later stage we intend to send her for voice training,” said Seby. “I wish to thank Almighty, my parents and elder sister (Blinsia) for constantly encouraging me,” said Sanchia, whose talent was first noticed by two Goan community members — Paul Fernandes and Mathew Estrocio — when she rendered a song at a private party one year back. The duo took upon them to promote Sanchia and she gave her first public performance at the Open Forum of Doha Goans Sports Club held a few months back in Doha, singing a Hindi song. The Peninsula
