This sounds vaguely like the old nanny's ploy of hushing cranky infants: "Be
quiet or the boogieman will get you"! It is natural for an emulation process
to begin with easier-to-implement elements (like architecture, and
construction) and hopefully move gradually towards more difficult systemic
features in the inherent search for "progress". Besides it may not be
necessary to limit ourselves to a single model (such as "Singapore") if we
know in advance that 'total emulation' is going to be too much of a stretch.
In the whole world there are an estimated 500 settlements of over 1 million
population that roughly match Goa's number of 1.4 million. Pick and choose
among these and synthesise a "model" (or two) which is attainable in Goa
over a reasonable span of time. Then try to honestly realise the goal in the
face of the inevitable obstacles. Of course, all this is easier said than
done.Parenthetically, the one element of Singapore which I was hoping would
be highlighted in the post as worth emulating is its multi-airport system.
Everyone knows about world-famous Changi but did you know that in an area
one-fifth of Goa's it has 8 (eight) other airports half of which are
military airbases? And we have problems with Dabolim and Mopa as civilian
airports? Come on. Anyway, dont get put off easily by extreme arguments.

RESPONSE: I have lived in Singapore for 7 Years and also in Saudi
Arabia for & Years.

Both places have nice shopping malls. I think Saudi Justice would be
better suited to Goa - chop off the hand that steals !

Goan pols seem to have been seduced by visions of
Singapore if we are to go by their utterances about
transforming Goa into Singapore. The vertically
focused Dayanand-bab wants to turn the whole of
Goa into Singapore. Joaquim-bab is more modest.
He only wants to turn Cuncolim into Singapore.

These remarkable dreams deserve the support of the
Goan people provided they are implemented in toto.
I mean, why stop with the Singaporean skyline, Changi
airport, the roads and the malls? Let us also import
the Singaporean justice system, in particular its stiff
anti-corruption prescriptions and consequences.

I propose we have a little chat with Narvekar-bab and
Alemao-bab, with their respective proctologists in tow,
and lay before them an estimate of the length & diameter
of bamboo their sphincter may have to share space with
under Goa's Singapore-inspired regime of justice.

Warm regards,
