Michael, This is like comparing mangoes and cashews (oops!)

The kaxtti (except in a work situation like fishing or farming) was
probably more of an undergarment, not the equivalent of a pant.

Like true Goans with a hybrid heritage, we should be proud of the
kashti. If there's anything to rue it's the fact that nobody seems to
be making kashtis anymore. Not even in Goa. FN

[Goanet] Re- Goanet - anti-Portuguese resolution passed by group in Panjim

2010-11-26 Thread Vivian A. DSouza
Bravo !

While this group is busy passing resolutions, why not pass resolutions banning
the English language, English signage, English used in Government offices etc.
English used in Parliament,  and change all English names including street
names, and town names still in use all over India.

response:

I believe that the Desh Premis want to revert - in the first instance
- back to 1510 i.e. the year Portugal defeated Adil Shah

That also means the following in addition to what Vivian has so
succinctly stated (above):

1: Overturn the Portuguese ban (by decree) on Sati
2: Revert back to the days when the Caste System was officially accepted.
3: Abolish the Westminster system of Government (not that it is
significantly better than the dadagiri which existed pre-1510)
4: Ban the Railways, Buses, Bicycles, Planes, Cars, Radio, TV, Modern
Medicine hospitals - all of which are 'foreign interventions into
Goa'. (Though one could do a bit of revisionism and claim that all of
the above were actually invented in Benaulim or Moira)
5: Reintroduce the Devadasi system
6: Ban cashew, cricket and colacos ( esp those who changed from
"citizenship" from that of Bijapur to that of Portugal.)

Oh add to that:

stop eating chillies, chikoos, pineapple, cashew nuts, potatoes and myriad
other
fruits introduced by the Portuguese. Ditto to feni drinkers among the
Portuguese-haters - drink instead the hooch produced by bootleggers of Mumbai.
