Like Dan, I too attended with my family. Meant to write about it and was
going to go about it but Dan fore stole me. ;-)

I felt the play was fine. The social messages were strong. Anti caste, Anti
corruption and very much in tune with the scenario of today where
politicians mislead the masses and are re-elected time again and yet again
even though in truth they are unworthy. The social scenario where the feudal
system is crumbling and the social order is changing was well depicted. I
also felt that the audience was more restrained (as befitting the audience
of an English play and upper middle class pretensions as in we are not
amused) unlike a lively Konkani teatro audience which claps, cat calls,
whistles, asks for encores and so on.

Tomazinho deserves kudos for the fine work he has done. The lead ladies, as
Dan says, were superb. The sets were great and the lighting did not leave
any thing to complain about. Intentionally or not, the pig joke suited the
present day's barrao's line of thinking (U know who I mean :-0 ) The
comedian Santan who play the role of a deaf person was great and so was the
bhatkar. On the whole the cast did very well and ought to be congratulated.

Kala Mogi should keep up the good work and should be encouraged.

Then there was the usual critic or two who found fault with the accent and
the diction. But then this is India and as long as what was presented was
understandable, and in good Indian English, I personally find nothing wrong
at all. If Indian English is good enough for International call centres,
then what is the problem. If Canada can have a Canadian English and
Australia Australian English, Scotland and Ireland their own brand of
English, then why not Indian English?

Kala Mogi, Tomazinho and Irene, We look forward to seeing some more shows.

Cheers

Re: [Goanet] : United We Stand

2008-08-03 Thread JOHN MONTEIRO
Thank you Melinda

  WELL SAID !!

Occasionally, we hear a voice in the wilderness, and with your 'honeyed plea
tone, you have empowered more people than some of the rages rants we are
obliged to digest daily on this forum.

There are many, many posters on this forum who after one or two posts decide
never to contribute again, because they ARE mentally scarred feel torn apart
by some the vicious less productive posters on this forum. I have no idea why
they do it. Must be having a bad time, bad life or are just bad,
!!

I remember once reading on this forum that we ought to have TWO separate
identities (Goanet split into two) on this forum. I did not agree at the time,
as I felt everyone, no matter who they were had an equal right to express
themselves on Goanet, but now I feel that I may have been to quick to judge
this, perhaps we do need TWO Goanets, one for the intellectual frustrated and
one for the rest of us.

We need to have EVERYONE (no matter what race, creed or colour) who has Goan
interests in their heart, come to this forum and express it. But on ONE GOANET,
not two was what I had thought at the time.

Some posters may find their contributions are not of interest to others (how
do they know this if they dont try, because they feel threatened by the very
small minority who sit in the front of the class demean, denegrate are
always the first to put up their hands in the Goanet Classroom), so very little
is posted by the majority, in case they are ridiculed by the bullies, so they
do not post, this is wrong!!! SO WRONG

This forum is not 'just for the intellectual nor for the drama queens', (its
difficult sometimes to differentiate between them), nor for the politics only
either, (though politics IS important does play a large part in all our
lives), but its about the common man / woman. It's about getting YOUR FEELINGS
on this forum. Everyone who reads here ought to contribute SOMETHING.

You will be surprised how many people will find a thread that they can get
into, if you will only contribute. No matter how small the subject, how distant
it may be, or whatever. We have had people complaining discussing BUS
CONDUCTORS ... now you would think WHAT ON EARTH HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH GOA.

It turned out it had much to do with ATTITUDES, how women were treated, how
girls older females were abused on buses etc. This has much to do with REAL
LIVES,

WHAT WHO is GOANET for? Its for everyone, but perhaps its now got a little
too big (for some) of its contributors boots, and maybe we ought to divide, so
that we CAN conquer sure sounds awful but I have to agree with
Melinda you, there are some on this forum who have their (vile hate-filled)
agendas do go against the grain, this is not to say that some posters are
free to express themselves without comment from others, this is 'normal human
behaviour'.

There are many who may disagree with what you or I (or anyone else) has to
say, but there are the few who spoil it for the majority. Who are these people
that really feel that Goanet is for EVERYONE would like to say express
their inner most feelings without being harranged or habitually spat it for
saying what they feel. Yes, its all of us, we WANT advice, we want to give
advice, we WANT to express without being vilified, we ALL want to be part of
saving Goa, from destruction by all sorts of people who have alternative
agendas of their own.

There are supporters of all sides on this forum. Many who do not live in Goa
are just as concerned, but unable to do anything physically, nor partake in
events in Goa. This does not mean these people (99% of Goan or PIO origin)
are any less important, just that they feel powerless but still HAVE AN
INTEREST IN ALL THINGS GOAN. Or they would not contribute towards this forum.

We have some who prefer to nit-pick on the smallest typo, or some who have
had a bad day, but know they can feel at home by shouting (cyber-space
style) at other Goans, knowing they will be understood..,
perhaps that is how they feel, Goans having a go at other Goans... but
loving them anyway as you do with family.

But restraint is needed sometimes could be a better position to be in, the
moral high ground most Goans feel on certain subjects (religion, politics etc)
perhaps ought to be expressed on Goanet II, leaving the common 'plebs' at
Goanet, or we will find that United we fall, but maybe Divided here in
cyberspace we will Stand..

I really dont know the answer Melinda, its a trial, just as life is, but
sometimes we have to put up with a lot, to get a little. And a little is
better than nothing. And Goanet is everything!

Maybe the moderators the owners of this forum could come up with a web page
we can choose ... either .. Goanet (for
