Re: [Goanet] Goa's so called Freedom fighters & special status for Goa *
Dear Goans, I believe Soter has held a mirror in front of each Goan's face and the reflection is not worth looking at, terrible. On the whole Soter may not be all that wrong. "Major khuim xhastiram sangta ani pol'lan agta" Perhaps, hi'ch zaun assa ami Goenkaranchi goth ??? A zillion dollar question, indeed. Where are the initiatives started by Goans? We do not need 'prostitutes' from outside to derail anything, we have enough goans of Save Goa fame. Comment: Who are the thorough bred Goans with Goan blood running in their veins? Sorry to be so blunt, but can Goans in Goa, I repeat Goans in Goa, decide anything besides socialising over booze? The problem is that Goans think that they are the most superior race in India and know it all. That is why they are in such a pathetic state of desperation. -Soter

Not actually. But it must be remembered that any derailment that will take place of what Goans propose will be credited to the 'prostitutes' from outside who are well ensconced in the psyche of Goans to the extent that they are feeling GOOD. If at all anything should be decided for Goa, it should be by true thoroughbred Goans and who have the Goan blood running in their veins. Comment: I think it is for those who keep advocating for special status that need to spell out exactly what they mean. I have not raised the bogey of 'Special Status'. In fact there was an initiative taken by us in 2008 to develop an understanding about 'Special Status for Goa' . As usual it was immediately hijacked by an opportunistic politician. We then had some goans running around for signatures to be presented by this politician in Delhi. Who knows what happened? We are not in the habit of imposing our ideas on others. We have a culture of developing an understanding through wider consultations. Since goans do not have the culture of sittting down to discuss and developing an understanding, they run after something that is thrown to them and get exploited. If there are sincere, non-political party biased goans who would like to discuss the issue and arrive at an understanding we are always open. -Soter

Hi Soter Can you (time permitting) state what you believe Special Status should entail. This will give readers an idea, perhaps a blueprint to consider. George
Re: [Goanet] Goa's so called Freedom fighters & special status for Goa
Forget the Freedom Fighters who are receiving dole. They are reduced to beggars before the government in liberated Goa. Goa can only count on those freedom fighters who have not been lured by the government's dole. They are the true freedom fighters but hardly a few are remaining. As for Special Status for Goa, i personally do not think that Goans know what they are aksing for. Politicians were quick to ask for special economic status. Some industrialists will ask for special industrial status. So Goans must confirm what is meant by 'Special Status' and not blindly jump on the bandwagon only to realise that some vested interests have benefited. It should not turn out like the agitation to demand Konkani as official language and the last hour claim it must be only in the devanagiri script. Those who used Roman script Konkani and who selled the ranks at the agitations were fooled. There are enough vultures around to capitalise on any issue that can give them political mileage and power. -Soter
