Re: [Goanet] Happy Diwali

2010-11-05 Thread Frederick Noronha
Why, of course, the institute's goal is to spread good wishes at times
like Ganesh and Diwali, and probably Christmas too. Also football
matches. :-)

Just joking, of course!

You can find out more about Instituto Camoes here:

http://www.instituto-camoes.pt/accao-do-instituto-camoes-no-ambito-da-cultura/p%C3%A1gina-2.html

Or

http://www.instituto-camoes.pt/

This is their page on the Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instituto_Camões

and here's one link to their Goa centre:
http://www.instituto-camoes.pt/centros-de-lingua-portuguesa-asia/centro-de-lingua-portuguesa-em-goa.html

The Center for Portuguese Language - Instituto Camões (CLP-IC) of Goa
was inaugurated on June 10, 2000. The CLP-IC Goa aims primarily to
promote the Portuguese language and culture through: training of
teachers and trainers, organization of workshops, reading and writing,
for teachers of Portuguese, creating courses Portuguese; operation of
a library.

My Firefox/Flock plugins automatically translate their Portuguese
pages into English for me. Regards, FN

PS: I wish institutions like this could do more to create and build
Portuguese translation skills in Goa itself. We need it quite badly.

Balbir Singh-ji,

A Very Happy Diwali to you and your family too. BTW our paper on "Using
Systems Engineering Principles to Win The Hockey World Cup and the Olympic
Gold Medal for India" by Balbir Singh, Carmo D'Cruz, Muzzaffar Shaikh and
Ashok Pandit has been accepted for presentation at the American Society for
Engineering Education (ASEE) National Conference in Hawaii in June (24-27)
2006. I think Hawaii is a relatively safe place to discuss this paper - Its
sufficiently far away from Pakistan, Europe - we only need to be careful
about the Aussies and Kiwis.

Also my trip to India in Dec is getting firmed up - I wil be in Pune for a
meeting on Dec 10, in Goa from Dec 11-21, in Bombay from Dec 21-Jan 5 (For
the PAN IIT Conf at IIT Bombay Dec 22-25 - where we will be presenting the
above paper to guys like Jack Welch (former Chairman of GE - he was a
scrappy football player in his youth and told me he is really looking
forward to our paper) and other Indian Billionaires like Sabeer Bhatia of
Hotmail - he played hockey for BITS Pilani and Rajasthan, Narayanamurthy of
InfoSys, Victor Menezes formerly of Citibank, etc. It will be great if you
can join me in Goa and Bombay - let me know - we can also go on a yatra to
Bandra to promote your book - Hockey-crazy Bandra is where the hockey
community considers you to be a God of Hockey ! I will also show you the
famous Middle-Ground at St. Stanislaus where all your proteges - myself,
Cedric Pereira, Francis D'Mello, Marcellus Gomes, etc. first played their
hockey - Bandra is to Maharashtra what Sansarpur is to Punjab - a breeding
ground for hockey talent. We can also do a Puja - complete with Langar and
Guru-ji Ka Prasad, etc. on the middle-ground so that many more hockey
players are inspired by you, they first learn their hockey and rise to great
heights from the Middle-Ground at St.Stanislaus High School. We can also
have a mass on that ocassion in the adjacent church. I know of your famed
respect for all religions - including the incident in Kuala Lumpur in 1975
where you accompanied Aslam Sher Khan to the mosque on the day before the
victorius World Cup Finals and psyched out the entire Pakistani team by
your actions. May be you can conduct brief clinics on the middle ground too.
Maybe your 1948 London Olympics teammate goalkeeper Leo Pinto who lives
nearby will join us at these clinics. There is an Inter-Decade Stanislite
Hockey Tournament during those days in which I plan to participate. WAHE
GURU, SAT SRI AKAL, JO BHOLE SO NIHAL - we can teach them a little Punjabi
too along with their hockey - so that the Bombay players of the future do
not just socialize with the Punjabi players only for the evening beers and
drinking parties in Patiala or Bangalore. In Goa, I was planning to conduct
two camps - one in North Goa where Cedric Pereira is from and one in South
Goa where I am from. Maybe your proteges Vece Paes and John Correia will
join us in Goa.

So what is the status of your book "The Golden Yard Stick" on objective
training techniques for hockey - when is it going to be released ? How can
I get excerpts on the training, formations and positional play and
strategies. I already have the goalkeeping chapter. I may need to refer to
this in the next couple of weeks to complete our paper.

So let me know what you itenerary in India is like and we can make plans.

Best Regards,

Carmo
