GRANTS TO TACKLE STRAY CATTLE MENACE: The government has sanctioned an
amount of Rs.13.94 lakh for construction of cattle pounds in six municipal
council areas to supplement the efforts of the Corporation of the City of
Panaji to clear roads from the menace of stray cattle. (H)

RENUKA UNVEILS ATHITI DEVO BHAVO: Minister of State for Tourism Renuka
Chowdhury announced major initiative "Athiti Devo Bhavo', aimed at providing
the inbound tourist a sense of being welcomed to the country. The campaign
will provide training and orientation to taxi drivers, guides, immigration
officers, tourism police and other personnel directly interacting with the
tourist. The campaign will be rolled out in a phased manner over a period of
three years. In the first phase, Goa, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Aurangabad

TODDY TAPPER FOUND DEAD: A 48-year-old man from Natangim-Sadolxem was found
dead on Sunday in River Talpona, after he had gone to tap toddy in the

FLAT BURGLED IN PANAJI: Unidentified culprits burgled a flat at
Kundaikarnagar in Panaji, belonging to one Bruno Sanfrancisco. The theft
came to light on January 21 when the maidservant had gone to carry out the
weekly cleaning, since the flat remains closed as Sanfrancisco is learnt to

case against one Ganesh Palyekar of Charpora, for playing loud music without

PALOLEM LOCAL ASSAULTED: A resident of Palolem-Canacona was beaten up three
persons after he objected their causing disturbance outside his residence on
January 22 night. Anthony Mascarenhas was assaulted with a knife. (H)

MOTORCYCLE STOLEN: Mr Cliff D'Silva from Aldona lodged a complaint with the
Mapusa police stating that his Pulsar motorcycle which was parked in an open
