GRANTS TO TACKLE STRAY CATTLE MENACE: The government has sanctioned an
amount of Rs.13.94 lakh for construction of cattle pounds in six municipal
council areas to supplement the efforts of the Corporation of the City of
Panaji to clear roads from the menace of stray cattle. (H)
COPS MADE SCAPEGOATS? If anything the police's inability to take action
against the party (rave) at St Anthony's Praia Vaddo in Anjuna on Sunday
morning appears to be a clear indicator of the nexus that exists between

RELIEF GIVEN TO TSUNAMI-HIT AREAS: A two-member team of officials on January

COLVA PANCHAYAT OPPOSES PDA TAG: The villagers of 18 panchayats from Salcete
taluka have not given up their fight to demand withdrawal of the government

RAVE PSYCHEDELIA: It was dark and moonless in Anjuna at 1.15 am on 23
January. Standing on the cliffs and looking out to sea was an eerie
experience with the mist rolling gently above the water. The only element
that spoilt the moment was the steady throb of the bass accompanied by
electronic sounds that ravers call music, emanating from nearby. The party

MGP STRUGGLING FOR ITS EXISTENCE: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party in the
State is today fighting a battle for its existence and appears that only a
miracle can save it from staggering. The party, which ruled Goa for nearly
17 consecutive years soon after Liberation and which created a certain image
in terms of the Bahujan Samaj, was now struggling to remain a crucial player

RENUKA UNVEILS ATHITI DEVO BHAVO: Minister of State for Tourism Renuka
Chowdhury announced major initiative "Athiti Devo Bhavo', aimed at providing
the inbound tourist a sense of being welcomed to the country. The campaign
will provide training and orientation to taxi drivers, guides, immigration
officers, tourism police and other personnel directly interacting with the
tourist. The campaign will be rolled out in a phased manner over a period of
three years. In the first phase, Goa, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Aurangabad

TODDY TAPPER FOUND DEAD: A 48-year-old man from Natangim-Sadolxem was found
dead on Sunday in River Talpona, after he had gone to tap toddy in the
morning. Ramakant Pandu Bhandari had been employed to tap toddy at Natangim.

MAN HELD: The Maina-Curtorim police have registered a case against one Jose
Borges, a resident of Nuvem, for allegedly attempting to outrage the modesty
of a woman at Nuvem on December 22. (GT)
FLAT BURGLED IN PANAJI: Unidentified culprits burgled a flat at
Kundaikarnagar in Panaji, belonging to one Bruno Sanfrancisco. The theft
came to light on January 21 when the maidservant had gone to carry out the
weekly cleaning, since the flat remains closed as Sanfrancisco is learnt to
be working in the Gulf. (GT)
BOOKED FOR PLAYING LOUD MUSIC: The Anjuna police on Wednesday registered a
case against one Ganesh Palyekar of Charpora, for playing loud music without
obtaining permission from the competent authority. (GT)
PALOLEM LOCAL ASSAULTED: A resident of Palolem-Canacona was beaten up three
persons after he objected their causing disturbance outside his residence on
January 22 night. Anthony Mascarenhas was assaulted with a knife. (H)
MOTORCYCLE STOLEN: Mr Cliff D'Silva from Aldona lodged a complaint with the
Mapusa police stating that his Pulsar motorcycle which was parked in an open
place near a petrol pump (in Mapusa) was stolen. (NT)
WITHOUT BASIC FACILITIES FOR GENERATIONS: Residents of Cazugoto have spent
their lives for generations without basic facilities. The situation
continues to remain the same till date. Cazugoto is a hamlet by itself
situated on a hilltop on the borders of Cavrem Pirla and Barcem and is yet
to be provided with road, proper water, toilet or even education
facilities.The
