  Hello Cin,

Are you using the Mobile Backend starter application here:
https://developers.google.com/cloud/samples/mbs/?

That example application is intended for developers building backend
services for Android applications. If you need a basic Hello World App
Engine application, try this app:
https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/java/gettingstarted/introduction

Hello,

Continue on to step 4 of the tutorial, you'll see a guide to generate the
WSDL file using wsgen. Also, note that wsgen is not shipped with the App
Engine SDK; it's included within the JDK package downloadable from Oracle.

Is this for your Google Apps account, or more specifically your App Engine
account within Google Apps?

For Google Apps, you can create a new user within Apps then invite an user
by emailing them a link. See
http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=33310 .

For App Engine, you can invite an user by going through the administration
console and emailing an invite to join as a developer. See
https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/adminconsole/

As timh stated, it's impossible to state the costs without further
information and a much more detailed plan of what you're processing. But
you're definitely not going to be able to host many users on the free tier.

Instead of using Matlab directly, consider using NumPy and/or SciPy if
possible. Matlab is written in C, so you can't host it on App Engine
directly; you'd have to host it within a Compute Engine machine or using
another external service.

[google-appengine] Re: GAE/J - Completely lost on migrating from Files API to GCS Client Library

I think it also contradicts with AppEngine in the sense that it complicates
things, whereas AppEngine is for simplifying stuff (scalability,
maintenance, development etc.)

I've also took a quick look at the state of GCS integration and I've
decided to wait until the integration matures (I'm not saying it isn't
mature now, I will just wait until all problems/issues are solved /
improved)

[ERROR ] Unable to download kind stats for all-kinds downloa
[ERROR ] Kind stats are generated periodically by the appser
[ERROR ] Kind stats are not available on dev_appserver.

i searched a little, and i found that is because the app doesnt have de

[google-appengine] Updating an existing child entity causes it to be deleted?

2013-07-22 Thread Jack Rief
Using the Datastore viewer, I see my child entity right after it is created
via my application. Next, the user updates a couple fields on the child
entity and saves it. However the Datastore viewer no longer "sees" the
entity! I see no processing or transaction errors in the logs.I do see
the parent's child collection field appears to still contain the child ala:

[datastore_types.Key.from_path(u'Parent', u'1527525075', u'Child',
5799236641751040L, _app=u's~myapp')]

In fact, the user still sees the relationship in the application! But...
 When I redeploy a newer version of the app, or the memcache is cleared
(and the browser is closed) even the parent's child collection field is
reset to it's previous value.

So, the child entity is clearly hanging out in memory, but I don't
understand why it doesn't appear in the database?

BTW, this functionality used to work prior to upgrading from the appengine
SDK from 1.7.5 to 1.8.1.1, and now 1.8.2. I use Java with JDO for
persistence.

This is the definition for the child collection in the parent class:

  @Persistent(dependentElement="true")
  private Set children;

This is the definition of the child:
@PersistenceCapable(identityType=IdentityType.APPLICATION,
detachable="true")
public class Child implements Serializable, Comparable
{

  @PrimaryKey
  @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY)
  private Key key;

The children are detached for the update processing by the user. I ensure
the parent has the new child in it's collection. I then save the child,
then the parent.

This is quite perplexing and driving me crazy as this all used to work!
Does anyone have any ideas?

[google-appengine] GAE/J - Completely lost on migrating from Files API to GCS Client Library

2013-07-22 Thread Gilberto Torrezan Filho
Hi everyone,

I'm very confused about what do I have to do to migrate from the now
deprecated Files API to GCS Client Library. Before anything I'd like to express
my complete dissatisfaction with the fact that I have to manage a second
service from now on just to write files on the server. Anyway, let's stick
to the problem:

I have this piece of code which is working very well for years:

FileService fileService = FileServiceFactory.getFileService();
AppEngineFile file = fileService.createNewBlobFile("text/plain");
FileWriteChannel writeChannel = fileService.openWriteChannel(file, true);
Writer writer = Channels.newWriter(writeChannel, "UTF8");
//write my file
writeChannel.closeFinally();
BlobKey blobKey = fileService.getBlobKey(file);
//I got my BlobKey and I'm happy

But FileService is now deprecated. When I try to use the GCS client library
(after discovering that the library isn't part of the GAE SDK just to make
me even more "happy"), I got this situation:

GcsService gcsService = GcsServiceFactory.createGcsService(); //no problems
GcsFilename gcsFileName = new GcsFilename(bucketName, objectName); //I have
to create this object to create the file below
gcsService.createOrReplace(gcsFileName, gcsFileOptions); //I really miss
the day when file.createNewFile(); was sufficient

The problem is the second line. As it seems now I have to provide a file
name. Ok, I can gerente a random one, just to keep the API satisfied. Now
the problem is the "bucket name". I don't even know what it means. I just
want to save a file.

After searching a bit I found that it is something related to the Google
Cloud Storage service. Ok, let's signup another service, accept another
terms, and so on (... and I just want to save a file). When logging on the
Cloud
Console , I can see my App Engine
project, with the following options: App Engine (which links to the App
Engine Dashboard ), BigQuery (not
using) and Cloud Datastore (which links to a view of my stored entities).
No Cloud Storage. Following this activation
guide,

I have to create another project (!!!).

So no Cloud Storage dashboard or console anywhere, nowhere to configure or
get that "bucket name" and no, I'm not going to drop my 2-years project to
create another one just to enable file writing.

What do I have to do to just-save-a-file on the server? Why is that so hard?

Thank you.

(Sorry for the text but I'm really upset with this situation)
