It appears that the google-auth default credentials <https://google-auth.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user-guide.html#> will not work for 2nd generation standard environments, at least not for Python at the moment, as it requires the app identity/user API.
Is there a plan for getting default app engine credentials to work in another way? Or is the recommendation to set the GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS env var to point to the service account file manually?
