Re: [google-appengine] Re: paid email quota

2013-04-09 Thread info
Hi Takashi,

I've got the same problem with my application: *elicitmailer*

A weekly budget has been set, although I'm not sure if Google is able to
proces this automatically. Does this mean I have to keep paying manually
every week?

Thanks in advanced,

Luuk Barten

[google-appengine] Block Certain User Agent

2014-12-30 Thread info
A certain spambot makes periodic requests to my app in 10-minute intervals
at 20/requests each time. Throughout the course of the day, this amounts
to almost 3,000 requests and has been tremendously straining my instance
hours resources. The user agent of the bot is:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0"

This bot makes requests that appear to be normal user requests and each
time, the IP address varies - so I cannot blacklist by IP. I am currently
returning a 503 access denied server error but the bot continues to make
the requests on schedule, 20 at a time. Can I block http requests by user
agent rather than IP? Please help, I cannot continue the project while
servicing up to 3,000 invalid requests to single bot. Thank you.

[google-appengine] Exteremly high average latencies?

2012-04-06 Thread Chalklink Info
Hello all

I don't know what happened to my last post, but I'm re-posting this again
here since there's no direct client support provided by Google App Engine
(at least none that I'm aware of).

We've been experiencing since this morning *extremely* high latency
averages, it's averaging 1500-2000ms now, at some point it exceeded
28000ms! We have not made any changes at all recently, incoming traffic has
certainly not significantly increased, either. (as of now, it's about 1-2
requests per second).

Is anyone else experiencing similar delay issues?

Thanks

[google-appengine] Downtime

2012-04-08 Thread Chalklink Info
Hello all -

Am I the only who is extremely shocked to find out that once your daily
quota has been exceeded you should brace yourself for hours of downtime
because billing is not automated ?

It's very disappointing. GAE is good at automating suspending websites, but
fails to automate billing?

[google-appengine] New iPhone application launched on GAE!

2009-04-11 Thread Pindropper Info

I just wanted to give some kudos to the whole GAE team. I was able to
create the order processing backend on GAE in under a month for my
iPhone app: http://www.pindropper.com";>PicCard

The app lets you select a picture and recipient from you iPhone, and
send a printed postcard to them. Without GAE, I would have had to run
my own servers and worry about uptime. So far, the users have been
fantastically happy with the performance/availability.

Thanks again to everyone who helped get this working and to the entire
Google App engine team!

[google-appengine] images, rotation and quality/compression

2009-05-09 Thread Pindropper Info

I am going to post this in the python group too, but I think it may be
a general engine topic.

I recently added some image rotation code (using images.rotate) I put
in a JPEG and get out a JPEG.

The image I put in is about 28k, the image I get back is 12k. Is
there any way to eliminate this degradation?

I have ONLY RUN THIS LOCALLY at this point, not on the actual app
engine runtime in production.

Thanks

Yes, it is experiencing very clear image degradation. Ill try it in
production and post back to this thread. Even if it is clean in
production, it will be worth noting in the SDK notes about the image

[google-appengine] Re: images, rotation and quality/compression

2009-05-11 Thread Pindropper Info

Ok, so in production, I dont see the same image artifacts/compression,
but there is a slight color/gamma shift. It's totally acceptable, but
again, should probably be reflected in the docs.

Specifically, it looks like the image service strips out ColorSync
profiles from rotated images.

Here are the two samples (before and after)

Original image:

http://www.pindropper.com/_Media/remote2.jpg

Rotated image:

http://www.pindropper.com/_Media/remote1.jpg

The original image has the following ColorSync profile embedded:

sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Thanks for your help!

[google-appengine] Any issues with URL fetch tonight?

2009-05-11 Thread Pindropper Info

About 2+ hours ago, our app started having issues calling out to a 3rd
party webservice using url fetch

urlfetch

  File "/base/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/
urlfetch.py", line 240, in fetch
return rpc.get_result(allow_truncated)
  File "/base/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/
urlfetch.py", line 387, in get_result
self.check_success(allow_truncated)
  File "/base/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/
urlfetch.py", line 361, in check_success
raise DownloadError(str(e))
DownloadError: ApplicationError: 5

This was working fine as recently as this AMI am not at my quota.

Anyone have any ideas?
