Yeah, I saw that option to save the $10 and did that.

No problem!

One last thing: when you're paying for Google Apps, make sure you select
the yearly billing plan, which is $50/user/year. The monthly billing plan
costs $60 a year ($5 per month).

Holy cats! How the hell did I miss that?

That's great news. With that, I don't mind having to pay $50 for google apps AT
ALL. For small apps, they essentially just cut the minimum price from $100 to
$50. That's more than reasonable, for the value I get.

Thanks for the pointer!

If you're talking about the $2.10/week minimum spend, that was removed with
patch 1.7.7. Go here for the release announcement (scroll down to *Improving

Re: [google-appengine] Free Apps Account?

2013-11-06 Thread Joshua Smith
Thanks.

So basically using GAE with a domain now costs $150/year. $100 for the minimum
billing-enabled, and $50 for the minimum google apps account.

(Plus the $4 I have to pay godaddy for the domain itself)

That's kinda steep for little apps.

Sigh.

Sorry, no freebie Google Apps accounts anymore :-(

What you can do is open up a paid Google Apps account, and then claim the
$50 App Engine credit:
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/google-appengine/pVZfdeky-ow/AcK0bcHdv-cJ(i.e.
you'll get $50 of App Engine services for "free").

[google-appengine] Free Apps Account?

2013-11-05 Thread Joshua Smith
I tried to follow the instructions I found for signing up for a free google
apps account so that I could associate a new domain with a new app I created.

I never saw any link to create a the account for free, though.

I don't need a full apps account, I just want to set up the domain.

What's the process to get this google apps account freebee-fied before my 30
day trial runs out?
