OK - figured out my server wasn't actually receiving the request, so no output in the console in Eclipse. I am up and running now, and am setup to develop my Facebook app locally on my machine, using Eclipse PyDev and the debugger!
The final piece of the setup that I stumbled on was configuring the local app engine server - dev_appserver.py.
