I've seen the announcement but can Google put forward someone who 
developers can talk with and discuss these changes. I can't understand the 
logic behind this decision which will force many developers at very short 
notice to cease using the Google Maps APIs.

Have alternative options been considered for semi-commercial developers 
such as ad-supported use of the API ? This works fine with much higher 
volumes on YouTube.

There was a time when the Maps API team would discuss all aspects of the 
API in forums or by email, those days have gone.

I'm hoping that some people within Google will see the reaction and realise 
the damage that this decision will cause to Google's reputation - see

. It's not too late for Google to change course. They should delay the 
implementation period and consider alternative such as ad-supported access 
to the API.
