And I'm pretty sure I didn't forget my password, since I use the same
that for google services... But still unable to login, and thus unable
to get access to the new invitation :(

Well, seeing as there's Spelly, that shouldn't be a problem. Spelly
auto-corrects, or, if it's not sure, red underlines a word, so you know
something's wrong.

Hi Ahsan-

You can use any robots (that are functional) by adding as participant,
but there are no robots linked to from the extensions gallery wave.
This is because we want to make several additions to the robots APIs
to make them more user-friendly first.

More info on extensions gallery in this screencast:

OpenID doesn't solve the problem, it just replaces one volatile identity
system with another. When you move OpenID providers you will still have to
move everything anyway. What would solve the problem more generically is
robust migration from one ID to another or, put differently, ability to link
IDs.

The only major beef I have with the identity scheme is that:

   * My email is trej...@gmail.com
   * My Jabber ID is trej...@gmail.com
   * My Wave ID is trej...@googlewave.com <-- WHY?!

2:15 pm

me:
Are you getting a state callback? Have you checked the Wave log to see
if the state was submitted?
2:16 pm

Andrew Davis:
Wave Log, that's where I need to to be looking, Thanks :)
2:17 pm

me:
FYI, this is useful:
http://code.google.com/apis/wave/articles/gadgetdebugging.html
2:17 pm

Vadim Gerasimov:
You are doing the submit way too early. You have to wait until the
first state callback.
2:19 pm

Andrew Davis:
cool, I'll start uncommenting all the stuff I was running first, after
I've got the simpler example running with the aid of the debugging
guide. And GREAT JOB on the preview launch, it's snappy.
2:22 pm

Vadim Gerasimov:
Try something like this to get started:
http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/107558585548952247431/wave-api-mode.xml
2:14 pm

Vadim Barsukov:
Hello! Congratulations with the launch of a new version of the Waves.
You did a great work, thank you! But my question yet about the sandbox
- there is still not working tags \n and in the methods append ()
and appenMarkup (). Sorry, that is bored with this question many
times. :)
2:17 pm

Marcel Prasetya:
We currently have a bug where if you do textView.append("\n"), it will
not append a new line. This is a bug due to String.split() behavior in
Java. I have a pending fix for this.

Have you tried textview.append("foo\n")?
2:21 pm

Vadim Barsukov:
Yes, my robot uses the append() and appendMarkup(), while all messages
are displayed in one line without newlines.
2:26 pm

Marcel Prasetya:
Hmm, I have to take a look. Can you file a bug against us, and if
possible, also include the outgoing ops (from the log), and also a
snippet of your code?
2:27 pm

Vadim Barsukov:
Well, I'll do it. Thank you. Who needs it send?
2:29 pm

me:
You can file it here: http://code.google.com/p/google-wave-resources/issues/
And attach code to the bug.
2:23 pm

Scott Hamilton:
Is the FedOne source likely to get a refresh now the preview is
running? Was there any changes between about 1month ago and the
current Preview codebase?
2:58 pm

Dan P:
Hi Scott, I touched on federation deeper down as well but we're
primarily workking to get the wavesandbox.com port open -- and that'll
include an update to FedOne to be consistent with that. Things have
been pretty hectic as we get ready to open up wave.google.com to
users, and now we're aiming to have that port open approaching the end
of October.

We do have a new draft spec for the wave conversation model (i.e. the
schema for waves) that'll go out in the next day or so, along with a
general status update not -- watch for that on the wave protocol forum
2:27 pm

Joachim Larsen:
Interesting, top posting no longer seems possible, neither with the
blue insert nor clicking on the 'root' message and choosing reply.
Anyway, I wanted to ask if you could tell us a bit more about the
differences between this dev preview 'instance' of wave and the one we
will be embarking on shortly.
2:58 pm

Dan P:
The dev preview is intended for developers to build on (e.g. the debug
menu is available in the top)

The wave.google.com instance has more introductory content in it -- to
make it easier to use for new users.

In theory, wave.google.com will be more stable than wavesanbox.com,
and it is likely that new features (and their related bugs) will
appear first on the sandbox.
2:26 pm

Scott Hamilton:
It seems like bottom, top posting...
2:25 pm

Vadim Barsukov:
Addition of new robots and gadgets in the Wave is limited now? How can
I add a robot or gadget in the Wave preview? Only in the sandbox?
2:29 pm

Marcel Prasetya:
You can add gadget and robot in the public preview instance. Here's
the instruction about adding gadget:
http://www.google.com/support/wave/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=162915
2:30 pm

me:
You can also install the "extension installer" from the extensions
gallery wave, and use that to insert installers on Waves, and share
them with people.

2:58 pm

Dan P:
If you have an extension that is ready for users and you want it
promoted, you should take a look at the design principles doc --

[Google Wave APIs] FYI: Password Reset Requests

2009-09-30 Thread pamela (Google employee)

Since Wave sandbox is on a Google Apps domain, it does not have an
automated password reset system. This means that every request for a
password reset must be manually processed by the domain adminstrator
(us).

We have received an unexpected number of requests for password resets
for Wave sandbox, and after trying to fulfill them, we have realized
that we are unable to fulfill all the reset requests.
Please request a new sandbox account if you have forgotten your
password or are unable to access your current one for whatever reason:
https://services.google.com/fb/forms/wavesignupfordev/
That form was temporarily disabled, but is back up now.

We know this is less than ideal, so thank you for your patience.

If you haven't forgotten your password, please make sure it's written
down somewhere.

Thanks!

Why not just support OpenID for accounts? That would provide the same

[Google Wave APIs] Wave Identity

2009-09-30 Thread Vince Marco

It seems that a change in the identity model for Wave could be a very
desirable thing. Emails and IMs have a very "provider-centric"
identity model. If a user changes providers, then everyone needs to
change how they reference that user. Why? They didn't change who
they were.

Wave has a provider model, which is awesome. So why not establish an
identity model that is not provider-centric. This might require a
Wave user registry to enable mapping global user identity to a
provider-specific ID. This would enable and encourage the Wave
provider market to be competitive by allowing users to move between
providers without impacting everyone referencing them.

Has this been taken into account?

Vince

[Google Wave APIs] Wave in a local corporate

2009-09-30 Thread nemeseri

Hi!

I would like to test Google Wave in our local corporate network.
Google released a prototype server and a basic terminal based text
client. When will google release the full featured Google wave web
client (written in GWT) to download? Will it happen anytime?

I think this is crutial for the wave technology. Big companys will not
set up own wave servers until there isn't a great client for this new
communication form. The google app version of google wave is not a
solution: we need to store our sensitive data in our datacenter.

What do you think, when we will be able to test the wave server with
the Google Wave Client in our very own corporate network?

Thank you,
Andras

[Google Wave APIs] 2 Identical Robots - 1 Receives JSON data and behaves properly, the other does not

2009-09-30 Thread Brant Faircloth

I worked for several hours trying to get the beginnings of a robot
running, following the Wave API (Python) tutorial. Upon accessing:

http://genbanky.appspot.com/_wave/capabilities.xml

all appeared well (wrt tutorial). Yet the robot does not "act"
appropriately when added to waves (it does nothing) and the app (at
GAE) never receives JSON data from the wavelets to which it is added.

Becoming frustrated, I created a test instance (different name) on
appengine, moved the same files over to that instance (along with a
copy of the waveapi - r13), changed the appropriate names in the
app.yaml and *.py file, and uploaded these to GAE under the test
instance.

Everything then worked as expected, and the input/output JSON data was
logged in the GAE logs (as it should be).

So, the question is, why does my original application not behave as
expected (or work at all), while a clone of this application works
correctly? Is there any way around the weirdness (i've incremented
version numbers on the original application in case I was having cache
issues)?

And, of course, anyone have a clue what the fix may be?

I'd be happy to provide whatever is needed. The app.yaml and
genbanky.py files for the original robot are below.

thanks much,
b

app.yaml
=

application: genbanky
version: 1
runtime: python
api_version: 1

handlers:
- url: /_wave/.*
  script: genbanky.py

  static_dir: assets

genbanky.py

from waveapi import events
from waveapi import model
from waveapi import robot

def OnParticipantsChanged(properties, context):
  """Invoked when any participants have been added/removed."""
  added = properties['participantsAdded']
  for p in added:
Notify(context)

def OnRobotAdded(properties, context):
  """Invoked when the robot has been added."""
  root_wavelet = context.GetRootWavelet()
  root_wavelet.CreateBlip().GetDocument().SetText("I'm alive!")

def Notify(context):
  root_wavelet = context.GetRootWavelet()
  root_wavelet.CreateBlip().GetDocument().SetText("Hi everybody!")

if __name__ == '__main__':
  myRobot = robot.Robot('genbanky',
  version='7')
  myRobot.RegisterHandler(events.WAVELET_PARTICIPANTS_CHANGED,
OnParticipantsChanged)
  myRobot.RegisterHandler(events.WAVELET_SELF_ADDED, OnRobotAdded)
  myRobot.Run()

[Google Wave APIs] I want to help make a change

2009-09-30 Thread Mark

Lars/Jens/Stephanie/Vic -

I started 21 years ago when I was 14, writing software for BBSs (in
fact I wrote software for QuickBBS (by Adam Hudson) if any of you
remember that). I now run a contracted IT company and am completely
bored with what I do. I am a developer and creator at heart and after
watching the developer preview, haven't felt so energized about
something since I was running one of the largest bulletin boards in
the state at the age of 15.

I have been planning on moving to Australia in the next year for a
change. I find it a great coincidence that you are also there. I am
planning on visiting Sydney next month to scout out a place to live.

I would love to come meet you all and even offer my services while I
am there (even if it means cleaning toilets or running errands) to
prove the value that I could provide to work with a team as talented
as you all. I want to make a change in the world, and I do see the
enormous potential of Wave to completely change the way we communicate
in every aspect of our lives. It's not 'this could be huge'...it's
'this is going to change the world'. The Vision will turn to reality,
just as Google has already proven.

We do a tremendous amount of contracted IT and I can easily see how
Wave could revolutionize corporate communication. I want to be
involved in making that happen!

PLEASE contact me ASAP so I can plan my trip. I will work around your
schedules and at the bear minimum I just want to shake your hands.

Thank you kindly, I look very forward to hearing from you!
Mark

(P.S. Sorry everyone for this public request...and I'm not sure this
will get to its intended recipients, so if ANYONE can help make sure
that happens, PLEASE FORWARD to them! - and thank YOU all!)

[Google Wave APIs] To aid executive level adoption of G.W.

2009-09-30 Thread Gabriel Silverstein

Those of us that have executive assistants who edit or otherwise proof
a lot of our work need to have the search features allow someone (in
my example an EA) search just by edits and posts of a specific user
(i.e. me), to be able to go back and "clean up" after me, and I should
have that same ability so I can just find my specific edits, not just
the waves I'm part of. This is kind of like taking "playback" to the
next level so it plays back by date or contributor, for all waves, not
just within a specific wave. Ability to search by date of posts/edits
is also helpful, because I may know when I made an edit (i.e. while at
the airport in Dallas waiting for my connection to Nashville on the
17th) but not what the original topic was that I was editing/posting
to.

As an executive I also want the ability to not only have a "clean"
copy of collaborative works, but a complete "marked up" (in Word
terms, "redlined") copy that shows all the changes from the original,
who made them and when, which is required to have for legal
documents. I think this functionality pretty much exists but I have
to be sure it truly captures all the collective/collaborative changes,
who made them and when, as it could become very relevant if a legal
dispute arose later. I therefore mention it here to be sure it was
heard in case I later forget to play more with the functionality and
make sure it's in there.

When is this forum going to be conducted through GW instead of this
boring, slow, inefficient traditional forum process?!:)

[Google Wave APIs] Expanding wave search to mirror web search feature

2009-09-30 Thread Gabriel Silverstein

It may have been added already, but to use a specific example from the
I/O demo, when Stephanie searched for "google wave" and Lars' played
with adding and removing his latest wave topic to her search by adding
and deleting the "e" in "wave", in a web search the google 'bot will
ask if Stephanie really meant "google wav" or will automatically pop
up any pages that have that, without the "e" at the end. For those of
us like Lars that might accidentally miss a letter here or there, the
wave search feature should pop up additional wave posts that include
similar spellings, like "gooogle wave" or "google wav" which would
then also allow the searcher to see a misspelling and immediately
correct it on the wave.

[Google Wave APIs] Re: Is it possible to play media in wave

2009-09-30 Thread Dagfinn Parnas

Hi,

This is not a trivial task, but it may be possible.

I would try the following
1. You should implement a gadget which contains a Flex (flash)
component.
2. The flex component can (if the user agrees) get access to the
microphone.
3. If you are lucky, you may be able to produce a byte stream of the
recording, though this may not be possible
(http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1176707/recording-from-microphone-
from-within-the-browser-using-flex-or-processing)'
4. After that the flex component has to call javascript of the gadget
(through ExternalInterface, google it) and pass the byte stream.
5. Then the javascript has to share the byte stream through the gadget
state.
Not sure if there is a size limitation here
6. Then when the stateUpdated event reaches each client (javascript of
gadget), you must pass the byte stream back into the Flex component
and play the sound here

Good luck (you're going to need it:)

[Google Wave APIs] Re: Are people still receiving invitations?

2009-09-30 Thread Augure

I think that their move to prevent power users either devs or not, to
access the most important google product about to be released, even 4
month after the presention, is not really smart, nor open source-like,
it will only get power users & dev pissed off, and prevent the buzz to
grow especially amongst casual user if there are too few early
adopters.

Plus, altough wave seems to be a great product, its functions &
principles are pretty natural and easy to adopt, so I wouldn't Be
surprised if other start-ups starts showing up with alternatives.

I hope the 100k accounts will be enough especially for those who
signed 4 month ago right after the IO keynote, otherwise they really
should send more.

[Google Wave APIs] FYI: Google Wave preview accounts

2009-09-30 Thread pamela (Google employee)

Many of you are asking regarding accounts for the preview of
wave.google.com. As mentioned before, all current developers in
wavesandbox.com will get access to wave.google.com. You will receive a
wave in your sandbox account with the title "Enable your Google Wave
account" with a one time invitation URL. The page at that URL will
prompt you to login to Google Wave with a Google account (you can use
your existing Gmail login or create a new account). This will be a one-
time use URL so use it carefully. Once you are logged into
wave.google.com, you will see a wave with the title "Invite others to
Google Wave." Use that wave to nominate other people to get Google
Wave.

These invites should arrive in your sandbox inbox over the next 24
hours or so.

[Google Wave APIs] Gadget state change event not fired

2009-09-30 Thread dLux

I've just playing around with gadgets, but it seems that the state
change event is not fired.

The initialization function is called properly, which registers the
state and the participant callbacks.
The participant change callback called properly, but the state
callback is never called. Shouldn't it be called at least once after
initialization?

Here is the code, it seems to be totally OK for me:

// Called when the gadget state is updated.
function stateUpdated() {
alert('state updated.');
redrawContent();
}

// Called when a new participant is added to the wave.
function participantsUpdated() {
alert('participants updated.');
redrawContent();
}

// Initialization function.
function init() {
if (wave && wave.isInWaveContainer()) {
wave.setStateCallback(stateUpdated);
wave.setParticipantCallback(participantsUpdated);
alert('callbacks initialized.');
}
}

gadgets.util.registerOnLoadHandler(init);

Any idea?

[Google Wave APIs] Re: No longer getting document changed event on createWavelet(participants, writeback)

Response from Douwe:

I think the problem could be that you are not explicitly adding the robot
to the participants; we recently pushed a version that checks that. I have
a pending CL to make that the default behaviour, but it might take a few
days before that hits production. Meanwhile you can try adding the robot
explicitly.

... but I'm not seeing any pictures when I look in Wave (preview or

I'm still getting hits to /_wave/profile on my AppEngine app though.

Is this bit still under construction, or have I messed up somewhere?

[Google Wave APIs] twitter-w...@appspot.com hijacked my robot

2009-09-30 Thread the1geek

How weird, for a moment twitter-w...@appspot.com (twitbot) just
hijacked my robot.

It replaced my robot appspot.com website in my Google Wave sandbox to
http:// twitter-wave.appspot.com/robot/about.

There's just no security in the sandbox!!

Did anyone experience this?

Btw i got several push contents this morning that expose all the
sandbox users profiles and activities.

Beware!!

I'm assume that those of us who are sandbox developers will get an
email which includes an invite to sign up for the new deployment. This
will hopefully include the "8 invites" to send to friends. I haven't
received anything yet, however. Feel free to post here if you get an
invite to the new server.

The title is sent with the event bundle:

produce this output:

Yes that is precisely what it means. However what you won't get is the
