Re: [GRASS-user] active fire mapping with GRASS GIS?

2020-08-20 Thread Vishal Mehta
Thanks Markus,

I also came across this and another resource, so part of my needs are met.

however, i notice that these data are derived products, where a pixel is
designated as having a fire based on the temperature anomaly. thi is the
main reason if anyone is following on the firemaps available on google maps
that we are getting huge polygons - basically the boundaries created around
any pixel with a large-ish anomaly.

is there a quick automation workflow possible where False Color
Composites of near-realtime imagery using the thermal band can be created,
which can be updated once a day at the click of a button; and then overlay
the FIRES derived datasets on top? This would allow one to visualize the
earth surface while also overlaying the derived product.

i'm imagining a workflow which automates the finding of imagery as well,
because that part of the workflow (going to the DAAC and finding the
sensors , path, row etc etc) seem as tedious as it ever was..

Best,
Vishal

Yes, you can get NRT data from here:
https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/active_fire/
- Shapefiles
- Google Earth KML
- Text Files (CSV)

This you may import (v.import) and visualize/analyse.

Best wishes,
Markus
