[GRASS-user] nviz broken under Ubuntu?

2012-03-19 Thread Giovanni Manghi
Hi all,

I just tested on a couple of machines with Ubuntu 64 bit (one 11.04 and
the other 11.10) and when running nviz I get

On a 32 bit machine it works fine (same GRASS version as above 6.4.1-2)

Anyone confirms?

 GRASS GIS 6.4.1 released

We are pleased to announce that the new stable version GRASS 6.4.1
has been released. This release fixes some bugs discovered in the
GRASS 6.4.0 source code and a few new features (over 560 updates
to the source code with respect to 6.4.0 have been added). As a
stable release 6.4 will enjoy long-term support.

GRASS 6.4 brings a number of exciting enhancements to the GIS. Our
new wxPython graphical user interface (wxGUI) is debuted, Python
is now a fully supported scripting language, and for the first
time since its inception with a port from the VAX 11/780 in 1983,
GRASS runs natively also on a non-UNIX based platform: MS-Windows.

GRASS differs from many other GIS software packages used in
the academic and professional worlds in that it is developed and
distributed by users for users, mostly on a volunteer basis, in the
open, and is given away for free. The source code is also freely
available, allowing for immediate customization, examination of
the underlying algorithms, addition of new features, and faster
 patching of bugs.

[GRASS-user] problems deleting vectors with GRASS/osgeo4w

2010-11-06 Thread Giovanni Manghi
Hi all,

I'm experiencing problems while deleting vectors from mapsets under
GRASS installed with the osgeo4w installer under windows Seven.

As I usually use GRASS under QGIS and I initially guessed it could be
something with the plugin, but then I confirmed the problem under GRASS
using the standard wxpython GUI.

The problem does not seems to affect GRASS I have installed in Ubuntu
linux (using the ubuntugis repository).

Actually if I want to delete a vector map from a mapset I have to do the
operation twice

(Sat Nov 06 21:04:18
2010)
g.remove
vect=provin...@mapset3003
Removing vector provin...@mapset3003
Unable to delete file 'C:\Users\gio

couldn't be removed
provinces nothing removed
(Sat Nov 06 21:04:19 2010) Command finished (1
sec)
(Sat Nov 06 21:04:27
2010)
g.remove
vect=provin...@mapset3003
Removing vector provin...@mapset3003
(Sat Nov 06 21:04:28 2010) Command finished (1 sec)

the first try seems to have the only effect to remove the dbf file (the
vectors are imported shapefiles), while the second try deletes the
remaining folder into the vector folder.

Under QGIS: when hitting the delete selected map in the grass tools
browser windows the following message shows

cannot delete map provinces
command: provinces g.remove.exe vect=provinces

then the 0_polygon, 1_polygon, etc. do disappear but the name of the
vector remains. Hitting refresh it produces

cannot open vector ... in mapset ... on level 2 (topology not
available, try to rebuild using the v.build module)

Hitting again delete selected map just produce the error message

cannot delete map provinces
command: provinces g.remove.exe vect=provinces

If I try to remove manually the vector trough the GRASS console (under
QGIS) I get:

C:\g.remove vect=pontos

GRASS_INFO_MESSAGE(1800,1): Removing vector pontos
GRASS_INFO_END(1800,1)

GRASS_INFO_WARNING(1800,2): Unable to delete file

GRASS_INFO_WARNING(1800,3): couldn't be removed
GRASS_INFO_END(1800,3)

GRASS_INFO_WARNING(1800,4): pontos nothing removed
GRASS_INFO_END(1800,4)

C:\

while manually directly under GRASS I get

GRASS 6.4.0 (location3003) g.remove vect=pontos
Removing vector pontos
WARNING: Unable to delete file
 'C:\Users\gio
\Desktop/location3003/mapset3003/vector/pontos/hist'
WARNING: couldn't be removed

If someone can confirm is a GRASS problem in the osgeo4w installer I
will be able to open a ticket.

 Hello

Anyone know when GRASS 6.4 is likely to be released for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
 - as we only use LTS versions of Ubuntu we are still on GRASS 6.2.2

 Many thanks

[GRASS-user] buffer question

2009-10-09 Thread Giovanni Manghi
Hi all,

a friend is asking me if there is a straight way in GRASS to make a
buffer like the one represented in this arcgis screenshot

http://evora.sigaberto.org/downloads/buffer.jpg

the buffer would be calculated along a line splitted with v.split

thanks in advance

Here I tried a bit and it seems, that v.buffer works for whole geometry,
not for each part (like each line segment gets its own area).

So there is no direct way, as I can find out.

It would be useful also to have a side parameter.

..doing it for each extracted line and patch them together would be a
 workoround here...

it seems it would be painful for more than a few line segments, but
meanwhile is better than nothing.

thanks

Re: [GRASS-user] Can I just get rid of Wish?

2009-06-09 Thread Giovanni Manghi

ERROR: Invalid user interface specified - wxPython.
Use the --help option to see valid interface names.
 logout

 [Process completed]

The terminal window displaying that message accepts no further input. I
can't figure out how to use that --help option, or how to change GRASS_GUI
without being able to start GRASS. I reinstalled to no avail.

How do I fix this? And then, how can set it up for wxPython?

try

-wx

instead of

-wxpyhton
