So, basically booting Linux on your Mac works.

If it is EFI related. Try to install another Live Linux onto your stick,
and test it. Try to make it a superfloppy (not partitioned), and test then.

But as the stick boots on your PC, I would say EFI...

Why?
Just in case, have you synced GPT/MBR via rEFIt?

Although that seems to be another issue...

Re: [Grml] grml and mactel

2009-03-03 Thread Chaitat Piriyastit
I have just tried installing Ubuntu 8.10 on /dev/sda3 (next to
/dev/sda3 that I have grml installed) and it works. I can boot
Ubuntu.

I am on hold on the usb installation because I am lacking of knowledge
about efi. I think BootCamp did something on my GUID Partition Table
when it created a vfat partition for Windows.

Anyway, I will concentrate on the harddisk installtion first.

I prefer grml... I use grml at home and I am so happy. I can only
take my macmini to the office. Not enough budget to buy a new
computer. I believe there is some few things wrong... the grml live
cd is working perfectly...

2009-03-03 Thread Chaitat Piriyastit
Now I tried repartitioning the harddisk that contains macosx using BootCamp
which prepared the disk for installing Windows for 8GB. Then I booted my
macmini with GRML live cd. I used fdisk to partition that /dev/sda3 and
maked as bootable. Then used grml2hd /dev/sda3 to install grml into this
partition.

Looking good so far.

After I had finished installation, I rebooted and booted grml from rEFit.
Yeah... I see GRML first page where I can select which kernel to boot of. I
used the default, the monitor gone blank. I rebooted and tried the second
line, 'grml debug' something, I got "Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted
to kill init!

As far as I can see it is a Mac related problem, or rather a refit
related one.

Try to hold down the ALT key when booting, then refit should not appear.
Instead (I hope) the builtin apple Boot menu should appear, with your
flash drive selectable. Try to boot it from this menu, and see what happens.

Re: [Grml] grml and mactel

2009-03-01 Thread Chaitat Piriyastit
Hi OJ,

I have just made a fresh installation and it can be booted from PC.
What I did are:

* boot grml live cd from macmini
* plug usb flash drive into macmini
* grml2hd into that flash drive
* on the very last installation process, i select to install lilo on mbr
* i shutdown macmini
* i plug that flash drive into my pc
* i can boot grml from that flash drive on my pc properly

However, when I tried on macmini, it shows the same error message I provided
you before.

Thanks,

Can you boot anything else than Mac OSX from refit? Have you tried a
