  I have been able to replicate this behavior with other architectures (ppc64le
and x86_64). Even the latest build of iptraf-ng (from the upstream source)
shows this behavior. This is not seen on a similar 14.04.4 system.

  I experimented with copying over the libncurses.so.5.9 and
  libncursesw.so.5.9 from a Trusty install, and found that this appears
  to be related to the Xenial version of libncursesw5. When run with
  the Trusty version of libncursesw.so.5.9, iptraf-ng behaved as
  expected.

Title:
  Some fonts packages in pkg_depends dropped from archive after Wily

Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in language-selector source package in Xenial:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Some fonts packages, which previously were named ttf-*, have been
  replaced with packages named fonts-*. Transitional dummy packages were
  available in Wily, but were dropped from archive in Xenial.

  This upload updates the fonts package names in pkg_depends, so the
  complete language support is installed for the affected languages.

  [Test Case]

  Example: Nepali

  $ cat /usr/share/language-selector/data/pkg_depends | grep ^fn:ne
  fn:ne::ttf-devanagari-fonts
  $ rmadison ttf-devanagari-fonts
   ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.11ubuntu1 | precise | all
   ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | trusty  | all
   ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | vivid   | all
   ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | wily| all

  So ttf-devanagari-fonts has been replaced with fonts-deva.

  $ rmadison fonts-deva
   fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | vivid   | source, all
   fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | wily| source, all

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1574849] Re: URL in manpage not updated for https

2016-04-25 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Hello Robert,

thank you for this report and the patch. My understanding is that the
https-support isn't mandatory. So, it would be better be to fix the
issue properly, I guess. Let's see what Stéphane will have to say. I
suppose that we should do something in the just-released Xenial as well,
so I've added an appropriate task.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1574835] [NEW] Some fonts packages in pkg_depends dropped from archive after Wily

2016-04-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

$ cat /usr/share/language-selector/data/pkg_depends | grep ^fn:ne
fn:ne::ttf-devanagari-fonts
$ rmadison ttf-devanagari-fonts
 ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.11ubuntu1 | precise | all
 ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | trusty  | all
 ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | vivid   | all
 ttf-devanagari-fonts | 1:0.5.14ubuntu1 | wily| all

So ttf-devanagari-fonts has been replaced with fonts-deva.

$ rmadison fonts-deva
 fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | vivid   | source, all
 fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | wily| source, all
 fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | xenial  | source, all
 fonts-deva | 2:1.2 | yakkety | source, all

[Regression Potential]

Neglectable.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1547466] Re: grep switches into binary mode while processing a text file

2016-04-25 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, thanks for pointing out. I understood it as the changes in grep 2.23
were deliberate, and during xenial this caused quite a lot of fallout
which we fixed.

Reverting the behavior for C makes sense. Thus now we still need to find
the actual fix in gnulib. Applying the doc and test to grep itself is
still worthwhile though and should absolutely be part of the SRU.

Bug description:
  I noticed this staring to happen in Xenial about two days ago. When
  running sbuild (or now the buildd, too), the build breaks when trying
  to compile a generated file. I traced the problem down to grep
  suddenly acting weird. When not having any language set (or a non-UTF8
  mode) it will start printing some lines of a source file and then
  suddenly end that by printing "Binary file ... matches".

  With the attached file, the difference can be observed (running
  Xenial):

  LANG=C grep -v xxx grant_table.h

  and

  LANG=C.UTF-8 grep -v xxx grant_table.h

  In order for dosemu to reach maximum performance (a > 10x speedup) please
enable kconfig X86_LEGACY_VM86 in the kernel. As of this commit
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-tip-commits/msg30360.html
  the overzealous kconfig message that seemed to suggest that the vm86()
syscall was a security hazard in itself has been revised to reflect reality.
Also please note that even if this kconfig option is enabled the runtime
default is still off as vm86 is only actually enabled if the sysctl
vm.mmap_min_addr is set to 0. That said, allowing vm.mmap_min_addr=0 is a
known security risk and enabling the vm86() syscall to operate additionally
would add little value to any potential attacker.

Bug description:
  [ problem description ]

  sockfile_check_retries is first introduced by #1455608, for preventing
  the failure case of sockfile not ready, but it was default to a hard-
  coded value "5", it might be too short for a busy system boot.

  #1455608 -
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1455608

  [ step to reproduce ]

  setup a clean install system (Ubuntu Server 14.04.4 LTS), and assemble
  os disk as RAID-1, boot up some guest instances (count > 10, start-at-
  boot), force shutdown host by pressing power-button for 3s ~ 5s, or
  via IPMI command, then power-on afterward. it may sometimes failed to
  get sockfile ready after in "post-start" script, with an line of error
  in /var/log/syslog,

  ==> kernel: [ 313.059830] init: libvirt-bin post-start process (2430)
  terminated with status 1 <==

  since there's multiple VMs Read/Write before a non-graceful shutdown,
  RAID devices need to re-sync after boot, and lead to a slow response,
  but start-up script for libvirt-bin can only wait 5 cycles, 2 seconds
  wait for each cycle, so it will timed-out after 10s, and exit with
  "1".

  [ possible solution ]

  extend the retry times for sockfile waiting, and make it possible to
  change via editing `/etc/default/libvirt-bin` file.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1574670] [NEW] ubuntu-support-status returns inaccurate information

2016-04-25 Thread Marc Deslauriers
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

ubuntu-support-status returns inaccurate and misleading information.

It uses the Supported field in the Packages file which hasn't been used
or updated since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and earlier releases when we had a 3
year/5 year support split between desktop and server. (See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/FAQ#Official%20Support)

It also uses the term "unsupported" instead of "community-supported"
which doesn't accurately portray the status of universe packages.

This tool should be rewritten to return more accurate results, or simply
removed completely.

Bug description:
  In 14.04 (both in 5.5 and 5.6), the default /etc/mysql/my.cnf shipped
  with options "key-buffer" and "myisam-recover". In 5.7, these option
  names have been removed and replaced with "key-buffer-size" and
  "myisam-recover-options" instead. If a user customised
  /etc/mysql/my.cnf before, then the entire file is preserved, including
  the removed options, causing mysqld to fail to start after upgrade to
  5.7 (eg. when upgrading to 16.04).

  If your customisations were made in 15.04 or 15.10 and
  /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated does not exist, then the workarounds below
  are still essentially the same but with a couple of exceptions:

  1. Instead of editing /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated, edit the file you
  originally changed directly. This may be /etc/mysql/my.cnf (through
  the symlink), or a file you changed or added in either
  /etc/mysql/conf.d/ or /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/. The command "grep -Er
  'key.buffer|myisam.recover' /etc/mysql" may help you in locating this.

  2. No need to run update-alternatives to remove use of
  /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated.

  [Workaround Option 1/3]

  To reset your MySQL configuration back to defaults, type "sudo update-
  alternatives --remove my.cnf /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated" after the
  upgrade. Then use "sudo service mysql start" to start the MySQL daemon
  and "sudo apt-get -f install" to recover your system packaging state.

  This option is not available if /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated doesn't
  exist on your system, for example if your customisations were made on
  15.04 or 15.10.

  [Workaround Option 2/3]

  For a quick fix while retaining your existing customised
  configuration, edit the [mysqld] section /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated as
  follows. But see the caveats detailed below and consider Workaround
  Option 3/3 instead first.

  1. Replace "key_buffer" with "key_buffer_size". Note that there is a
  second occurrance of "key_buffer" under the [isamchk] section at the
  end of the file; changing this second occurrance is not necessary.

  2. Replace "myisam-recover" with "myisam-recover-options".

  Then use "sudo service mysql start" to start the MySQL daemon again
  and "sudo apt-get -f install" to recover your system packaging state.

  However, this workaround does not put you in the best place for future
  upgrades, since packaging will continue to not be able to perfectly
  update this file while preserving your modifications. Additionally
  there may be parts of your previously customised configuration that
  still will not work with MySQL 5.7.

  To make future upgrades smoother in the future, consider following the
  next workaround option instead.

  [Workaround Option 3/3]

  Examine /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated for the customisations you made
  previously. You can find an original version of /etc/mysql/my.cnf as
  shipped with 14.04 at: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
  branches/ubuntu/trusty/mysql-5.5/trusty/view/head:/debian/additions/my.cnf

  Determine the changes you made to /etc/mysql/my.cnf. Taking only these
  changes and not the default contents of this file, add just your
  customisations into a new file at /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/local.cnf
  (preferred) and/or by editing /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf (to
  be avoided if possible) if necessary.

  Run: "sudo update-alternatives --remove my.cnf
  /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated" to switch to the new configuration scheme.

  Run: "sudo service mysql start" to start the MySQL daemon and "sudo
  apt-get -f install" to recover your system packaging state.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1574483] [NEW] assigns MAC-based names for devices with locally administered MAC address

2016-04-25 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Originally from https://bugs.debian.org/812575: Our current
/lib/systemd/network/90-mac-for-usb.link assigns MAC-based names to all
USB devices. However, this is wrong and pointless for locally
administered MAC addresses (with the second bit set to '1', see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address#Address_details).

The old 75-persistent-net generator had this rule:

   ENV{MATCHADDR}=="?[2367abef]:*",ENV{MATCHADDR}=""

which ignored these devices. We need to adjust 90-mac-for-usb.link to do
the same, and only apply to universally administered MAC addresses (at
least until https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
devel/2016-April/039302.html gets concluded).

We should simply fall through the default policy of assigning location
based names. The kernel assigned ones have no meaning whatsoever, so
this at least provides name stability for use cases where you can rely
on plugging the device into the same port.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Users of tgt who wish to make use of the server command line options:
 -d,--debug , -t,--nr_iothreads, -C,--control-port will fail due to
 an option parsing error. This prevents users from exercising
 additional control of the tgtd, regressing the capabilities of tgtd.

 This affects the 1.0.63 release of tgt and is not yet fixed upstream.
 Patches have been sumitted.

   * Backporting fixes from upstream release is required to ensure
 users of tgtd can exercise all capabilities, including enabling
 debugging and other features previously available to tgt users.

   * The patch fixes a misuderstanding of the use of errno after calling
 the strtoull libc call. Errno is not set in all cases for strtoull
 so extra checks must be used to determine if the current value of
 errno is related to the strtoull call.

  [Test Case]

   * On a Xenial 16.04 system
  1. lxd init
  2. lxc launch ubuntu-daily:xenial x1
  3. lxc exec x1 -- /bin/bash -c 'apt-get update && apt-get -y install tgt
&& tgtd -d1; echo $?'

  # On FAILURE: return code will be non-zero with the following
  output

  -d argument value '1' invalid
  Try `tgtd --help' for more information.
  22

  # After installing the newer tgt package, return code will be 0

  [Regression Potential]

   * Unlikely any new regressions will take place as the current package
 prevents users from using portions of tgtd due to not being able to
 pass numeric values to tgtd options.

  [Other Info]
   * Debian Bug filed:
 - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=822160
   * Upstream request to accept patch
 - http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.stgt/535

  [Original Description]
  tgt-1:1.0.62-1ubuntu2

  # ./tgtd -d 1
  -d argument value '1' invalid
  Try `tgtd --help' for more information.

  The following change should fix the problem:

  --- util.h.old  2015-12-02 03:27:15.0 +0300

  Here, the errno is checked incorrectly: you can't check
  errno unless the returned value allows you to. In case
  of strtoull(), errno should be checked only if ULONG_MAX is
  returned.
  I however can't test the fix properly because when compiled
  from source, the bug doesn't happen. The value of errno is
  unspecified, and it just happens to be 0 when I compile from
  sources.
