  [Original Report]
I get a font glyph corruption in various dialog boxes in libreoffice. This
happens using the following graphic configuration:
    *-display

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1575460] Re: Intel video driver not installed by default on Lubuntu 16.04 fresh install

2016-07-04 Thread Julien Lavergne
It should be fixed in 16.10 with lubuntu-core 0.67. The SRU for 16.04
will follow.

Title:
Intel video driver not installed by default on Lubuntu 16.04 fresh
  install

Status in lubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in lubuntu-meta source package in Xenial:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * xserver-xorg-video-intel is not included in Lubuntu ISO because it
switched to recommends on the common seeds. Since Lubuntu ISO doesn't
include recommends, so xserver-xorg-video-intel is missing (but
  included on other flavors).

   * xserver-xorg-video-intel is not mandatory for Intel users, but it
needs a recent hardware to work correctly. According to the packages
  description :

"The use of this driver is discouraged if your hw is new enough (ca. 2007
and newer). You can try uninstalling this driver and let the server use
  it's builtin modesetting driver instead."

   * However, Lubuntu targets old hardwares, and there are a lot of
reports from Intel users that, without this drivers, X doesn't load.

  [Test Case]

   * Install Lubuntu 16.04 with an official 16.04 ISO, on a system with an
Intel graphic device.
   * Boot on the installed system, and the boot process should stop before X is
loading.
   * To confirm the fix, install manually xserver-xorg-video-intel and boot
again.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Stick with the old driver may have an impact on the performances of
the driver (the new one should be better for 3D and others graphic
  stuff).

   * However, others flavors kept this driver on the ISO, and according
to the reports, it's probably safe to keep this driver for now.

  [Original report]

I did a new installation of Lubuntu 16.04 LTS on a intel atom netbook
  installation completes with any problem.

On booting the installed system i only got a black screen with the message:
"/dev/sda1: clean, 121563/920272 files"
I've changed to a terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1), and reading logs i've
found xserver-xorg-video-intel package is NOT INSTALLED

installed the xserver-xorg-video-intel package, and everything works
  ok now.

Tried again with other computers (intel gpu all) and i've downloaded
the iso again and still happens

can confirm this happen to at least other two people on ubuntu forums:

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1596638] Re: python2 cannot import lsb_release on yakkety and now xenial

2016-07-04 Thread Robie Basak
Confirmed. This seems to be a regression in 9.20160110ubuntu0.1. I
couldn't reproduce in a container that I'd already tested 9.20160110.
Perhaps a compiled module got left behind on update? But it does affect
new Xenial containers that have 9.20160110ubuntu0.1 installed fresh (not
upgraded). This impacts server use cases where people deploy new cattle
instead of upgrading pets.

Bug description:
The firmware for this card isn't included with Ubuntu. The firmware
provided in /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174 in Ubuntu 16.04 crashes when
used with this card. This included firmware is likely for the QCA6174
instead of this card, the QCA6164.

Yes, you read that right: the files for the QCA6164 need to be a
folder called QCA6174 in order for the card to work. Running
"modprobe ath10k_pci" shows that the ath10k_pci module looks for
firmware in a folder called QCA6174, but not in any folder called
  QCA6164.

It seems that before this issue can be resolved, the ath10k_pci module
must be changed so that it recognizes firmware for both the QCA6164
  and QCA6174, in separate folders.

  ---

HOW TO GET THIS CARD TO WORK:

  1) Use a kernel that supports this card

According to WikiDevi, support for this card was added in kernel 4.3.
If you're running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or above, your kernel is fine; skip
to the next step. If you're running Ubuntu 15.10 or below, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds for info on installing a
newer kernel. Alternatively, you can use backports. This is a lot
more work, but if you really need to keep using an older kernel for
some reason, there are some guides to installing backports in the
  comments below.

  2) Get rid of the firmware folder for this card that's included with
  Ubuntu:

  sudo rm -r /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/

  3) Download the latest firmware:

  wget https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware/archive/master.zip

  4) Unzip the downloaded file. Inside the ath10k-firmware-master
folder is a folder named QCA6174. Copy the QCA6174 folder to
  /lib/firmware/ath10k:

  unzip master.zip
  sudo cp -r ath10k-firmware-master/QCA6174/ /lib/firmware/ath10k/

  5) Rename two of the firmware files like so:

  cd /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw2.1/
  sudo mv firmware-5.bin_SW_RM.1.1.1-00157-QCARMSWPZ-1 firmware-5.bin
  cd /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/
  sudo mv firmware-4.bin_WLAN.RM.2.0-00180-QCARMSWPZ-1 firmware-4.bin

  6) Reboot your computer. Run "lshw -C network" to see if your card is
recognized. You can delete the files you downloaded earlier:

  cd ~
  rm master.zip
  rm -r ath10k-firmware-master/

I've verified that this works with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (with kernel
4.4.0-21-generic); let me know if it doesn't work for you in the
  comments below.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1595869] Re: SRU: apply four upstream bug fixes in bash for 16.04 LTS

This bug was fixed in the package bash - 4.3-14ubuntu1.1

---
bash (4.3-14ubuntu1.1) xenial-proposed; urgency=medium

  * SRU: LP: #1595869.
  * Apply upstream patches 043 - 046. Fixes:
- When the lastpipe option is enabled, the last component can contain
nested pipelines and cause a segmentation fault under
  certain circumstances.
- A typo prevents the `compat42' shopt option from working as intended.
- If a file open attempted as part of a redirection fails because it is
interrupted by a signal, the shell needs to process any pending traps
to allow the redirection to be canceled.
- An incorrect conversion from an indexed to associative array can result
  in a core dump.
  * Add $HOME/.local/bin to PATH, and add the user's home directories
unconditionally to the path, so that they are available without
a new login. Closes: #820856, LP: #1588562.

Please add ~/.local/bin to the default $PATH

Status in bash package in Ubuntu:

Status in bash source package in Xenial:

Status in bash package in Debian:

Bug description:
Starting in Xenial, 'pip install' by default places executables into
~/.local/bin. This is the de-facto standard place to put per-user
executables -- for example, Fedora/Redhat puts it on the $PATH by
default, and PEP 370 makes it the standard place for unprivileged
installs of Python packages to put their scripts.

But unfortunately, Ubuntu's does *not* add this directory to $PATH by
default, which means that 'pip install' doesn't actually work -- any
scripts that are installed are inaccessible, and every user has to
manually add this to their PATH.

Ubuntu should put ~/.local/bin onto PATH by default.

Minor details (discussed with @doko at the PyCon sprints):

  - this should go at the beginning of PATH rather than the end, in accordance
with Debian policy saying that more-local paths go before more-upstream paths.
(This is inconsistent with how Fedora/RH do it, but consistent with how Python
itself searches for packages.)
  - this will be added to /etc/skel/profile, so that it won't change any
existing user accounts; it will only be applied to user accounts created
*after* this change lands
  - unlike ~/bin (which Debian/Ubuntu have supported for ages), it will be
added to PATH unconditionally, even if the directory doesn't exist. This is
important to avoid a nasty trap for new users, where the first time they try to
install a Python package they have to restart their shell. Since this only
applies to new accounts, the directory will always start out nonexistent/empty,
so having it in $PATH won't cause any unexpected changes in behavior.
  - possibly it would make sense to set this in /etc/environment or
/etc/skel/.gnomerc or similar, so that it would also apply to non-shell
processes (e.g. if the user wants to add a global key-binding to launch a
Python program, then generally ~/.profile *doesn't* affect the environment
where this command gets executed, and that can frustrate and confuse users if a
command works fine from the terminal but not from a keybinding). But we should
defer this discussion for the future, because even if this is a good idea, it
isn't a good idea in a Xenial stable update.

In Ubuntu 14.04 (and Linux Mint 17), /etc/bash.bashrc handles "command

  the line:

  /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/command-not-found -- $1

However, /usr/lib/command-not-found was rewritten for Python 3. To

is installed, command-not-found will try to execute with the local
  python3 and gives:

Could not find platform independent libraries
Could not find platform dependent libraries
  Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to [:]
Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding
  ImportError: No module named 'encodings'

Current thread 0x7f04862de740 (most recent call first):
  Aborted

This can be solved by replacing line 22 of /usr/lib/command-not-found
  with:

  os.execv("/usr/bin/python3", [sys.argv[0]] + sys.argv)

Searching for "os.execvp", it doesn't appear that the same error
occurs for any other scripts in /usr/lib/. Any script using os.execvp
with the correct permissions is a potential security vulnerability if
the path is changed to contain a malicious script under the correct
name. Fortunately this is not the case for command-not-found.

  Original Bug Description

I think the "Books" app included in GNOME is so incomplete that it
would be better to set NoDisplay=True for it.

What happens when you launch GNOME Books
  ===

Books opens, showing you the .cbr, .cbz, .djvu, .mobi, .epub files it
  finds in your tracker-searched folders.

The only file type it lets you actually view though is .cbr and .cbz
(which are usually used for comic books). For everything else, it
  displays an uphelpful error message:

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
  documents/commit/?id=9c5cf3e98c15c17736bacda1aa2eea9458cbf4ce

Since the evince "Document Viewer" can also display .cbr and .cbz
files just fine, GNOME Books is redundant.

Worse, "Books" implies that it will let you read commonly used ebook
formats such as .epub or .mobi but it cannot.

GNOME Books development is slow. The initial Books feature is a year
and a half old and the "coming soon" message is a year old.

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-documents/log/?qt=grep&q=books

Once Books gets epub support, we should probably show the Books app
again. You can follow the progress of that effort at
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=740971

I am the author of WireframeSketcher tool for which I distribute
debian packages (wireframesketcherstudio). This is a commercial
desktop app that we registered through developer.ubuntu.com, and it
has accumulated some reviews and scores in the previous years. Ubuntu
14.04 shows 4 stars for WireframeSketcher. The same reviews are also
visible under Ubuntu 16.04, however only 2 stars are shown.

I've tried to calculate the score manually using a weighted average
formula and the score given on Ubuntu 14.04 is the one that is

If this is a bug then please fix it. However if the score was lowered

Debian does not consider CC-BY-SA 2.0 to be compatible with the Debian Free
Software Guidelines.

GNOME Taquin 3.18 includes 2 CC-BY-SA 2.0 images. When this issue was
reported, those 2 images were replaced but only in the 3.20 series.

Because the 3.20 series only makes limited changes, I think it would
be easier to just update the package to 3.20.1 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

gnome-taquin 3.20 has already been released to Ubuntu 16.10
development so this bug is only about an SRU for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

  Other changes made
  --
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-taquin/tree/NEWS?h=gnome-3-20
  - The CSS theming was updated to support GTK+ 3.20 but pre-GTK+ 3.20 theming
compatibility was preserved.
  - Several copyright updates: Help is now clearly CC-BY-SA 4.0 (it was listed
as both 3.0 and 4.0 in the 3.18 release). The About screen has been updated.
Finally, debian/copyright has been updated.
  - "the “valign” property of some buttons of the headerbar has been set to
“center”, to look better on some rare configurations."

  Affect on Ubuntu Flavors

GNOME Taquin is not shipped on any Ubuntu flavor release media nor does any
other package depend on it currently.

  SRU: New upstream release (3.18.3)

Status in gnome-documents package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-documents source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Description]
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was released with gnome-documents version 3.18.2.

GNOME has released a bugfix update for the stable 3.18 series: 3.18.3.

  [Test cases]
Here are the three things it fixes:

  1. Unbreak going back from preview when launched from search provider
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/760124

  a. Download a .pdf to ~/Documents or ~/Downloads
  b. Wait a few moments for tracker to index the file (tracker is enabled by
default in Ubuntu GNOME so this should happen automatically there)
  c. From GNOME Shell, open the Activities Overview and search for the pdf you
downloaded.
  d. Click the result with the Documents logo to the left of it (the result
with the File Browser icon next to it will open in Evince instead which is not
what we want here).
  e. Once Documents has opened, click the back button in the top left of the
toolbar.
  f. The bug is that it doesn't lead you back to the Documents main screen.

  2. Disable Print menu item when unsupported (Bastien Nocera)
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758445

  a. The upstream bug only notes CBR and CBZ as being affected. Note that those
files do not show up in GNOME Documents but show up in GNOME Books and this SRU
hides Books by default (LP: #1584522).
  b. Download a .cbz. I suggest
http://www.bitcartel.com/downloads/martinlutherking.cbz to ~/Documents or
~/Downloads
  c. Run gnome-books (from a terminal or Alt+F2)
  d. Open the martinlutherking document.
  e. In the top right corner, click the menu drop down button.
  f. The bug is that the Print button is shown as active (able to be clicked)
but doesn't do anything when you click it. The bug fix is that the button is
shown greyed out since the document can't be printed by GNOME Books.

  3. Try not to open PDFs in GIMP
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/758529
I was unable to reproduce this bug.

  [Regression potential]
The only fix I might be concerned about is #3 because I could not reproduce
the original bug easily. However I have not seen any issues from it and it was
included in GNOME 3.20 and backported to the 3.18 and 3.16 stable branches.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1587686] Re: ZFS: Running ztest repeatedly for long periods of time eventually results in "zdb: can't open 'ztest': No such file or directory"

2016-07-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package zfs-linux - 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu10

---
zfs-linux (0.6.5.6-0ubuntu10) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Sync with relevant upstream fixes (LP: #1594871)
   - Fix user namespaces uid/gid mapping
As described in torvalds/linux@5f3a4a2 the &init_user_ns, and
not the current user_ns, should be passed to posix_acl_from_xattr()
and posix_acl_to_xattr(). Conveniently the init_user_ns is
available through the init credential (kcred).
 (upstream commit 874bd959f4f15b3d4b007160ee7ad3f4111dd341)
 ZFS #4177
   - Fix ZPL miswrite of default POSIX ACL
Commit 4967a3e introduced a typo that caused the ZPL to store the
intended default ACL as an access ACL. Due to caching this problem
may not become visible until the filesystem is remounted or the inode
is evicted from the cache. Fix the typo.
 (upstream commit 98f03691a4c08f38ca4538c468e9523f8e6b24be)
 ZFS #4520
   - Create unique partition labels
When partitioning a device a name may be specified for each partition.
Internally zfs doesn't use this partition name for anything so it
has always just been set to "zfs".
However this isn't optimal because udev will create symlinks using
this name in /dev/disk/by-partlabel/. If the name isn't unique
then all the links cannot be created.
Therefore a random 64-bit value has been added to the partition
label, i.e "zfs-1234567890abcdef". Additional information could
be encoded here but since partitions may be reused that might
result in confusion and it was decided against.
 (upstream commit fbffa53a5cdb9b796de5afc9be8c1f79619253d4)
 ZFS #4517
   - Fix inverted logic on none elevator comparison
Commit d1d7e2689db9e03f1 ("cstyle: Resolve C style issues") inverted
the logic on the none elevator comparison. Fix this and make it
 cstyle warning clean.
 (upstream commit 60a4ea3f948f1596b92b666fc7dd21202544edbb)
 ZFS #4507
   - Remove wrong ASSERT in annotate_ecksum
When using large blocks like 1M, there will be more than UINT16_MAX
qwords in one block, so this ASSERT would go off. Also, it is possible
for the histogram to overflow. We cap them to UINT16_MAX to prevent this.
 (upstream commit 21ea9460fa880bb072a9ca9d845aef740f9d3af6)
 ZFS #4257
   - Fix 'zpool import' blkid device names
When importing a pool using the blkid cache only the device
node path was added to the list of known paths for a device.
This results in 'zpool import' always using the sdX names
in preference to the 'path' name stored in the label.
To fix the issue the blkid import path has been updated to
add both the 'path', 'devid', and 'devname' names from the
label to the known paths. A sanity check is done to ensure
these paths do refer to the same device identified by blkid.
 (upstream commit c9ca152fd1de1b0fd959e772b9a25d14a891952b)
 ZFS #4523, #3043
   - Use udev for partition detection
When ZFS partitions a block device it must wait for udev to create
both a device node and all the device symlinks. This process takes
a variable length of time and depends on factors such how many links
must be created, the complexity of the rules, etc. Complicating
the situation further it is not uncommon for udev to create and
then remove a link multiple times while processing the udev rules.
In order to address this the zpool_label_disk_wait() function
has been updated to use libudev. Until the registered system
device acknowledges that it in fully initialized the function
will wait. Once fully initialized all device links are checked
and allowed to settle for 50ms. This makes it far more likely
that all the device nodes will exist when the kernel modules
 need to open them.
For systems without libudev an alternate zpool_label_disk_wait()
was updated to include a settle time. In addition, the kernel
modules were updated to include retry logic for this ENOENT case.
Due to the improved checks in the utilities it is unlikely this
logic will be invoked. However, if the rare event it is needed
 it will prevent a failure.
 (upstream commit 2cb77346cb698ae0c233c7baf8b4c787205b54e9)
 ZFS #4523, #3708, #4077, #4144, #4214, #4517
   * Fix ztest truncated cache file (LP: #1587686)
Commit efc412b updated spa_config_write() for Linux 4.2 kernels to
truncate and overwrite rather than rename the cache file. This is
the correct fix but it should have only been applied for the kernel
build. In user space rename(2) is needed because ztest depends on
 the cache file.
 (upstream commit 151f84e2c32f690b92c424d8c55d2dfccaa76e51)

[SRU] Adding app to app folders is broken

Status in GNOME Software:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]
GNOME Shell introduced "app folders" in 3.8 (Ubuntu 13.10) with the default
"Sundry" and "Utilities" folders, but there was not an easy way to configure
them until now. (See
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/05/add-categories-to-gnome-shell-dashboard for
the complicated way.)

GNOME Software has built-in support for editing app folders but this
feature doesn't work in the 3.20 version. Although the feature is
hard-to-find unless you know it's there from reading a guide on the
internet, it's a nice improvement for Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS.

These app folders are not used by Unity, LXDE or XFCE.

  [Test Case]
  0. Install the Software update, then log out and log back in to be sure the
old gnome-software is not running in the background.
  1. From Ubuntu GNOME (or at least from GNOME Shell), run the Software app.
  2. Switch to the Installed tab.
  3. Click the checkbox icon in the toolbar.
  4. Select Aisleriot Solitaire
  5. Click Add to Folder...
  6. Click the + button and add a folder named Games. Click Add.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Open the Activities Overview.
  9. In the bottom left, click the Show Applications button.
  10. In the bottom center, click the All button.
  11. Scroll down. You should see a Games folder with Aisleriot inside it.

  [Regression Potential]
The patch to fix this comes from GNOME, where it was cherry-picked to the
GNOME 3.20 branch (after 3.20.3).

Since the feature is completely broken currently and the patch will be
picked up other distros shipping GNOME 3.20, the regression potential
  is low.

  Two patches are needed:

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1594871] Re: Sync up latest relevant upstream bug fixes

2016-07-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package zfs-linux - 0.6.5.6-0ubuntu10

---
zfs-linux (0.6.5.6-0ubuntu10) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Sync with relevant upstream fixes (LP: #1594871)
   - Fix user namespaces uid/gid mapping
As described in torvalds/linux@5f3a4a2 the &init_user_ns, and
not the current user_ns, should be passed to posix_acl_from_xattr()
and posix_acl_to_xattr(). Conveniently the init_user_ns is
available through the init credential (kcred).
 (upstream commit 874bd959f4f15b3d4b007160ee7ad3f4111dd341)
 ZFS #4177
   - Fix ZPL miswrite of default POSIX ACL
Commit 4967a3e introduced a typo that caused the ZPL to store the
intended default ACL as an access ACL. Due to caching this problem
may not become visible until the filesystem is remounted or the inode
is evicted from the cache. Fix the typo.
 (upstream commit 98f03691a4c08f38ca4538c468e9523f8e6b24be)
 ZFS #4520
   - Create unique partition labels
When partitioning a device a name may be specified for each partition.
Internally zfs doesn't use this partition name for anything so it
has always just been set to "zfs".
However this isn't optimal because udev will create symlinks using
this name in /dev/disk/by-partlabel/. If the name isn't unique
then all the links cannot be created.
Therefore a random 64-bit value has been added to the partition
label, i.e "zfs-1234567890abcdef". Additional information could
be encoded here but since partitions may be reused that might
result in confusion and it was decided against.
 (upstream commit fbffa53a5cdb9b796de5afc9be8c1f79619253d4)
 ZFS #4517
   - Fix inverted logic on none elevator comparison
Commit d1d7e2689db9e03f1 ("cstyle: Resolve C style issues") inverted
the logic on the none elevator comparison. Fix this and make it
 cstyle warning clean.
 (upstream commit 60a4ea3f948f1596b92b666fc7dd21202544edbb)
 ZFS #4507
   - Remove wrong ASSERT in annotate_ecksum
When using large blocks like 1M, there will be more than UINT16_MAX
qwords in one block, so this ASSERT would go off. Also, it is possible
for the histogram to overflow. We cap them to UINT16_MAX to prevent this.
 (upstream commit 21ea9460fa880bb072a9ca9d845aef740f9d3af6)
 ZFS #4257
   - Fix 'zpool import' blkid device names
When importing a pool using the blkid cache only the device
node path was added to the list of known paths for a device.
This results in 'zpool import' always using the sdX names
in preference to the 'path' name stored in the label.
To fix the issue the blkid import path has been updated to
add both the 'path', 'devid', and 'devname' names from the
label to the known paths. A sanity check is done to ensure
these paths do refer to the same device identified by blkid.
 (upstream commit c9ca152fd1de1b0fd959e772b9a25d14a891952b)
 ZFS #4523, #3043
   - Use udev for partition detection
When ZFS partitions a block device it must wait for udev to create
both a device node and all the device symlinks. This process takes
a variable length of time and depends on factors such how many links
must be created, the complexity of the rules, etc. Complicating
the situation further it is not uncommon for udev to create and
then remove a link multiple times while processing the udev rules.
In order to address this the zpool_label_disk_wait() function
has been updated to use libudev. Until the registered system
device acknowledges that it in fully initialized the function
will wait. Once fully initialized all device links are checked
and allowed to settle for 50ms. This makes it far more likely
that all the device nodes will exist when the kernel modules
 need to open them.
For systems without libudev an alternate zpool_label_disk_wait()
was updated to include a settle time. In addition, the kernel
modules were updated to include retry logic for this ENOENT case.
Due to the improved checks in the utilities it is unlikely this
logic will be invoked. However, if the rare event it is needed
 it will prevent a failure.
 (upstream commit 2cb77346cb698ae0c233c7baf8b4c787205b54e9)
 ZFS #4523, #3708, #4077, #4144, #4214, #4517
   * Fix ztest truncated cache file (LP: #1587686)
Commit efc412b updated spa_config_write() for Linux 4.2 kernels to
truncate and overwrite rather than rename the cache file. This is
the correct fix but it should have only been applied for the kernel
build. In user space rename(2) is needed because ztest depends on
 the cache file.
 (upstream commit 151f84e2c32f690b92c424d8c55d2dfccaa76e51)

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
command-not-found is mostly useless on s390x, due to only arch:all packages
being in the database.

  [Test Case]
Install new command-not-found (and data) and verify that it gives hints for
arch:any and arch:s390x packages, such as 'hello' and 'lsqeth'

  [Regression Potential]
Low to none, as long as the data for other arches doesn't change in
unexpected ways.

many commands not found by command not found on an s390x machines.

  E.g. hello is not found.

  [Impact]

Individuals who have abiword and a telepathy-based client (like Empathy)
installed and who have set up their online account with Ubuntu will see Abiword
open a blank document every time they log in!

Lubuntu is the only Ubuntu 16.04 LTS flavor to ship Abiword and Ubuntu
GNOME is the only one to still include empathy by default. (Xubuntu
included Abiword until 15.10 and Ubuntu included Empathy before
  16.04.)

  [Test Case]
  ===
  1. Install abiword and empathy
  2. Run empathy

  What happens

  Empathy starts...but so does Abiword!

  What should happen
  -
Empathy starts. Abiword doesn't start unless you specifically start Abiword.

  [Regression Potential]
  ==
Low. The Abiword packaging in Debian and Ubuntu mistakenly did not include
/usr/share/telepathy/clients/AbiCollab.client in the abiword package. This has
been fixed in Debian "testing" and Ubuntu 16.10 development.

  [Original Bug Report]
  ===
I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 some days ago. Not so much problem noticed since
then, but only one (not a fatal one though): abiword - for some reason - always
starts (automatically, without any user interaction) after logging in (to unity
desktop). For sure, I can close it, but it's kinda strange it happens anyway,
and I can't tell why. I could only find the following page which describes
something similar (but I guess it's more on the gnome3 desktop from the OP, I
mean about the "regular" Unity desktop of Ubuntu):

The Abiword large icon has smaller versions of itself included. See the
attached screenshot. This can be seen in the application launcher in Unity or
GNOME Shell and also the Alt-Tab switcher in those desktops.

I believe this bug was introduced in Abiword 3.0.1 (so it would affect
Ubuntu 15.04, 15.10 and 16.04 LTS. It is fixed in abiword 3.0.1-7 for
  Ubuntu 16.10 (development).

  [Test case]
  ===
  1. Install Abiword
2a. From Unity (the default user interface of Ubuntu), click the top left
icon to open the Dash. Click the 2nd icon at the bottom to open the
Applications view and look for Abiword.

  or
2b. From GNOME (the default user interface of Ubuntu GNOME), click the
Activities button. Click the Show Applications button at the bottom left.

I don't think other desktops like XFCE and LXDE show the high-
resolution application icon so this bug is not as noticable there.

  3. Verify the icon displays correctly without embedded smaller
  versions of itself.

  See the visual diff at

https://github.com/AbiWord/abiword/commit/b0c7c0c971d15091b280ff9ba0d4abbfc94f9d1b?short_path=10fc502
  #diff-10fc5020166685caf25ae700dcee4921

  [Regression potential]
  ===
Low. The patch to fix this only affects the high-resolution .svg application
icon. The low-resolution icons used elsewhere are .pngs and are not affected.

The patch was committed to Abiword's ABI-3-0-0-STABLE branch 7 months
ago but Abiword has not made a stable release tarball with the fix.

I will attach a .debdiff for sponsoring to bug 1432271.
