  Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release:16.04
  # apt-cache policy nano
  nano:
Installed: 2.5.3-2
Candidate: 2.5.3-2

  Reproducer:
  1. # nano -G
999
  2.
  3. # nano -G
999
  4.
  5.

  Quick dissection:
Looking at function do_lockfile in files.c, it seems that promptstr is
statically allocated to 128 characters. Now with a sufficiently long filename,
the following sprintf() call will overflow the allocated promptstr buffer and
corrupt memory.

Status in pepperflashplugin-nonfree source package in Xenial:
  New
Status in pepperflashplugin-nonfree source package in Yakkety:
  New
Status in pepperflashplugin-nonfree package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Pepperflashplugin-nonfree is a Debian package, slightly modified for
Ubuntu, and available in multiverse, that downloads the PPAPI Flash
plugin from Google (up to v1.8.3 in Debian and v1.8.2+nmu1ubuntu1 in
Ubuntu 16.10) or Adobe (starting with v1.8.3+nmu1 in Debian and
v1.8.3+nmu1ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 17.04), and installs it as /usr/lib
  /pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so.

Versions that download the PPAPI plugin from Google are currently
broken since Google decided to unbundle the plugin from Chrome 54,
released in late 2016-10. Until that date, ripping the PPAPI plugin
from a download of Google Chrome (which comes as a .deb package) was a
popular way to get it, and the only possible way on Linux in the early
days of the PPAPI plugin, when it was only available to Google. Then
Adobe made the Linux PPAPI plugin available to Canonical and on their
  download site.

The Debian package was changed to download the plugin from Adobe, in
version 1.8.3+nmu1 on 2017-01-14, and that fix landed in
1.8.3+nmu1ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 17.04 (the current development release) on
  2017-01-22.

The package is still broken in the published releases: 16.10 16.04
14.04. It could be repaired by merging the changes made between
1.8.3ubuntu1 and 1.8.3+nmu1ubuntu1 into the published releases'
  versions of the package.

This would qualify for an SRU because the bug comes from a change in a
web service that made the package stop being installable. This change
also causes a security vulnerability in so far as the Flash plugin can
no longer be updated (updates were processed by downloading a new
version of Google Chrome and extracting the bundled Flash plugin).

  [Test Case]

On Ubuntu < 17.04, installation and reinstallation of
  pepperflashplugin-nonfree (v < 1.8.3+nmu1ubuntu1) fails. On Ubuntu
  17.04 (v = 1.8.3+nmu1ubuntu1), it succeeds.

  [Regression Potential]

I can't think of any. The new version has been in Debian Sid for one
month without any report of a regression, so that's a good sign. It
was initially tested in debbug 833741.

  [Why not to SRU]

On the one hand, it's bad form to leave an utterly broken package in
the published releases when it has been fixed in the development
release and works there. Theoretically, SRUs should be performed.

On the other hand, pepperflashplugin-nonfree is The Debian's Way to
install the PPAPI Flash plugin. Ubuntu users are recommended to
install adobe-flashplugin from Canonical's partner repository instead.
Not all Ubuntu users are aware of that. See:

  https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/net-install-flash.html
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Flash

We can consider intentionally not fixing that package in the published
releases, in which case this bug report should be marked Won't Fix in
  Yakkety, Xenial, Trusty.

Currently kexec is unable to see all the "System RAM" recorded in /proc/iomem.

On a newer UEFI based Qualcomm target the number of system ram regions
retrieved from /proc/iomem are ~40. Currently KEXEC_SEGMENT_MAX is
set to 16, which represents the kexec segments passed to kexec_load

Bug description:
Similar like Bug #1603719 or Bug #1604396 i got a "Permission denied"
when trying to access a NFS subshare from our NFSv4 Server.

I tried this under (K)ubuntu Trusty and Xenial and also with the
ubuntu based Mint Versions 17.3 Rosa an 18 Sarah.

Kernel Versions higher than 4.4.0-31 from offical Ubuntu Repository has the
problem.
Before 4.4.0-31 not. For safety reasons i used the linux-generic-lts-wily
meta package

The 4.4 mainline kernel also works without problem currently
  (4.4.37-040437-generic)

Our NFS server runs under FreeBSD 11, but same problems to the clients
with FreeBSD 10.3 and OmniOS r151018.

All NFS servers use ZFS as the filesystem and NFSv4 with kerberos for
sharing. For the basic structure we use also ZFS filesystems.

So my homefolder is located on the server under
  /apool/AIS/share/home/staff/fili/linux ... each level is a ZFS
filesystem. On the client nfs share /apool/AIS/share/home is mounted
  under /home/VI

My posix homedirectory path is /home/VI/staff/fili/linux

When i try to login i got access to /home/VI/staff/fili ... but when i
try to access the linux directory / zfs filesystem i got the
  permission denied.

The fstab options for /home/VI are
  _netdev,rw,sync,sec=krb5,nfsvers=4,clientaddr=w.x.y.z

I tried also autofs but with the same result.

Just like Ubuntu itself, upstream releases long term support releases,
as is 2.0 and then periodic point releases including all the
  accumulated bugfixes.

Only the latest upstream release gets full support from the upstream
developers, everyone else is expected to first update to it before
  receiving any kind of support.

This bugfix release has already been uploaded to Zesty and
automatically backported in the upstream PPAs for all Ubuntu releases.
So far without any reported regression.

This should qualify under the minor upstream bugfix release allowance
of the SRU policy, letting us SRU this without paperwork for every
single change included in this upstream release.

Once the SRU hits -updates, we will be backporting this to trusty-
backports as well, making sure we have the same version everywhere.

We don't support transactional memory in PR KVM, so don't tell the OS that we
do.

  These are the required patches:

  commit 2e68f28854f0120c9a938a61b64aaf1eaecb162b
  Author: Thomas Huth
  Date: Wed Sep 28 13:16:30 2016 +0200

ppc: Check the availability of transactional memory

KVM-PR currently does not support transactional memory, and the
implementation in TCG is just a fake. We should not announce TM
support in the ibm,pa-features property when running on such a
system, so disable it by default and only enable it if the KVM
implementation supports it (i.e. recent versions of KVM-HV).
These changes are based on some earlier work from Anton Blanchard
  (thanks!).

hw/ppc/spapr: Fix the selection of the processor features

The current code uses pa_features_206 for POWERPC_MMU_2_06, and
for everything else, it uses pa_features_207. This is bad in some
cases because there is also a "degraded" MMU version of ISA 2.06,
called POWERPC_MMU_2_06a, which should of course use the flags for
2.06 instead. And there is also the possibility that the user runs
the pseries machine with a POWER5+ or even 970 processor. In that
case we certainly do not want to set the flags for 2.07, and rather
simply skip the setting of the pa-features property instead.

hw/ppc/spapr: Move code related to "ibm,pa-features" to a separate
function

The function spapr_populate_cpu_dt() has become quite big
already, and since we likely have to extend the pa-features
property for every new processor generation, it is nicer
if we put the related code into a separate function.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #147836 +++

  ---Problem Description---
When the system is installed with encrypted swap partition the attempt to
swap ends in a system freeze. No error, no dump, the system needs to be
reloaded.

Contact Information = Bernd-Rainer Bresser/Germany/IBM, Wen Yi AG
Gao/China/IBM

  ---uname output---
  Linux s38lp65 4.4.0-36-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 11 18:05:09 UTC 2016

  Machine Type = z13 LPAR

  ---System Hang---
System is frozen. No error, no dump, the system needs to be reloaded.

  ---Debugger---
  A debugger is not configured

  ---Steps to Reproduce---
   1. install a system with encrypted swap partition. This can be done using
the installer or via manual updates to /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab.

  2. Verify encrypted swap partition exists
   cryptsetup status kvmibm-swap
/dev/mapper/kvmibm-swap is active and is in use.

  3. force swapping
this can be done by a command like this (if the system has 8GB memory)
  dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null ibs=16k obs=8G count=2MB

  Stack trace output:
   no

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1658289] Re: Regression in pdo_pgsql after SRU to php 7.0.13 (fixed upstream)

2017-02-14 Thread Robie Basak
It doesn't look like this is fixed in 7.0.15 to me.
http://php.net/ChangeLog-7.php doesn't list the bug, and suggests that
7.0.15 was released on 19 Jan. The upstream fix was written and
committed on 20 Jan. I looked at queue/xenial/unapproved/096b3ce (tree
id d3103de) and this doesn't appear to have the fix (it still has the
line that was dropped upstream).

It appears that systemd-udevd is triggering every time HTX writes to
the boot sector (partition table) of the raw drive, and this is
causing the revalidate calls which expose the issue with the block
driver mq freeze. With a partition table on each drive, HTX will no
longer be writing the partition table and no longer triggering systemd
to re-read the partition table and try to freeze I/O.

The fix for this is provided by the following upstream commit:

Bug description:
from source, I'm running the tests and the makefile fails at the end
  with:

  running stackprofile
Makefile:303: recipe for target 'tests' failed

No idea why that is happening. It's breaking on our kernel team
regression tests runs, so can this be investigated? The source was
  fetched using "apt-get source apparmor".
