That means that MAAS or other users of curtin are not able to install to use iscsi disks during installation. The changes in this bug add the ability to specify non-root iSCSI targets to curtin, and include integration tests (vmtest) and unit tests to excercise the functionality. [Test Case] Run curtin vmtest on tests/vmtests/test_iscsi.py. ./tools/jenkins-runner tests/vmtests/test_iscsi.py The named test sets up an iscsi server with tgt and does an installation utilizing the disks provided by that iscsi server. [Regression Potential] Regression would most likely be a result of the new iscsi functionality mis-identifying configuration for a local disk as a iscsi disk, and then failing to do things as a result. End Curtin SRU Template [FFe Justification] - Curtin currently does not support specifying iSCSI targets in the storage configuration. - Users have iSCSI targets they would like to install to via curtin. - The changes in this bug add the ability to specify non-root iSCSI targets in the YAML and include vmtests and unittests for that functionality. - Existing users are unaffected by this change, as if they specified a iSCSI compatible value in their YAML currently it would fail to parse. The added code is only used when iSCSI is used. --- Curtin needs to support the ability to attach an ISCSI block device during the installation and perform disk operations just like a locally attached block device. The disk also needs to be auto mounted when Ubuntu is rebooted after installation. While the main purpose of this is to "reread the filter rules", the biggest use by frequency is to reload the SpamAssassin rules. In our production deployment, this happens up to daily--every time their is a SpamAssassin rule update released. Without the ability to use "reread", one must fall back on "restart". That's a disruptive operation that will result in mail being tempfailed for a short period of time. If sysadmins have not noticed this regression, then rule changes are not getting applied properly, though normal slave turnover eventually brings them in. [Test Case] Steps to reproduce: sudo md-mx-ctrl reread Expected results: Forced reread of filter rules Actual results: Cannot destroy and recreate a Perl interpreter safely on this platform. Filter rules will NOT be reread. [Regression Potential] The regression potential is small. The patch changes a ./configure test only. The only impact on the application code comes from the SAFE_EMBED_PERL #define being correctly enabled again, which it has been "forever". Screenshot attached. [Impact] * Users of Mate which use Déjà Dup get confused by the wrong terminology regarding their file manager. * The upstream fix detects Mate desktops using XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and fills a new variable with "Caja" or "Files". [Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1657092] Re: deja-dup refers to "Files" instead of "Caja"
This bug was fixed in the package deja-dup - 34.4-0ubuntu1 --- deja-dup (34.4-0ubuntu1) zesty; urgency=medium * New bug-fix upstream release: - In MATE, call the file manager Caja, not Files (LP: #1657092) - Fix documentation and strictness of using xdg location variables in gsettings include/exclude keys - Don't show control center panel in Unity8 -- Michael Terry Thu, 09 Mar 2017 14:30:50 -0500 ** Changed in: deja-dup (Ubuntu Zesty) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of नेपाली भाषा समायोजकहरुको समूह, which is subscribed to Xenial. Screenshot attached. [Impact] * Users of Mate which use Déjà Dup get confused by the wrong terminology regarding their file manager. * The upstream fix detects Mate desktops using XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP and fills a new variable with "Caja" or "Files". That variable is included in the string afterwards. [Test Case] * Open Déjà Dup inside Ubuntu Mate (launch "deja-dup-preferences" from a terminal) * Install the necessary software by clicking the "Install..."-button. * Create a backup: - Choose a location on the "Storage Location" tab (or use the default local folder) - On the "Overview" tab perform a backup using the button "Backup now" * On the "Overview" tab: Look at the description above the restore button. * It refers to Files instead of Caja [Regression Potential] * None that I am aware of. The worst case should be limited to a broken (or untranslated) string in Déjà Dup itself. This extension will stop working in Firefox once users upgrade to Firefox 52. Firefox 52 is scheduled for upstream release March 7, 2017 and 52 Beta will open approximately January 24. chrome-gnome-shell version 8 adds Firefox support that will keep working in Firefox 52 and beyond. There are actually two parts to chrome-gnome-shell: a system helper and a browser addon. The chrome-gnome-shell package provides the system helper. The browser addon can be installed directly without admin privileges from https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/gnome-shell-integration/ or for Chrome at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gnome-shell-integration/gphhapmejobijbbhgpjhcjognlahblep For more details, see https://blogs.gnome.org/ne0sight/2016/12/25/how-to-install-gnome-shell-extensions-with-firefox-52/ Test Case = - In Ubuntu GNOME, install the updated chrome-gnome-shell - Open Firefox and browse to https://extensions.gnome.org/local/ - In the list of extensions, turn on the "Applications Menu". The Activities button in the top left of the screen should now read Applications and show a menu of installed apps when clicked. - Turn off the "Applications Menu". The Applications button should revert to being a simple Activities button. * Repeat the above test with chromium-browser * If you are using Firefox 51, that test was just testing the old functionality (It's important that it still works though!). To test the new version: - Install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/gnome-shell-integration/ - To make sure that you aren't testing the old functionality, run sudo rm /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so - Restart Firefox and do the above "Applications Menu" test. - When you are finished testing, run this command to restore the manually deleted file: sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell Regression Potential === It's important that installing the Firefox helper does not break the existing Firefox support for https://extensions.gnome.org/ Other Info == chrome-gnome-shell 7 is available in Ubuntu 16.10. We want to make version 8 available in -updates for 16.10, 16.04 and 14.04 LTS. (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is completely End of Life in April and was never officially supported by Ubuntu GNOME.) For 16.10, I am backporting the updated packaging since the changes are minor and make sense. For the ubuntu-gnome-desktop metapackage update, see https://launchpad.net/bugs/1652538 It might be nice if a future chrome-gnome-shell would include the Firefox addon too instead of just the system helper, but that's complicated since I believe addons need to be signed in Ubuntu. https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chrome-gnome-shell/+bug/1652537/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~group.of.nepali.translators Post to : group.of.nepali.translators@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~group.of.nepali.translators More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Fix] Change the systemd unit's ExecStart to an ExecStop so the unit is correctly sequenced. [Test Case] In a VM with /var separated from the / file system, shutdown the VM. It will hang for 10 minutes [Regression] None to be expected. A ExecStop unit will be sequenced before the Before= units which is earlier than previously. [Original description of the problem] The systemd unit file unattended-upgrades.service is used to stop a running unattended-upgrade process during shutdown. This unit file is running together with all filesystem unmount services. The unattended-upgrades service checks if the lockfile for unattended-upgrade (in /var/run) exists, and if it does, there is an unattended-upgrade in progress and the service will wait until it finishes (and therefore automatically wait at shutdown). However, if /var is a separate filesystem, it will get unmounted even though /var/run is a tmpfs that's still mounted on top of the /var/run directory in the /var filesystem. The unattended-upgrade script will fail to find lockfile, sleeps for 5 seconds, and tries to check the lockfile again. After 10 minutes (the default timeout), it will finally exit and the system will continue shutdown. The problem is the error handling in /usr/share/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrade-shutdown where it tries to lock itself: while True: res = apt_pkg.get_lock(options.lock_file) logging.debug("get_lock returned %i" % res) # exit here if there is no lock if res > 0: logging.debug("lock not taken") break lock_was_taken = True The function apt_pkg.get_lock() either returns a file descriptor, or -1 on an error. File descriptors are just C file descriptors, so they are always positive integers. The code should check the result to be negative, not positive. I have attached a patch to reverse the logic. The admin who ran systemctl can run those other commands to debug. However, when called by invoke-rc.d, this output is usually seen only in a log file; maybe submitted in a bug report, maybe attached to something like an autopkgtest: https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac /autopkgtest-yakkety/yakkety/armhf/o/openafs/20160624_174535@/log.gz By the time someone looks at this log output, it is often too late to run those commands in order to debug the failure. invoke-rc.d should call these commands for us on systemd unit failure, so that the relevant debugging information is included in the log where it can help. We don't want to call 'journalctl -xe', which might leak information into the log from other jobs, but 'journalctl -x -u ' may be appropriate. [Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1640878] Re: grub2 cannot currently generate configuration without initrd
This bug was fixed in the package grub2 - 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.8 --- grub2 (2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.8) xenial; urgency=medium * debian/patches/support_initrd-less_boot.patch: Added knobs to allow non-initrd boot config. Thanks Chris Glass! (LP: #1640878) -- Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre Wed, 01 Mar 2017 12:36:16 -0500 ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of नेपाली भाषा समायोजकहरुको समूह, which is subscribed to Xenial. Matching subscriptions: Ubuntu 16.04 Bugs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1640878 Title: grub2 cannot currently generate configuration without initrd Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in grub2-signed package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in grub2 source package in Xenial: Fix Released Bug description: As it currently stands grub2 cannot create grub.cfg menu entries that do not use an initrd image if one is present but the user does not desire to use it. Furthermore, root= entries only support UUID and LABEL, but neither is an option if booting the kernel without an initrd. Suggestion: Allow grub2 to create configuration files without an "initrd" line and passing PARTUUID as root= entry by adding configuration knobs. [SRU Justification] A lot of time is wasted across the many, many instances of Ubuntu loading initramfs when booting. It's a measurable savings of CPU time and electricity to skip loading an initramfs at boot if it's not required. [Test case] 1. cp /boot/grub/grub.cfg /tmp/grub.cfg 2. install the grub packages from -proposed. 3. cmp /boot/grub/grub.cfg /tmp/grub.cfg || echo 'fail' 4. as root, configure /etc/default/grub to mount the root disk directly and bypass the initramfs: echo GRUB_DISABLE_INITRD=true >> /etc/default/grub root=$(awk > /etc/default/grub fi 5. If a partuuid has been found, run update-grub. Note that this will only work if your root device is a partition on a GPT-formatted disk. 6. Check that /boot/grub/grub.cfg now contains entries that don't specify an initramfs, and do include root=PARTUUID=* on the kernel commandline. [Regression potential] This upload introduces no behavior changes unless the user updates /etc/default/grub to configure the use of the new feature, so there should be no regressions here. The SRU test case verifies that /boot/grub/grub.cfg remains unchanged with the new version. This is a security issue since https URLs may contain sensitive information in the URL authentication part (user:password@host), and in the path and the query (e.g. access tokens). This attack can be carried out remotely (over the LAN) since proxy settings allow “Detect Proxy Configuration Automatically”. This setting uses WPAD to retrieve the PAC file, and an attacker who has access to the victim’s LAN can interfere with the WPAD protocols (DHCP/DNS+HTTP) and inject his/her own malicious PAC instead of the legitimate one. Solution Update to kio >= 5.32 and kdelibs >= 4.14.30 (when released) Or apply the following patches: kio: https://commits.kde.org/kio/f9d0cb47cf94e209f6171ac0e8d774e68156a6e4 kdelibs: https://commits.kde.org/kdelibs/1804c2fde7bf4e432c6cf5bb8cce5701c7010559 Credits === Thanks to Safebreach Labs researchers Itzik Kotler, Yonatan Fridburg and Amit Klein. This functionality was recently removed with nothing added to replace it. snapd must have a means to detect changes to the parser or the abstractions which the snap may #include, otherwise we cannot deliver parser and policy fixes from apparmor to installed snaps. It is fine to use a different method than what we had before, but we need to have something. MEDVEDEV - 2017-03-03 14:21:43 == ---Problem Description--- On ppc64el qemu the order of device scanning was recently changed, causing device names to be in reverse order compared to e.g. x86. This is creating a need for all sorts of work arounds to make the code that assumes certain order of devices to work on Power. The fix has been proposed and it appears it would go into Qemu 2.9, see [1]. It might be awhile until qemu 2.9 gets widely adopted as default. It would be beneficial if the fix can be backported to an earlier versions of Qemu.
