I've first tracked this down to the fact that git uses open(name, O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0666); to create files. If O_EXCL is not present, the files are created normally. I've tried various kernels from Ubuntu and the problems appeared between their 4.2.0-42-generic kernel-image (as found on willy) and the 4.4.0 kernels found on xenial. I tried building 4.9 from kernel.org and the problem is also there. I've then bisected the kernel to figure out that this is caused by the following commit: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=5334c5bdac926c5f8d89729beccb46fe88eda9e7 ie NFS: Send attributes in OPEN request for NFS4_CREATE_EXCLUSIVE4_1 Our NetApp filers are running: NetApp Release 8.2.3P3 7-Mode: Tue Apr 28 14:48:22 PDT 2015 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1654288/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~group.of.nepali.translators Post to : group.of.nepali.translators@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~group.of.nepali.translators More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1679252] Re: Cloud images for non-Intel architectures are configured with security repos that don't work
Hello Dan, or anyone else affected, Accepted livecd-rootfs into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd- rootfs/2.408.10 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance! ** No longer affects: livecd-rootfs ** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released ** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of नेपाली भाषा समायोजकहरुको समूह, which is subscribed to Xenial. [Regression Potential] This change modifies the sources that apt will use for updates, so the biggest risk for regression is that the fix is malformed and systems become un-updateable (either partially or fully). The test above should catch this. [Original Report] In the fix for bug 1513529, we[0] modified livecd-rootfs to write out a sources.list that matches the sources.list in Ubuntu Server installed from an ISO. We (presumably) compared to an Intel installation, and hard-coded security.ubuntu.com as a repo in sources.list. Unfortunately, packages for non-Intel architectures aren't published to security.ubuntu.com; they are instead published at http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/. That should be the URL that we configure as the source for $SUITE-security. [0] Well, *ahem*, _I_. I seem to be tickling a bug in the i915 stack, when I use a desktop monitor. The symptom is that the screen blanks for a few seconds then comes back . This happens every few minutes. I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad T460s (new this weekend) but last week I was using a Thinkpad W550s - same issue with the blank screen on both laptops. Happens every 20 mins or so and there is no identifiable reproducer (eg. I cam just be sitting there doing something else on my phone and the screen goes black). Here is lspci output for the video card: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Sky Lake Integrated Graphics (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Skylake Integrated Graphics Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 123 Memory at e000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at c000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=512M] I/O ports at e000 [size=64] Expansion ROM at [disabled] Capabilities: [40] Vendor Specific Information: Len=0c Capabilities: [70] Express Root Complex Integrated Endpoint, MSI 00 Capabilities: [ac] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit- Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [100] #1b Capabilities: [200] Address Translation Service (ATS) Capabilities: [300] #13 Kernel driver in use: i915_bpo Kernel modules: i915_bpo And in dmesg I see the below text: [161321.406860] i915_bpo :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment [161528.013954] [ cut here ] [161528.013996] WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 31178 at /build/linux-xHzv4a/linux-4.4.0/ubuntu/i915/intel_pm.c:3675 skl_update_other_pipe_wm+0x16c/0x180 [i915_bpo]() [161528.013998] WARN_ON(!wm_changed) [161528.014047] Modules linked in: hid_logitech_hidpp hid_generic hid_logitech_dj usbhid hid snd_usb_audio snd_usbmidi_lib cpuid drbg ansi_cprng ctr ccm rfcomm bnep snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_codec_generic uvcvideo videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_memops videobuf2_v4l2 videobuf2_core v4l2_common videodev media btusb btrtl btbcm btintel bluetooth arc4 joydev intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_powerclamp coretemp nls_iso8859_1 kvm snd_soc_skl snd_soc_skl_ipc snd_hda_ext_core snd_soc_sst_ipc snd_soc_sst_dsp snd_soc_core irqbypass crct10dif_pclmul crc32_pclmul aesni_intel snd_compress ac97_bus aes_x86_64 snd_pcm_dmaengine dw_dmac_core iwlmvm lrw snd_hda_intel gf128mul glue_helper snd_hda_codec ablk_helper mac80211 cryptd snd_hda_core snd_hwdep snd_pcm input_leds serio_raw iwlwifi rtsx_pci_ms [161528.014074] cfg80211 memstick snd_seq_midi thinkpad_acpi snd_seq_midi_event snd_rawmidi nvram mei_me mei shpchp snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_timer snd soundcore tpm_crb mac_hid parport_pc ppdev lp parport autofs4 rtsx_pci_sdmmc i915_bpo intel_ips i2c_algo_bit drm_kms_helper psmouse e1000e syscopyarea sysfillrect sysimgblt ptp fb_sys_fops pps_core drm nvme rtsx_pci wmi video fjes [161528.014079] CPU: 3 PID: 31178 Comm: Xorg Not tainted 4.4.0-47-generic #68-Ubuntu [161528.014080] Hardware name: LENOVO 20F9CTO1WW/20F9CTO1WW, BIOS N1CET47W (1.15 ) 08/08/2016 [161528.014085] 0286 b170f762 88027b36f600 813f5aa3 [161528.014088] 88027b36f648 c02a39a0 88027b36f638 81081262 [161528.014091] 880522e26000 88003f96a148 880522e27000 880523193b78 [161528.014092] Call Trace: [161528.014102] [] dump_stack+0x63/0x90 [161528.014108] [] warn_slowpath_common+0x82/0xc0 [161528.014112] [] warn_slowpath_fmt+0x5c/0x80 [161528.014144] [] skl_update_other_pipe_wm+0x16c/0x180 [i915_bpo] [161528.014175] [] skl_update_wm+0x185/0x610 [i915_bpo] [161528.014224] [] ? intel_ddi_enable_transcoder_func+0x17f/0x260 [i915_bpo] [161528.014273] [] intel_update_watermarks+0x1e/0x30 [i915_bpo] [161528.014326] [] haswell_crtc_enable+0x761/0x8e0 [i915_bpo] [161528.014378] [] ? intel_finish_crtc_commit+0xe/0x10 [i915_bpo] [161528.014395] [] ? drm_atomic_helper_commit_planes_on_crtc+0x154/0x270 [drm_kms_helper] [161528.014449] [] intel_atomic_commit+0x5d6/0x14a0 [i915_bpo] [161528.014488] [] ? drm_atomic_check_only+0x18e/0x590 [drm] [161528.014521] [] drm_atomic_commit+0x37/0x60 [drm] [161528.014538] [] restore_fbdev_mode+0x22f/0x260
