https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/382852fd581efe3cc0ae11154102ab9f435adea1

This removes "random time" messages flooding dmesg.

The spew was introduced with v229 commit "core: add new RandomSec=
  setting for time units".

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/744c7693751830149ae78fdaf95c6c6f99d59f07

trusty based off v204 is not affected.

xenial based off v229, yakkety based off v231, and zesty based off
  v232 need this fix.

artful based off v233 has the fix.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1687981] Please test proposed package

2017-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libxfont2 into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxfont2/1:2.0.1-3~ubuntu16.04.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.3 ***

  Revert changes to use debhelper10.

  xorg-server-hwe-16.04 needs updates
  - wayland 1.11 (but zesty has 1.12 which mesa needs so backport that)
  - x11proto-core 7.0.31
  - libxfont-dev 2.0.1, which also means backporting libxfont1 (NEW)

x-x-i-libinput will not replace -evdev in x-x-i-all-hwe-16.04 because the
unity mouse config doesn't work with -libinput.
x-x-i-libinput needs newer libinput, which in turn needs libwacom update.

Mesa needs llvm-4.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  zesty hasn't blown up

  [Other information]

  build order:
  1. x11proto-core, libdrm, libxfont, libxfont1, libwacom, llvm-toolchain-4.0,
vulkan, wayland
  2. libclc, libinput, xorg-server (build-dep libxfont1-dev)
  3. mesa, xorg-server-hwe-16.04

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1691614] Re: please enable CONFIG_ARM64_LSE_ATOMICS

2017-05-19 Thread dann frazier
I'm unaware of any systems that support LSE that are also supported by
the hwe-{x,y,z} kernels. I'll therefore mark those as "Won't Fix" for
those releases. If someone is aware of such a system - and can take on
the testing of this change for those releases, we can reconsider.

Status in linux source package in Xenial:

Status in linux source package in Yakkety:

Status in linux source package in Zesty:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Performance is lowered for ARM >= v8.1 cpus by not taking advantage of the
"Large System Extenstion" atomic instructions they provide.

Note: This config was enabled during xenial development, but was
disabled to workaround a FTBFS[*] due to us not having a new enough
binutils to support it. binutils was later updated in xenial, and
  supports these instructions.

  [Test Case]
  grep CONFIG_ARM64_LSE_ATOMICS=y /boot/config-$(uname -r)

  [Regression Risk]
There is a known small performance overhead for < ARMv8.1 arm64 systems
(noted in the Kconfig). To mitigate the risk of runtime or build failures, this
should be tested on both ARMv8 and >= ARMv8.1 systems, to exercise both code
paths.

The DGX server install process uses oem-config to setup certain
settings. We are seeing that oem-config-firstboot is replacing the
  /etc/resolv.conf symlink to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf with a hard
  file at /etc/resolv.conf.

This was confirmed by booting in single user mode after a fresh
install, and seeing the symlink is still there. Then go thru oem-
config-firstboot, and find that the symlink is no longer there when
  that is done.

We have to run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf" to restore that
  symlink.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1664702] Re: No documented way to pass in bond or bridge paramters

Should have been marked Fix Released for Zesty too.

Title:
No documented way to pass in bond or bridge paramters

Status in netplan:
  Fix Released
Status in nplan package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in nplan source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Documentation is important for users to know how to write the required
configuration file for bond or bridge device parameters.

  [Test case]
  - Run nplan integration tests on the release
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply alone, without config,
behave as expected (no result)
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply with minimal config writes
/run/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply works with any existing
configuation.
  - Validate that documentation shipped with netplan includes information about
the allowed parameters for bond and bridge devices (see
/usr/share/doc/netplan/netplan.html)

  [Regression potential]
Any failure to work with existing configuration should be considered a
regression. Any new failure of the test suite would be a regression.

  ---

According to the current documentation[1], there is no way to set bond
or bridge parameters. This is a requirement for the MAAS use case.

MAAS passes these parameters in the v1 YAML the same way as they are
represented in /etc/network/interfaces[2], inside a 'params'
dictionary. This allows interface type specific settings such as
spanning-tree and bonding modes to be specified, such as:

  br0:
    params:
  bridge_stp: on
  ...
  bond0:
    params:
  bond-mode: 4

(Note the quirk there with '-' being used for the bond and '_' for the
bridge; this is due to to an inconsistency regarding the /e/n/i
  syntax.)

I'm tentatively thinking of passing them in the same way, to prevent
information loss. But perhaps this could be standardized; a 'params'
dictionary could be used for generic OS or renderer-specific settings
where there is no guarantee of support, but netplan could standardize
commonly-used settings and present them in an "official" after they
each parameter has been fully specified.
