Bug description:
  [Impact]

A new upstream bugfix release is available. Release note diff compared
  to 17.2.2:

  "Mesa 17.2.3 is now available.

  In this release we have:

The Vulkan drivers ANV and RADV have multiple small fixes.

The EGL code has improved handling of the new wl_dmabuf codepath.

SWR no longer crashes when checking environment variables.

Other gallium drivers have also seen updates - freedreno, nouveau and
radeonsi. The gallivm module, used by llvmpipe et al. has gained little
  endian PPC64 fixes.

The VA and VDPAU state-trackers have seems improvements handling
  interlaced videos.

We're using python3 compatible constructs which gives us SCons 3.0
  support."

  "Mesa 17.2.4 is now available.

  In this release we have:

In Mesa Core we have included a change to prevent KOTOR from breaking
when in combination with the ATI fragment shader extension.
Additionally, NIR has also received a correction.

Mesa's state tracker has gotten a patch to avoid leaks in certain
situations like when resizing a window.

Intel drivers have received several fixes. The compiler has gotten a
couple, while anv also received one. i965 got a patch to avoid VA-
API, Beignet and other contexts in the system to break when in
combination with previous versions of Mesa 17.2.x.

AMD's compiler has received a couple of fixes while radv has also
received another couple, including one to avoid a hang due to an
  overflow on huge textures.

Broadcom's vc4 has corrected a problem when compiling with Android's
  clang.

clover has also seen fixed a problem compiling after a specific clang
  revision.

Vulkan's WSI has gotten plugged a memory leak for X11."

  [Test case]

Test typical use cases on the most common hw/driver combinations:
  intel/i965
  nvidia/nouveau
  radeon/radeonsi

  [Regression potential]

These releases are tested against compliance, bugfix releases in
particular have minimal risk of regressing anything major at least.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The user cannot exit from screensaver if a menu or an applications grabs the
screen. Fixing this bug will make the lockscreen experience more reliable.

  [Test Case]
  1) Call something like
  sleep 3 && gdbus call --session --dest com.canonical.Unity --object-path \
  /com/canonical/Unity/Session --method
com.canonical.Unity.Session.ActivateScreenSaver
  2) Open a menu within 3 seconds

The unity screen is turned off, but moving the mouse or hitting the
keyboard won't hide the unity blank window.

The same issue happens if the lockscreen is configured to start after
X seconds after the screen has been turned off.

  [Regression potential]
Make sure screensaver works with and without grabbing.

This problem is particularly evident when a new snapdragon kernel snap

  snap is generated):

  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/343287945
  /buildlog_snap_ubuntu_xenial_arm64_snapdragon-kernel-

To fix the problem i removed the two files from linux-firmware-
snapdragon 1.3-0ubuntu1 and pushed this new version to my ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~p-pisati/+archive/ubuntu/embedded/+packages
  linux-firmware-snapdragon - 1.3-0ubuntu1

  [Test case]

Try to build a snapdragon kernel snap using Xenial/updates - with
  linux-firmware 1.157.13 and linux-firmware-snapdragon 1.2-0ubuntu1 it
  won't complete, while with linux-firmware-snapdragon 1.3-0ubuntu1 it
  will successfully complete.

  [Regression risk]

The files imported in linux-firmware are the same files we
  shipped in linux-firmware-snapdragon:

  $ md5sum /lib/firmware/qcom/a300_pfp.fw

In MATE session, logout and shutdown dialogs sometimes don't get the
focus, and it's impossible to switch to them with Alt-Tab due to their
design. One has to use the mouse to switch there. Using Ctrl-Alt-Tab
can help as well, but I found out it doesn't work reliably in
  VirtualBox.

The fix for this issue is provided in the debdiffs attached to the
  report.

Would be nice to have the fix backported to all current Ubuntu
releases (Xenial, Zesty and Artful). The bug is very annoying for
users who rely on keyboard shortcuts to navigate the desktop. It also
  can be considered a11y issue.

  [Test Case]

There are several ways to reproduce this issue. For me the most
reliable one is to use keyboard shortcut to call the shutdown dialog:

  - press Ctrl-Alt-Del, the shutdown dialog appears, and it's usually focused
  - press Esc to dismiss the dialog
  - press Ctrl-Alt-Del again, now the shutdown dialog will appear unfocused

Now you need to use the mouse or Ctrl-Alt-Tab to interact with the
  dialog.

  [Regression Potential]

The fix just ensures that logout/shutdown dialogs will be always
focused when they appear on the screen. It means the dialog's behavior
is restored to what users expect. Nothing else is affected, so no
  chance for regressions.

  [Original Description]

Whether called by the power button (if configured as "Ask user") or by
clicking Quit in the menu, the shutdown options window does not have
the focus. It also does not appear in the windows when using alt-tab,
making it virtually impossible to shutdown without using the
  mouse/touchpad.

An old bug in Engrampa prevents users from creating zip archives when

The fix for this issue is provided in the debdiffs attached to the
  report.

The fix is already in Artful, and would be nice to backport it to
Zesty and Xenial as well. That bug caused problems for years,
especially if you don't remember that you once set the compression
level to maximum. The error message doesn't really help.

  [Test Case]

First, set the compression level to maximum, using either dconf-editor
  or gsettings tool:

  $ gsettings set org.mate.engrampa.general compression-level 'maximum'

Then try to compress any file(s) into zip archive. The operation will
fail with error message dialog, and the archive won't be created.

  [Regression Potential]

None. The fix doesn't affect any other features of Engrampa (other
archive types, other compression levels, extracting, and so on).

  [Original Description]

Engrampa 1.12.0-2 (64-bit) on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS

If compression-level is set to "maximum" through dconf, engrampa
cannot create zip archives while it still can handle every other
  archive type.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Buggy epub handling code makes atril-thumbnailer crash on the first
  epub document it encounters.

Until we write the proper thumbnailing code for epubs, the quick fix
is just to disable thumbnail generation for this type of documents.
That fix is provided in the debdiff attached to the report.

The bug is old, and it still haunts Xenial users when they just use
the file manager and enter some directory which contains at least one
epub document. So would be nice to have the fix backported to Xenial.

  [Test Case]

  Steps to reproduce:

  - have some epub document
  - open file manager (Caja or some other one) and enter
the directory where the epub document is
  - if apport is enabled, it will show the message about
atril-thumbnailer crash (which is annoying)
  - dmesg output will have a message about the crash too

If you need to reproduce it once more, first remove all the files from
  ~/.cache/thumbnails/fail directory.

In case you need some epubs for testing, you can find them at:
  https://github.com/IDPF/epub3-samples/releases

  [Regression Potential]

None. This quick fix just makes sure that crashy code won't run at
all. Other types of documents (like pdfs) aren't affected.

  [Original Description]

On a xenial desktop with both mate and LXQt open LXQt I mounted
another partition and tried to open an mp3 podcast and then apport
came up saying atril thumbnailer had crashed when I had pcmanfm-qt
open in LXQt. I did mount a home parition with a lot of different
files in it pdf ogg and several other things.

Title:
patch - fix Caja crash on unchecking "Show hidden and backup files" in
  prefs dialog

Status in caja package in Ubuntu:

Status in caja source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Due to a bug in Caja code, users see it crashing when they uncheck the
"Show hidden and backup files" in the prefs dialog. It had been fixed
in version 1.14.1, but it would be nice to backport it as a patch for
1.12, which is the default version in Ubuntu MATE 16.04 (if not using
  the PPA).

Patch is provided in the attachment below.

  [Test Case]

  0. Have Ubuntu MATE 16.04 with MATE 1.12 (no xenial-mate PPA enabled).
  1. Open Caja prefs dialog.
  2. If "Show hidden and backup files" isn't checked, check it, then close the
dialog and then open it again. That's because the item should be checked first
in order to trigger the bug.
  3. Now uncheck "Show hidden and backup files".
  4. Caja crashes.

  [Regression Potential]

During several months of testing the fix in 1.14, I haven't found any
regressions. The fix does affect quite small part of code, so
regression potential in regards to the whole functionality of Caja
  should be very low.

   * Percona will segfault when exposed to medium load, almost imediately
   * This is because of a bug in upstream, which manifests on ARM and PPC

  [Test Case]

   * Install and configure percona-xtradb-cluster-server
    * Run sysbench against configured node (only one node is needed, no need
for proper cluster):
     # sysbench --test=oltp --oltp-test-mode=complex --max-time=60
--num-threads=110 run
   * mysqld will segfault seconds withing starting the test

  [Regression Potential]

   * This is a cherry-pick from an upstream fix
(https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-6450)
   * This is not fixed in upstream Percona becasue Percona does not officially
support non-intel archs.
   * Because code adds additional memory barriers there was a chance of
performance degradation on i386/amd64. However, intensive sysbench syntetic
loads proved this is not the case - there are no performance penalties.

  [Original Description]

I'm trying to set up percona-xtradb-cluster-5.5 on PPC machine. While
the package installs fine, as soon as I run sysbench oltp becnhmark
against it, Percona dies (even when I start the benchmark with just
  one connection).

I can also crash mysql manually, by updating the sbtest table (which
is created by the sysbench utility):

  mysql> update sbtest set pad = 'mario1' limit 100;
ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query

Sometimes I need to repeat this update (with different values for
'pad' field) few times. This happens regardless of whether I run the
UPDATE inside the transaction or not.

This is the assertion found in the log file:

170117 21:10:55 InnoDB: Assertion failure in thread 7038321152 in file
buf0buf.ic line 1277
  InnoDB: Failing assertion: block->page.buf_fix_count > 0

  This is a single-node percona-xtradb-cluster server, without
wsrep_provied configured, run inside 14.04 lxc container on 16.04
  host.

I'm attaching the full log file, mysql configuration file and the core
  dumped.

The version of the package installed is this 5.5.37-25.10+dfsg-
  0ubuntu0.14.04.2.

Bug description:
  [impact]

the mdadm cron jobs invoke mdadm to scan raid arrays periodically, but
when inside a unpriviledged container mdadm does not have access to
the arrays, and it segfaults when invoked. This is logged in the host
system's logs, and while harmless, causes confusion about mdadm
  segfaults in the host logs.

  [test case]

install a ubuntu system and create one or more raid/mdadm arrays.
create a container, with either trusty or xenial inside the container.
in the container, install mdadm. Run:

  $ mdadm --monitor --scan --oneshot

that is the command run by mdadm's cronjob (though other variations on
the command will also segfault). With the current mdadm code, mdadm
will segfault. With the patched code, mdadm exits normally.

  [regression potential]

this patch changes mdadm's code that processes each array's name; a
bug in this area may cause mdadm to fail when performing any operation
on arrays, but not during the operation, the failure would occur
  before mdadm opened the array.

  [other info]

this commit fixing this is already upstream and included in zesty and
later; this is required only for trusty and xenial.

  [original description]

On Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Xenial, mdadm segfaults every day on two machines.
Everything works as normal though, and the RAID arrays are not degraded.

The segfault message always appears twice in quick succession.

It seems to be triggered by /etc/cron.daily/mdadm which essentially runs
  mdadm --monitor --scan --oneshot

As such, the frequency is around every 85000 seconds or 24 hours give
or take, depending on when the cron job was executed.

It does not happen when running the command manually.

There is one similar bug #1576055 concerning libc and a few cases
elsewhere but further digging into this has yet to reveal anything
  conclusive.

Note that these machines have almost exactly the same hardware (Xeon
D-1518, 16GB ECC), so hardware design flaws cannot be ruled out.
However, memory testing has not turned up any faults. That said, I
know some segfaults can be difficult to find even when they are
  hardware issues.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1732698] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.98 stable release

2017-11-16 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.98 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.98 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Invalid

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Xenial)
 Importance: Medium
 Assignee: Stefan Bader (smb)
