[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1762427] Re: No feedback when snap installation fails

2018-04-11 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

- What happened:
+ [Impact]
+ Install / remove operations that fail don't show correctly in GNOME Software.
Solution was to fix incorrect logic in snapd API code in GNOME software.

- I tried to install Ora from gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.8. The
- install button showed the initialised progress state, but never updated.
- Dropping to the terminal I could see with snap changes that the task had
- errored (because of a 503 talking to the store).
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Open GNOME Software
+ 2. Start installing a snap
+ 3. Cancel the operation from the command line (need to wait until install
starts, but before it completes):
+ $ snap abort --last=install

- What should happen:
+ Expected result:
+ Install stops and GNOME software show correct state

- The UI should provide some indication that the install was not
- successful.
+ Observed result:
+ Install button still shows, but no progress occurs.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Could create new bugs in async results.

** Summary changed:

- No feedback when snap installation fails
+ Snap install / remove failures aren't stopped in GNOME Software

webkit2gtk 2.20 adds a new security feature called the Gigacage that uses an
extremely large virtual memory address space (much larger than available
physical memory).

Deja Dup's monitor background service had "ulimit -v 100" (that's
1 GB) set as a workaround for a memory leak issue that the developer
  was unable to reproduce.

After upgrading to the new webkit2gtk version, Deja Dup's monitor
service will crash because of that virtual memory limit.

  Test Case
  -
  Install the deja-dup update.
Install the webkit2gtk update from a PPA (not prepared yet).
  Log out. Log in.
After a few minutes, check /var/crash/ for any Deja Dup crash reports.

  Regression Potential

This could reintroduce the memory leak bug, but otherwise this is a minimal
fix. Even if that happens, it's better than the service refusing to run.

Bug description:

Users need to write valid configuration, especially for new features that are
approved by not yet implemented, such as marking a link "optional".

  [Test case]
  Write a netplan configuration:

  network:
version: 2
renderer: networkd
ethernets:
  eth0:
optional: yes
dhcp4: yes

And run 'netplan apply'. Netplan should write configuration for the
link and not error out with a syntax error.

  [Regression potential]
This has a minimal potential for regression: the new keyword was added to be
supported already by consumers of netplan (users, cloud-init) so that they
could start writing config with the new key and that configuration to be seen
as valid by netplan before the backend is implemented. There is no functional
change besides allowing for the value to exist in a netplan configuation.

  ---

If I define an interface in netplan (even one which has no DHCP type
and no addresses), it's not possible to determine if its adminStatus
should be enabled (link up) or disabled (link down).

I can completely exclude an interface from the netplan configuration,
but I think that implies that not only its adminStatus is "disabled"
by default, but also netplan will not be able to do anything "nice"
for the interface, such as rename it to what the user specified in
  MAAS.

If I include the interface but don't specify any addresses or DHCP, it
isn't clear if it will be link up (my current assumption) or link
  down.

There should be a way to allow an interface to be recognized by
netplan (and even partially configured, waiting for the user to run
something like 'ifup ' on a manual but not auto-started
interface in ifupdown), but marked administratively disabled.
  (adminStatus down)

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Users of netplan configuring any bridge. Port priority is a very common
setting to change when setting up bridge devices that might have multiple
interfaces.

  [Test case]
  1) Write a netplan configuration:
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  eth0:
  match:
  name: eth0
  bridges:
  br0:
  addresses:
  - 192.168.14.2/24
  interfaces:
  - eth0
  parameters:
  path-cost:
  eth0: 50
  priority: 22
  port-priority:
  eth0: 14

  2) Run 'sudo netplan apply'

  3) Validate that the config generated by netplan is correct:

  In /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-eth0.network:

  [...]
  [Bridge]
  [...]
  Priority=14

  4) Validate that the port-priority value for the bridge has been
  correctly set:

  $ cat /sys/class/net/mybr/brif/eth0/priority

  [Regression potential]
This might impact STP behavior, such that while the port priority for a
bridge changes, the general network topology might change -- this may lead to
loss of connectivity on the bridge itself or on other devices on the network,
invalid packet traffic (packets showing up where they should not), etc.

  ---

Now that systemd supports port-priority for bridges (LP: #1668347)
netplan should handle port-priority like it does path-cost.

  1) % lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  1) # lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
  Release: 18.04

  2) # apt-cache policy nplan
  nplan:
    Installed: 0.30
    Candidate: 0.32
    Version table:
   0.32 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
   *** 0.30 100
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) netplan generate renders a networkd .network file which has
[Bridge] section including Priority value set on each of the bridge
  ports specified

  4) netplan fails to parse the input yaml with

  Sample config that should parse:

  % cat br-pp.yaml
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  eth0:
  match:
  macaddress: '52:54:00:12:34:04'
  bridges:
  br0:
  addresses:
  - 192.168.14.2/24
  interfaces:
  - eth0
  parameters:
  path-cost:
  eth0: 50
  priority: 22
  port-priority:
  eth0: 14

  % netplan generate
Error in network definition br-pp.yaml line 13 column 16: unknown key
port-priority

If fixed, then I would expect a /run/systemd/network/10-netplan-eth0.network
that looks like
  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:12:34:00
  Name=eth0

  [Network]
  Bridge=br0
  LinkLocalAddressing=no
  IPv6AcceptRA=no

  [Bridge]
  Cost=50
  Priority=14

  ---

In the documentation there are examples of YAML definitions that are
not valid YAML syntax. Take for example:

   addresses: [192.168.14.2/24, 2001:1::1/64]

  This will error with:

(): found unexpected ':' while scanning a plain scalar at
  line 1 column 31

This is because the IPv6 address has a ':' and it is not escaped.
Putting quotes around the IPv6 address or avoiding the one line list
  format would be best.

This occurs again in the nameservers example with:

    addresses: [8.8.8.8, FEDC::1]

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1760654] Re: test_140_kernel_modules_not_tainted in kernel security test failed with 4.4 X-kvm

2018-04-11 Thread Kamal Mostafa
This seems to be a false failure caused by test script itself (qa-
regression-testing/scripts/test-kernel-security.py):

Here, test_140_kernel_modules_not_tainted is complaining about a module
'signpost' which is a test module that was inserted by an unrelated test
case (test_072_strict_devmem) which ran and failed earlier in this run
(see bug 1760649). The fault is that test_072_strict_devmem fails to
remove its 'signpost' test module at line 768 if that assert at line 766
fails.

@Po-Hsu, could you take a look at fixing test_072_strict_devmem so that
it removes 'signpost' regardless of success or failure?

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1735344] Re: [SRU] 2.30

2018-04-11 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted snapd into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/2.32.3.2+18.04
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

We currently have no autopkgtest logs before snapd hits -proposed
because we got asked to disable our autopkgtest integration as it was
using too many resources from the autopkgtest infrastructure.

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into xenial.
The new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was
used and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images,
autopkgtests on classic and unit tests.

Status in snapd-glib source package in Bionic:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Older versions of Ubuntu are running older versions of snapd-glib. There have
since been bug fixes and support for newer API that was added to snapd since
release.

  [Test Case]
  1. Delete existing Snap credentials by deleting keys
com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.GnomeSoftware in Seahorse.
  2. Start GNOME Software
  3. Install a snap (e.g. moon-buggy)

  Expected result:
User is prompted for Ubuntu credentials and is able to install snap.

  Observed result:
Works as expected (i.e. only looking for regressions).

  [Regression Potential]
There is a risk of breaking existing use cases. This is reduced by the
regression tests in the package and the newer versions of snapd-glib working in
newer releases.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1762766] Re: apt-get update hangs when apt-transport-https is not installed

2018-04-11 Thread Julian Andres Klode
I think so, but I don't think it's worth pushing out an update just for
that change. It's been broken since forever, so it's not like it's
fixing a regression or something; so I'd probably wait for something
else to attach it to.

apt-get update hangs when apt-transport-https is not installed

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in apt source package in Trusty:

Status in apt source package in Xenial:
  Triaged
Status in apt package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
When "apt-get update" is run on a docker container running Ubuntu
v16.04 and containing an additional apt source repository hosted on an
https webserver, the "apt-get update" command hangs.

The hang happens after connections to http ubuntu hosts are complete,
and apt-get remains stuck on "Working" at 0%. Removing the sources
file for the https repo causes apt-get to complete normally.

The source file contains 4 separate entries to 4 different repos on
the same https server. When the source file is modified so that just
*one* entry exists to one repo on the https server, we suddenly get a
sensible error message that tells us that apt-transport-https needs to
  be installed.

Installing apt-transport-https into the docker container before adding
the sources list to the https servers works around the problem and
  sanity returns.

  Key notes:

  - The use of docker isn't related to the bug, except that the docker
image doesn't contain the apt-transport-https package whereas our
cloud images do contain this package by default. This can give the
impression that this is a docker bug when it's not.

  - The hang in "apt-get update" seems to occur when the sources file
contains more than one entry in the file. When just one entry exists
in the file (and all other entries are commented out) a sensible error
  messages appears.

  - We encountered this on a host that didn't support cut and paste,
  sorry :(
