  In Kilo, with ldap integrated, user_id can have non uuid format ( e.g. Gāo )
  Then after upgrading kilo to mitaka ( in trusty env )

  Gāo user can't create cinder volume with unicode error.

  Affected Xenial, UCA Mitaka ( this is modified after i re-testing all
  )

  Please refer to error code like below [1]

  [Test Case]

  1. deploy openstack env
  2. source novarc ( as admin )
  3. keystone user-create --name test
  4. openstack user set --password-prompt test
  4. log into keystone node and install mysql-client
  5. connect to mysql with keystone user
  6. do below query
  - set foreign_key_checks = 0;
  - update local_user set user_id='Gāo' where user_id='UUID';
  - update user set id='Gāo' where id='UUID';
  - set foreign_key_checks = 1;
  7. keystone user-role-add --user test --tenant admin --role Admin
  8. source novarc ( as test )
  9. cinder create --name test 1

  got unicode error on cinder-api node logs

  [Regression Potential]
  This patch make code handles unicode non uuid form user id. Basically this
has little risk. but cinder-api service need to be restarted.

Bug description:
  Hi,

  I have updated my kubuntu from 4.4.0-127-generic to 4.4.0-128-generic.

  When I try to boot with the new kernel, the system hangs during the
Flash-Screen.
  When I try booting in recovery mode, I can see, that the boot hangs with the
following message:
  Dependency failed for Cryptography Setup for cryptswap1
  Dependency failed for Encrypted Volumes
  Dependency failed for dev-mapper-cryptswap1.device
  Dependency failed for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1
  Dependency failed for Swap
  Dependency failed for /dev/disk/by-uuid/fea3e83b-933d-49fc-a3d0-88448a0b7871

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1772632] Please test proposed package

2018-06-14 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu-hwe-16.04 into xenial-proposed. The
package will build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu-
hwe-16.04/18.0.1-1~16.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Bug description:

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.5 ***

  A minor update, only xserver sync, some driver updates plus a newer
  Mesa.

  Mesa needs llvm-toolchain-6.0 and libclc, libdrm, updates.

  [Test case]

  upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  libdrm:
  Slim to none, changes from 2.4.83 to 2.4.91
  - amdgpu: new pci-ids, bugfixes
  - intel: new pci-ids
  - drm: some new ioctl's
  - exynos, etnaviv, freedreno, android: fixes, new stuff

  llvm-toolchain-6.0:
  None, a new package

  libclc:
  I'd say none, very little has changed, added support for llvm-6 is the main
reason for this slightly newer snapshot

  xorg-server:
  Slim, it's an upstream bugfix release, changes from 1.19.5 to 1.19.6+git
include:
  - security fixes
  - backported bugfixes to glamor, modesetting driver, xwayland etc

  mesa:
  New major release plus a few bugfix updates after that. Regressions at this
point are less likely. Upstream is tested by Intel CI system for instance. And
we're already testing it via a ppa on OEM systems for 16.04.5. Tracking bug for
the bugfix release (bionic) is bug 1772607

  [Other info]

  build order: [libdrm, llvm-toolchain-6.0], [libclc, xorg-server], mesa

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  openipmi service fails to start on arm64/ppc64le servers because
ipmi_ssif/ipmi_powernv is not loaded, and ipmi_si is loaded instead.

  [Test]
  sudo apt install openipmi
  sudo service openipmi status

  [Fix]
  ARM64 servers use ipmi_ssif instead of ipmi_si. Load ipmi_ssif instead.
  PPC64EL servers use ipmi_powernv instead of ipmi_si. Load ipmi_powernv
instead.

  [Regression Potential]
  ipmitool tries to load ipmi_si for any given architecture. Thus fails to init
on ARM and Power architecture. The patch adds logic for ipmitool to load
ipmi_ssif or ipmi_powernv for ARM and Power architecture. You might see a
regression on architectures that we still do not have official support for.

  [Impact]

  compute-image-packages is provided by Google for installation within
  guests that run on Google Compute Engine. It is a collection of tools
  and daemons, packaged as gce-compute-image-packages, that ensure that
  the Ubuntu images published to GCE run properly on their platform.

  Cloud platforms evolve at a rate that can't be handled in six-month
  increments, and they will often develop features that they would like
  to be available to customers who don't want to upgrade from earlier
  Ubuntu releases. As such, updating gce-compute-image-packages to more
  recent upstream releases is required within all Ubuntu releases, so
  they continue to function properly in their environment.

  With this release we also add a new binary package to the suite -
  google-compute-engine-oslogin which is for a future feature of using
  OS Login on GCE VM instances.

  In the SRU for Trusty the maintainer scripts removed manual handling
  of systemd services because systemd can be present on Trusty systemd
  due to recent changes.

  In the Trusty SRU the maintainer scripts are also changed to
  start/restart the shipped upstart jobs and also running
  google_instance_setup.

  [Test Case]

  When a new version of gce-compute-image-packages is uploaded to

   * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the
ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project
   * the CPC team will write new automated tests to cover new testable
functionality (if any) in the new package

Bug description:
  From time to time, CPU vendors release updates to microcode that can
  be loaded into the CPU from the OS. For x86, we have these updates
  available in the archive as amd64-microcode and intel-microcode.

  Sometimes, these microcode updates have addressed security issues with
  the CPU. They almost certainly will again in the future.

  We should ensure that all users of Ubuntu on baremetal x86 receive
  these security updates, and have them applied to the CPU in early boot
  where at all feasible.

  Because these are hardware-dependent packages which we don't want to
  install except on baremetal (so: not in VMs or containers), the
  logical place to pull them into the system is via the kernel, so that
  only the kernel baremetal flavors pull them in. This is analogous to
  linux-firmware, which is already a dependency of the linux-
  image-{lowlatency,generic} metapackages, and whose contents are
  applied to the hardware by the kernel similar to microcode.

  So, please update the linux-image-{lowlatency,generic} metapackages to
  add a dependency on amd64-microcode [amd64], intel-microcode [amd64],
  and the corresponding hwe metapackages also.

  Please time this change to coincide with the next updates of the
  microcode packages in the archive.

  I believe we will also need to promote the *-microcode packages to
  main from restricted as part of this (again, by analogy with linux-
  firmware).

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1761442] Re: sosreport: AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'decode'

Bug description:

  sosreport plugin(s) fail

  [test case]

  run sosreport, then extract the captured report and check the sos_logs
  /logs-plugin-errors.txt file for output like:

  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/sosreport.py", line 1300, in collect
  plug.collect()
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/plugins/__init__.py", line 877, in collect
  self._collect_strings()
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/plugins/__init__.py", line 860, in
_collect_strings
  (content.splitlines()[0]).decode('utf8', 'ignore'))
  AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'decode'

  one of the ways to trigger this is for sosreport to gather a file that is
larger than its max size to gather, for example log files over its --log-size
limit. To reproduce this way, first make sure one or more of the
sosreport-gathered log files are over 1m, e.g. on a newly-installed system
(where log files are small) you could do this just to generate logs:

  # udevadm control -l 7
  # for n in $( seq 1 50 ) ; do udevadm trigger ; done

  after that, /var/log/syslog should be larger than 1m. Then run
  sosreport and limit its log file size to 1m:

  # sosreport --log-size 1

  The resulting sosreport will contain the error while trying to gather
  the syslog.

  [regression potential]

  the currently failing plugins fail to gather any of their data, so
  there is not much regression for them, but this change has the
  potential to affect any plugin and prevent data gathering.

Status in python-pyvmomi source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  python-pyvmomi in xenial is outdated and does not allow connecting to vsphere
with TLS validation. Updating to 6.5 fixes this and probably a few other issues.

  [Test case]
  For example,

  >>> from pyVim.connect import SmartConnect
  >>> import ssl
  >>> context = ssl.SSLContext(ssl.PROTOCOL_SSLv23)
  >>> context.verify_mode = ssl.CERT_NONE
  >>> si = SmartConnect(host=host, user=user, pwd=password, port=port,
sslContext=context)

  should work.

  This is basically a HWE type scenario.

  [Regression potential]
  Compatibility with vSphere 4.1 is not guaranteed anymore. Some bug fixes; and
otherwise it's mostly just new data types and methods, so low likelihood of
regressions on that side. As a bonus point, we won't have any changes to bionic.

  [Original bug report]
  When adding VMware power type in 2.0.0 beta7:

  Failed to query node's BMC - __init__() takes 1 positional argument
  but 2 were given

  The same VMware details (UUID, vCenter IP address, username/password,
  etc.) worked in an earlier version of the maas server, which was
  Ubuntu 14.04 / maas 1.9.

  dist-upgrade from artful to bionic fails with attached tarball

  [Test case]
  artful:
  1. Install new desktop-file-utils
  2. check that dist-upgrade works
  bionic:
  1. Download new deb
  2. Run apt-get dist-upgrade path/to/deb in xenial to trigger upgrade with
that deb being upgraded too.

  [Regression potential]
  Packages installing desktop files to /usr/share/applications won't get put in
triggers-awaited state due to d-f-u.

  [Other info]
  Just fixing bionic makes an apt dist-upgrade work (not sure about
do-release-upgrade); but it might not work in other circumstances I guess, so
it might make sense to upload the fix to older releases.

  We can only verify artful and bionic, though, so xenial would have to
  go in unchecked.

  The trigger causes the desktop database to be updated, as such it is
  possible to use noawait here, as there's no reason for packages
  shipping .desktop files to be not configured just because the database
  has not been updated yet.

  The same change has been made in Debian in 0.23-2.

  [Original bug report]
  run `sudo do-release-upgrade` on a relativity new 16.04 EC2 instance.

  sosreport plugin(s) fail

  [test case]

  run sosreport, then extract the captured report and check the sos_logs
  /logs-plugin-errors.txt file for output like:

  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/sosreport.py", line 1300, in collect
  plug.collect()
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/plugins/__init__.py", line 877, in collect
  self._collect_strings()
    File "/usr/share/sosreport/sos/plugins/__init__.py", line 860, in
_collect_strings
  (content.splitlines()[0]).decode('utf8', 'ignore'))

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1776683] Re: Ubuntu guest agent on oVirt 4.2 cannot start

2018-06-14 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Versiony of >=Artful already got this update.
So this is about SRU thought only.

One would have to evaluate if 1.0.13 is a fix only release and/or if the
needed fix can be isolated.

  We run a bunch of virtual ubuntu servers 16.04 on a kvm/ovirt infrastructure

  As far as I understand this issue is fixed in ovirt-guest-agent version
