[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1772024] Re: linux 4.13.0-42.47 ADT test failure with linux 4.13.0-42.47 (nbd-smoke-test)

2018-06-15 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for fixing up the debdiff! I've sponsored it to Bionic after
making a couple changes:

 - Added links to the upstream commits in the changelog. This is helpful
since the patchless style of packaging doesn't have broken out patches
where you can add the origin in the patch tags.

 - Used the version string 1:3.16.2-1ubuntu0.1 to match the version bump
that's documented here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging

  [Impact]
nbd-server will crash when a client connects to it, if it was started without
a server name. It may also leak fds if fork fails.

  [Test Case]
Running the server with an empty config file and an image on the command
line, and then starting a local client will crash the server. After the fix, it
doesn't crash anymore, and a filesystem may be created and used after that.

  [Regression Potential]
The fix also implies a small package change, to use quilt. It has built just
fine and many tests have been run on top of those packages and no failure
seemed to be the result of those userspace changes, but known failures in the
kernel driver.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1763685] Re: Fix for flushing TM on coredump only if CPU has TM feature

2018-06-15 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Now that I review this again, I don't think commit
c1fa0768a8713b135848f78fd43ffc208d8ded70 is needed in Xenial proper, since it
is 4.4 based. Commit c1fa0768a871 fixes the following commit:
cd63f3c ("powerpc/tm: Fix saving of TM SPRs in core dump")

However, commit cd63f3c was not added to mainline until v4.13-rc4.

Can you confirm this? If commit c1fa0768a871 is not needed in Xenial,
there is nothing to test and this bug should be resolved since it's
specific to Artful and Xenial HWE kerenl(4.13 based).

Fix for flushing TM on coredump only if CPU has TM feature

  ---Additional Hardware Info---
  POWER9/POWER8/compat mode

  Machine Type = P9 baremetal + VM (POWER9, POWER8, Compat mode)

  ---Steps to Reproduce---
On POWER9 machines it's possible that TM is disabled for use by the VMs and
if a coredump is generated in the VM it will crash since it will execute TM
instructions when coredumping if a check is not present on the VM's kernel.
Since POWER9 can run VM on P8 compatibility mode, it's necessary to patch all
kernels that run on compat mode as well.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1696066] Re: Postfix module - Mailman wrapper - Couldn't write data/aliases.db and data/virtual-mailman.db files

2018-06-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Bionic and Cosmic have 1:2.1.26-1 so #1 and #2 are done.

Given that Mark identified this as:
a) uncommon issue
b) not affecting the usual way the packaging encourages
this isn't a high prio issue, so I'm not sure if it is worth the effort and
regression risk to backport it to former releases.

Bug description:
  Dear project leader

At least in version 2.1.23, there is a bug regarding permissions set
for Mailman data/aliases table and Mailman data/virtual-mailman map
when these files are created from scratch.

Here I describe the current behavior for the Mailman data/aliases
table only but the problem is identical for the Mailman data/virtual-
  mailman map.

In order, the following conditions have to be met:

  - Postfix need read access to the aliases.db file
  - Mailman like to be owner of those files and the Mailman group needs write
access to them

  I. Postfix needs a read access to the aliases.db file

We can either set permissions as 0660 and add postfix user to mailman
group (what I've done), or set the permissions as 0664

II. Mailman group needs a write access to those files at any time

The following behavior has been observed:

When creating a new list on command line, using bin/newlist script as
  follow:

  # newlist -u virtualhost foobar

the files will be created as follow:

  -rw-rw 1 root list aliases
  -rw-r- 1 root list aliases.db

The same thing has been observed when recreating the file from scratch
  using bin/genaliases:

  -rw-rw 1 root list aliases
  -rw-r- 1 root list aliases.db

Note that in both cases, files were not present. Thus, they were
  created from scratch.

As you can see here, the Mailman data/aliases file is created with the
expected group and permissions but the data/aliases.db file is only
writable by owner. From the POSTALIAS(1) command point of view, that
is the expected behavior: The file is created with the same group and
other read permissions as their source file.

The problem here is that with those permissions, creating a list
through Mailman interface later on will result in a permissions denied
error because the Mailman group, through the wrapper, cannot write
(update) the aliases.db file (no write permissions).

That is really a problem. Of course, one can just pre-create the files
  as follow:

  # cd /var/lib/mailman
  # sg list -c "touch data/aliases && postalias data/aliases"
  # chmod 0660 data/aliases*

but that seem tedious. What if at some point (for any reason), the
  files get recreated from scratch?

So, from my point of view, the MTA/Postfix.py module should always set
correct permissions on *.db file, to be sure that Mailman group has
write permissions, at least when the files are created from scratch.
  Eg:

  IF NOT EXISTS aliases:
     Touch data/aliases data/aliases.db with correct permissions (066x)
Add alias entries into aliases as usually
     Run POSTALIAS(1) command as usually

  Then, we are fine.

  Thank you.

  [Impact]

Currently the DKMS package fails to install in supported custom
kernels that are based on 4.11 or 4.13. That includes the current 4.11
hwe-edge and the upcoming 4.13 hwe-edge kernels and some of the custom
  and cloud kernels as well.

  [Test Case]

Install the DKMS package with the 4.13 hwe-edge kernel from -proposed.
The package installation should proceed without any errors.

  [Regression Potential]

Although new patches were added, the regression risk is very low since
the new changes are conditionally compiled based on the kernel
  version.

Besides that the new package was tested with the following kernels in
  an amd64 environment:

  - linux-generic 4.4
  - linux-hwe 4.10
  - linux-hwe-edge 4.11
  - linux-hwe-edge 4.13 (from xenial-proposed)
  - linux-azure 4.11
  - linux-azure-edge 4.13 (which is in process of getting promoted to
xenial-proposed)

  * DEP8 tests for php-sabre-vobject-3 currently fail in 16.04 because

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1761240] Re: SRU pollinate 4.33

Bug description:
  === Begin SRU Template ===
  [Impact]
The key change is that the user agent string as of Bionic now
contains the contents of systemd-detect-virt and /etc/cloud/build.info.
In aggregate, this gives us important usage data to detect improvements
and regressions in Ubuntu boot times.

  [Test Case]
  Launch a privileged container with:

  1. lxc launch ubuntu-daily:xenial -c security.privileged=true x1-priv
  2. lxc exec x1-priv -- apt update && apt -y install pollen

Run a local pollen server and have the pollinate (client) connect with
  that via:

  3. lxc exec x1-priv -- pollinate -r --insecure -s https://localhost

Then check in /var/log/syslog for the client user-agent string. On
systems without the updated pollinate client, the USER_AGENT value
  does not include virt:

  root@x1-priv:~# grep pollen /var/log/syslog | grep -c virt
  0
  root@x1-priv:~#

After upgrading to the newer client, virt is now present in the pollen
  entries:

  root@x1-priv:~# grep pollen /var/log/syslog | grep -c virt
  2
  root@x1-priv:~#

  [Regression Potential]
The script runs with 'set -e', that means that the 'pollinate' script
will exit failure if either of the commands or files above fail. These
scenarios seem unlikely, especially in Ubuntu environments.

  === End SRU Template ===
