  Tested on 16.04 and 17.10
  python-launchpadlib (1.10.5-1  on 17.10)
  python3-launchpadlib (1.10.5-1 on 17.10)

  While working on porting a utility using launchpadlib from Python2 to
  Python3, I noticed the binary attachments were becoming unreadable.

  I've tried uploading .jpg files, .tgz files, .tar.xz files, they all
  fail to open properly.

  P.S.: When a fix is available, can it be ported to Xenial? We need
  this for our tools running on devices using Xenial.

  [Test Case]
  I wrote a little proof of concept that uploads a given binary attachment to a
launchpad issue (see attachment). To use it on staging launchpad:

  APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py

  When using the exact same script with python2 (basically, replacing
  `python3` with `python` in the shebang line), the binary file is
  properly attached. That's why I think it's a bug with
  python3-launchpadlib.

  [Regression Potential]
  The only sensible way to fix this bug was to rewrite how wadllib does
MIME-encoding of its form uploads, so it'll be important to test both text and
binary uploads.

  Launchpad only defines a few methods that use multipart/form-data, so
  the regression potential is confined to those: bug.addAttachment,
  distro_arch_series.setChroot, and project_release.add_file.

  unminimize script is not restoring man-db

Status in livecd-rootfs source package in Bionic:

Bug description:
  Running the unminimize script from a minimal image (20180625 serial)
  results in a system that is missing man-db and potentially additional
  packages form ubuntu-standard. The script does restore the man pages,
  but an additional step of installing man-db is required to use them.

  This applies to the 20180625 serial for both xenial and bionic.

  The expectation is that unminimize would install man in addition to
  restoring the man pages.

  Are there other packages from ubuntu-standard that should also be
  installed during unminimize?

  [Impact]

   * Users running the unminimized script on a minimal image may be
  confused by the end result. The unminimize text indicates "restores
  the content and packages that are found on a default Ubuntu server
  system", but this is not the case as only the existing packages are
  restored plus ubuntu-minimal.

  [Test Case]

   * Run the unminimize script from a minimal image.

  [Regression Potential]

   * The changes only impact the unminimize script written to minimal
  images. As such it will only impact minimal images and only users
  wishing to rehydrate the image.

  [Other Info]

   * Cloud images have been built using the linked livecd-rootfs
  branches. The kvm images are available under
  https://people.canonical.com/~fginther/minimal/

I've uploaded a fixed systemd to cosmic and bionic for this (xenial will
follow when I sort out the best way to backport the fix). dannf should
be in a position to test this once a new d-i is built using the new
udev-udeb.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1729754] Re: Python3 version of launchpadlib doesn't properly upload binary attachments to Launchpad

2018-07-20 Thread Colin Watson
1.3.3 (2018-07-20)

- Drop support for Python < 2.6.
- Add tox testing support.
- Implement a subset of MIME multipart/form-data encoding locally rather
  than using the standard library's email module, which doesn't have good
  handling of binary parts and corrupts bytes in them that look like line
  endings in various ways depending on the Python version. [bug=1729754]

  Python3 version of launchpadlib doesn't properly upload binary

Bug description:
  Tested on 16.04 and 17.10
  python-launchpadlib (1.10.5-1  on 17.10)
  python3-launchpadlib (1.10.5-1 on 17.10)

  While working on porting a utility using launchpadlib from Python2 to
  Python3, I noticed the binary attachments were becoming unreadable.

  I wrote a little proof of concept that uploads a given binary
  attachment to a launchpad issue (see attachment). To use it on staging
  launchpad:

  APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py

  When using the exact same script with python2 (basically, replacing
  `python3` with `python` in the shebang line), the binary file is
  properly attached. That's why I think it's a bug with
  python3-launchpadlib.

  I've tried uploading .jpg files, .tgz files, .tar.xz files, they all
  fail to open properly.

  P.S.: When a fix is available, can it be ported to Xenial? We need
  this for our tools running on devices using Xenial.

  The latest Xenial update has broken MTU functionality in Xen: specifically,

Bug description:
  === Begin SRU Template ===
  [Impact]
  There is a race condition on a re-deployment of cloud-init on Azure
  where /mnt will not get properly formatted or mounted. This is due to
  "dirty" entries in /etc/fstab that cause a device to be busy when
  cloud-init goes to format it. This shows itself usually as 'mkfs'
  complaining that the device is busy. The cause is that systemd
  starts an fsck and collides with cloud-init re-formatting the disk.

  The problem can be seen other places but seemed to be most reproducible
  and originally found on Azure.

  [Test Case]
  1.) Launch a Azure vm, ideally size L32S.
  2.) Log in and verify the system properly mounted /mnt.
  3.) Re-deploy the vm through the web ui and try again.

  [Regression Potential]
  Worst case scenario, these changes unnecessarily slow down boot and
  do not fix the problem.

  [Regression]
  This SRU change caused bug 1717477.

  [Other Info]
  Upstream commit at
    https://git.launchpad.net/cloud-init/commit/?id=1f5489c258

  === End SRU Template ===

  As reported in bug 1686514, sometimes /mnt will not get mounted when
  re-delpoying or stopping-then-starting a Azure vm of L32S. This is
  probably a more generic issue, I suspect shown due to the speed of
  disks on these systems.

  Related bugs:
   * bug 1686514: Azure: cloud-init does not handle reformatting GPT partition
ephemeral disks
   * bug 1717477: cloud-init generates ordering cycle via After=cloud-init in
systemd-fsck

Bug description:
  SRU Request:

  [Impact]

  After bionic/linux-azure commit
  4fbb658dd8ce96384852ceae18b0b09034de7b36 (UBUNTU: [Config] azure:
  CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=n) the lttng_tracer module cannot find some symbols
  and cannot be loaded.

   kernel: [  639.538251] lttng_tracer: Unknown symbol lttng_hp_prepare (err 0)
   kernel: [  639.538280] lttng_tracer: Unknown symbol lttng_hp_online (err 0)

  This is caused by lttng-modules incorrectly handling the case when
  CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is not enabled.

  [Test Case]

  Install linux-azure >= 4.15.0-1014, install lttng-modules-dkms and run
  the autotest ubuntu_lttng_smoke_test testcase (or just 'sudo lttng
  list --kernel').

  [Fix]

  commit 894ce5dc825733d1ccab25b1aede9ce0be2a7c4e (Fix: do not use
  CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU for the new hotplug API)

  commit 1ee63d8d1b0aaf30564d3879d8e9282d0ddfef1b (Cleanup: comment
  about CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU ifdef)

  [Regression Potential]

  Very low. The two patches can be cleanly cherry-picked from the
  upstream commits. The first one that really fixed the issue just
  changes a single #ifdef to compile a piece of code when
  CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is not defined. The second one just updates some
  comments on the code to make them consistent with the changes.

  [Original Description]

  This test will pass with the older kernel, 4.15.0-1013-azure, but not
  the 4.15.0-1014-azure in -proposed.

  It looks like the kernel module can be installed, but four tests have
  failed:

  == lttng smoke test of session create/destroy ==
  Session test-kernel-session created.

Seems like ADT matrix does not receive any status right now. Should not
be related to kernel.

Testing looks good, only kept back by NBS status which is not a kernel
issue.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1662345] Re: smbios parameter settings not visible in guest

2018-07-20 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,
I have revived this bug and assigned myself to it.

It turns out that -smbios type=1,manufacturer=Scaleway is required by us
to trigger cloud-init's DataSourceScaleway on our infrastructure.

And, moreover, the functionality works as designed on Bionic :

# dmidecode | head
# dmidecode 3.1
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 3.0.0 present.
Table at 0xBC03.

Handle 0x0100, DMI type 1, 27 bytes
System Information
Manufacturer: Scaleway
Product Name: KVM Virtual Machine
Version: 1.0
# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename:   bionic
# arch
aarch64

So I am going to work on trying to identify what was added to version
1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.4 to make it work as expected.

Bug description:
  qemu-system-aarch64 supports -smbios parameters to export values into the DMI
tables.
  These values are viewable via /sys/class/dmi/id/* or via dmidecode (V3
tables).

  Passing in custom values for things like -smbios
  type=1,manufacturer="Foobar" should result in that value being
  viewable in-guest via dmidecode or /sys/class/dmi/id/*

  Testing with a Xenial qemu-system-arm and Xenial cloud-image shows
  that these smbios parameters aren't being modified.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Systems relying on renaming network interfaces at boot and when 'netplan
apply' is run.

  [Test case]
  - Write a new netplan YAML (adjusting for current system as necessary):
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: myif0

  - Run 'netplan apply'
  - Verify that the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.
  - Reboot.
  - Make sure the device is correctly renamed to 'myif0'.

  [Regression potential]
  Changes in rename logic to add udev rules may otherwise impact applying
different settings to the network interfaces. Changes in settings on network
interfaces, missing parameters (especially on bonds, bridges) should be
investigated as potential regressions. Other failures to apply network settings
might also happen if there's a race between applying renames via the udev
rules, and using the new names to apply configuration changes to the interfaces.

  === systemd issue ===

  Renaming devices doesn't seem to work.

  If I disable all other network configuration and create
  /etc/systemd/network/10-network.link with:

  [Match]
  MACAddress=52:54:00:c1:c9:bb

  [Link]
  Name=myiface3

  I expect this to cause the device with that MAC address to be renamed
  to myiface3. However, when I reboot, I instead see:

  $ ip l
  1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode
DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:c1:c9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The device is not renamed.

  This link file is pretty much identical to Example 2 in
  https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.link.html.

  The renaming does work if I boot with net.ifnames=0, and oddly, it
  also works if I unbind the device and rebind it as netplan apply does.
  No setting of NamePolicy seems to help.

  === Original Bug ==

  'set-name:' doesn't change the name of a network interface on boot, it
  only works when you do netplan apply.

  Say I take this 50-cloud-init.yaml file:

  # This file is generated from information provided by
  # the datasource. Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
  # To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
  # /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
  # network: {config: disabled}
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:de:bd:f6
  set-name: ens3

  Say I change set-name to 'myiface3' and reboot. I expect that the
  device will be called myiface3 and brought up fine with dhcp. However,
  instead I see:

  $ ip a
  1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  2: ens3: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

  The name has not been changed, and the device has not been brought up.

  If I run netplan apply however, I see the following:

  1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
  link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
  inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  inet6 ::1/128 scope host
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
  3: myiface3:  mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state
UP group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 52:54:00:de:bd:f6 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  inet 192.168.122.151/24 brd 192.168.122.255 scope global dynamic myiface3
     valid_lft 3575sec preferred_lft 3575sec
  inet6 fe80::5054:ff:fede:bdf6/64 scope link
     valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

  So names are successfully changed with netplan apply.

  This seems to be some udev-related timing or priority issue that I'm
  still trying to hunt down.

  This breaks some forms of migration in
