[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1776996] Re: secureboot-db out of date, missing revocations from Aug 2016

2018-10-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package secureboot-db - 1.4~ubuntu0.16.04.1

---
secureboot-db (1.4~ubuntu0.16.04.1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Backport secureboot-db from cosmic to apply the August 2016 dbx updates
from Microsoft.  LP: #1776996.

Status in secureboot-db source package in Bionic:

Bug description:

  --
  A signed variable update for secureboot dbx has been published by Microsoft
to uefi.org; last updated 2016-08-11:
http://www.uefi.org/sites/default/files/resources/dbxupdate.zip

  This file has not been included in the secureboot-db package in
  Ubuntu; so users who only boot Ubuntu and not Windows will not have
  these revocations applied, meaning their firmware will trust (and
  possibly be exploitable by) whatever binaries these revoked hashes
  correspond to.

  Additionally, the attributes of the EFI variables need to be modified
  before trying to call sbkeysync so that the database update can be
  applied.

  Test Case
  -
  On a UEFI system with secureboot disabled do the following
  1) Check the output of 'mokutil --dbx'
  2) Update secureboot-db to the version from -proposed
  3) Check the output of 'mokutil --dbx' and verify its different from the
first run

  Additionally it should be verified that the new package installs on a
  secureboot-enabled system, in a container, on a BIOS-booted system.

  Regression Potential

  Its possible the revoked hashes are incorrect so they should be double
checked to ensure they match the Microsoft update.

  Original Description

  Separately, I seem in testing to be unable to apply this signed database
update to my system using sbkeysync, despite having the Microsoft CA in my KEK.
 So it's possible that sbkeysync doesn't work; we may need to either fix it, or
switch to other code that does work, such as the dbxtool in Fedora.

  But, after I update (apt-get upgrade) to Ubuntu 16.04.5(x64),Ghostscript
9.25, I print the same file with the same driver there is an error reports:
  "Filter Error"

  I figure out that all the papersize with define "LeadingEdge" can't print
success after update.
  (with "LeadingEdge":A5, Statement, A4(without "LeadingEdge") is print Okay).

  I view the "CUPS Error Log",there is an error reports when print job fails:
  "Ghostscript command line: /usr/bin/gs -dQUIET -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE
-dBATCH -dNOINTERPOLATE -sDEVICE=cups -sstdout=%stderr -sOutputFile=%stdout
-sMediaType=Plain -sOutputType=Pass=1,Direction=1 -r600x600 -dLeadingEdge=1
-dMediaPosition=7 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=420 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=595
-dcupsBitsPerColor=8 -dcupsColorOrder=0 -dcupsColorSpace=1
-scupsPageSizeName=A5 -I/usr/share/cups/fonts -c \'<>setpagedevice\' -f -_

  Unrecoverable error: undefined in .putdeviceprops"

  Ubuntu 18.04(x64), Ghostscript 9.22 also have the same problem.

  --
  ghostscript had confirm that this a bug of ghostscript 9.22(and the later
version).

  Below information is the correspondence of ghostscript:
  https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700023
  ---

  Our printer driver users(also users of Ubuntu 16.04) can't do their normal
print jobs.
  So, we are eagerly hopping that you can offer us a patch(Ubuntu 16.04) to fix
this bug?

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Cannot configure race-free generic-ccw devices to be onlined on
  boot.

  [Test Case]

  # on a z/VM

  $ sudo chzdev -d 0.0.000c 0.0.000d 0.0.000e
  $ sudo chzdev -e 0.0.000c 0.0.000d 0.0.000e
  $ sudo update-initramfs -u
  $ sudo reboot
  $ lszdev

  Expectations is for generic-ccw c-d-e devices to be "yes yes" meaning online
and persistent online.
  Previously after a reboot they would be "no yes" meaning offline yet
persistent configured online.

  [Regression Potential]

   * generic-ccw rules need to be `upgraded` / `regenerated` which is
  not done in maintainer scripts in this upload for now.

  [Other Info]

   * fix contributed upstream at

  https://github.com/ibm-s390-tools/s390-tools/pull/45/files

   * original bug report

  Linux s390x as VM guest can use the VM-specific reader (0.0.000c),
  puncher (0.0.000d) and printer devices (0.0.000e).

  They can be enabled as usual with chzdev like:
  lszdev | grep '000c\|000d\|000e'
  generic-ccw  0.0.000cno   no
  generic-ccw  0.0.000dno   no
  generic-ccw  0.0.000eno   no
  sudo chzdev -e 000c 000d 000e
  Generic CCW device 0.0.000c configured
  Generic CCW device 0.0.000d configured
  Generic CCW device 0.0.000e configured
  lszdev | grep '000c\|000d\|000e'
  generic-ccw  0.0.000cyes  yes   vmrdr-0.0.000c
  generic-ccw  0.0.000dyes  yes   vmpun-0.0.000d
  generic-ccw  0.0.000eyes  yes   vmprt-0.0.000e

  Aa a result of that activation udev rules are generated:
  ls -la /etc/udev/rules.d/41-generic-ccw-0.0.000{c,d,e}.rules
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root  238 Sep 21 06:24 41-generic-ccw-0.0.000c.rules

  -rw-r--r-- 1 root root  238 Sep 25 10:15 41-generic-ccw-0.0.000e.rules
  cat /etc/udev/rules.d/41-generic-ccw-0.0.000{c,d,e}.rules
  # Generated by chzdev
  ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="ccw", KERNEL=="0.0.000c",
GOTO="cfg_generic_ccw_0.0.0
  00c"
  GOTO="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000c"

  LABEL="cfg_generic_ccw_0.0.000c"
  ATTR{[ccw/0.0.000c]online}="1"

  LABEL="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000c"
  # Generated by chzdev
  ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="ccw", KERNEL=="0.0.000d",
GOTO="cfg_generic_ccw_0.0.0

  GOTO="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000d"

  LABEL="cfg_generic_ccw_0.0.000d"
  ATTR{[ccw/0.0.000d]online}="1"

  LABEL="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000d"
  # Generated by chzdev

  GOTO="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000e"

  LABEL="cfg_generic_ccw_0.0.000e"
  ATTR{[ccw/0.0.000e]online}="1"

  LABEL="end_generic_ccw_0.0.000e"

  Once this is done it's expected that this configuration is persistent
  and that these three devices are automatically activated after a
  reboot, which is not the case:

  lszdev | grep '000c\|000d\|000e'
  generic-ccw  0.0.000cno  yes
  generic-ccw  0.0.000dno  yes
  generic-ccw  0.0.000eno  yes

  A 'sudo udevadm trigger' doesn't help to activate them again.

  Another 'sudo chzdev -e 000c 000d 000e' helps, but again for the
  current session only.

  [Test Case]

   $ chzdev zfcp --type datarouter=0 dbflevel=5

  Should succeed, instead of erroring out / not able to find modprobe.

  [Regression Potential]

   * This corrects compiled-in path to /sbin/modprobe, thus making
  available previously a broken codepath of chzdev.

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug report

  Description: only when trying to change some attributes chzdev fails
  because it cant find modprobe under Ubuntu 18.04

    root@m83lp09:~# chzdev zfcp --type datarouter=0 dbflevel=5
    sh: 1: /usr/sbin/modprobe: not found
    zfcp device type configure failed
    Error: Command failed (exit code 127): /usr/sbin/modprobe

    root@m83lp09:~# whereis modprobe
    modprobe: /sbin/modprobe /etc/modprobe.d /lib/modprobe.d
/usr/share/man/man8/modprobe.8.gz

  Potential solution ? : adding a symlink is a workaround, is this path
  hardcoded?

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1800610] [NEW] [SRU] minimize number of manually installed packages

2018-10-30 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Releases prior to cosmic mark almost all packages manually installed, meaning
that obsolete packages are not autoremoved when they should. We fixed this in
cosmic, in trunk r1695, by including a new script that marks as automatically
installed all dependencies of manually-installed metapackages.

[Test case]
Run a build and check in the log that some packages are visited by the script
in more than one iterations.

[Regression potential]
First of all, this does not change existing installations; only new ones. The
change can cause packages to be autoremoved that were not autoremoved before
after performing a package management operation, or dependency change in
packages.

The change is essentially safe: Since we only mark dependencies of
packages in the section "metapackages", and since those receive special
treatment by apt:

1. removal due to dependencies/conflicts: the manual bit transfers from the
meta to its deps
2. explicit removal (apt remove meta): meta and its dependencies are removed

It is not possible to accidentally uninstall the entire metapackage with
its dependencies.

change can cause packages to be autoremoved that were not autoremoved before
after performing a package management operation, or dependency change in
packages.

  The change is essentially safe: Since we only mark dependencies of
  packages in the section "metapackages", and since those receive
  special treatment by apt:

  1. removal due to dependencies/conflicts: the manual bit transfers from the
meta to its deps
  2. explicit removal (apt remove meta): meta and its dependencies are removed

  It is not possible to accidentally uninstall the entire metapackage
  with its dependencies.
