fix 361c093d7f99c3f6cbb07d5c580ce778ab418c42

Btrfs: Wait for uuid-tree rebuild task on remount read-only

If the user remounts the filesystem read-only while the uuid-tree
scan and rebuild task is still running (this happens once after the
filesystem was mounted with an old kernel, or when forced with the
mount options), the remount should wait on the tasks completion
before setting the filesystem read-only. Otherwise the background
task continues to write to the filesystem which is apparently not
what users expect.

Bug description:
  KDE Project Security Advisory
  =

  Title: kconfig: malicious .desktop files (and others) would execute
code
  Risk Rating:High
  CVE:CVE-2019-14744
  Versions:   KDE Frameworks < 5.61.0
  Date:   7 August 2019

  Overview

  The syntax Key[$e]=$(shell command) in *.desktop files, .directory files, and
configuration files
  (typically found in ~/.config) was an intentional feature of KConfig, to
allow flexible configuration.
  This could however be abused by malicious people to make the users install
such files and get code
  executed even without intentional action by the user. A file manager trying
to find out the icon for
  a file or directory could end up executing code, or any application using
KConfig could end up
  executing malicious code during its startup phase for instance.

  After careful consideration, the entire feature of supporting shell commands
in KConfig entries has been removed,
  because we couldn't find an actual use case for it. If you do have an
existing use for the feature, please
  contact us so that we can evaluate whether it would be possible to provide a
secure solution.

  Note that [$e] remains useful for environment variable expansion.

  Solution

  KDE Frameworks 5 users:
  - update to kconfig >= 5.61.0
  - or apply the following patch to kconfig:

https://cgit.kde.org/kconfig.git/commit/?id=5d3e71b1d2ecd2cb2f910036e614ffdfc895aa22

  kdelibs users: apply the following patch to kdelibs 4.14:

https://cgit.kde.org/kdelibs.git/commit/?id=2c3762feddf7e66cf6b64d9058f625a715694a00

  Credits
  ===
  Thanks to Dominik Penner for finding and documenting this issue (we wish
however that he would
  have contacted us before making the issue public) and to David Faure for the
fix.

  Title: kconfig: malicious .desktop files (and others) would execute
code
  Risk Rating:High
  CVE:CVE-2019-14744
  Versions:   KDE Frameworks < 5.61.0
  Date:   7 August 2019

  Overview

  The syntax Key[$e]=$(shell command) in *.desktop files, .directory files, and
configuration files
  (typically found in ~/.config) was an intentional feature of KConfig, to
allow flexible configuration.
  This could however be abused by malicious people to make the users install
such files and get code
  executed even without intentional action by the user. A file manager trying
to find out the icon for
  a file or directory could end up executing code, or any application using
KConfig could end up
  executing malicious code during its startup phase for instance.

  After careful consideration, the entire feature of supporting shell commands
in KConfig entries has been removed,
  because we couldn't find an actual use case for it. If you do have an
existing use for the feature, please
  contact us so that we can evaluate whether it would be possible to provide a
secure solution.

  Note that [$e] remains useful for environment variable expansion.

  Solution

  KDE Frameworks 5 users:
  - update to kconfig >= 5.61.0
  - or apply the following patch to kconfig:

https://cgit.kde.org/kconfig.git/commit/?id=5d3e71b1d2ecd2cb2f910036e614ffdfc895aa22

  kdelibs users: apply the following patch to kdelibs 4.14:

https://cgit.kde.org/kdelibs.git/commit/?id=2c3762feddf7e66cf6b64d9058f625a715694a00

  Credits
  ===
  Thanks to Dominik Penner for finding and documenting this issue (we wish
however that he would
  have contacted us before making the issue public) and to David Faure for the
fix.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1833410] Re: idle-page oopses when accessing page frames that are out of range

Status in linux source package in Xenial:

Status in linux source package in Bionic:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Cosmic:
  Won't Fix
Status in linux source package in Disco:

Bug description:
  == SRU [Xenial][Bionic][Cosmic][Disco] ==

  == Justification ==

  When accessing page frames that are greater than max_pfn using the
  idle-page sysfs interface an oops is triggered that kills the process
  that writes to the sysfs interface.

  == Fix ==

  Upstream fix currently in linux-next:

  https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-
  next.git/commit/mm/page_idle.c?id=d96d6145d9796d5f1eac242538d45559e9a23404

  This fixes the maximum pfn threshold allowed.

  == Test ==

  sudo stress-ng --idle-page 0

  this should trigger the oops in ~50% of the cases due to the way the
  threshold calculation in the kernel was handling the maximum threshold
  based on pfn alignments. 31 of 63 of the times it may be under the
  threshold so no oops occurs. If it does not, increase or decrease the
  number of available pages in a system to trigger the sweet spot of the
  bug.

  == Regression Potential ==

  Minimal, this touches a sysfs kernel interface that is not used much.
  The fix narrows the scope of touching specific page frames, so the
  page frame scope is reduced by the fix.

Bug description:
  Impact
  --

  Users willing to use the slapd rwm overlay will face a slapd
  segmentation fault when trying to rewrite some rules. Backporting this
  fix will allow users using stable releases to take advantage of this
  feature without crashing slapd. This issue was fixed by upstream not
  freeing the rwm overlay filter memory without prior checking.

  Test Case
  -

  In this test case, the rwm overlay will be used and a rule will be
  created to deny any search request for uid=root, then the 'ldapsearch'
  will be invoked to trigger the failure. It is important to mention
  that the 'ldapsearch' command should fail regardless the presence of
  the bug in the package, the target here is the slapd crash. To
  reproduce this bug one can follow the procedure below in Ubuntu
  xenial, bionic or disco:

  $ sudo apt-get update
  $ sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils -y

  Reconfigure the slapd package. When asked about a domain, use "example.com".
  Choose a password you want (or just leave it blank), and accept defaults for
  everything else:

  $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd

  Create a file called 'add-rwm.ldif' with the following content:

  $ cat add-rwm.ldif
  dn: cn=module{0},cn=config
  changetype: modify
  add: olcModuleLoad
  olcModuleLoad: rwm

  dn: olcOverlay=rwm,olcDatabase={1}mdb,cn=config
  changetype: add
  objectClass: olcOverlayConfig
  objectClass: olcRwmConfig
  olcOverlay: rwm
  olcRwmRewrite: {0} rwm-rewriteEngine "on"
  olcRwmRewrite: {1} rwm-rewriteContext "searchFilter"
  olcRwmRewrite: {2} rwm-rewriteRule "(.*)(uid=root)(.*)" "$1$2$3" "#"

  With this file in place, run:

  $ sudo ldapadd -Q -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f add-rwm.ldif

  Now, to trigger the crash:

  $ ldapsearch -x -h localhost -b dc=example,dc=com -LLL uid=root
  Server is unwilling to perform (53)
  Additional information: searchFilter/searchFilterAttrDN massage error

  slapd process will die, and /var/crash will have a crash file for slapd. You
  can run the following command to confirm the error:

  $ cat /var/log/syslog | grep filter_free
  Aug  9 19:51:05 popular-gorilla slapd[1479]: filter_free: unknown filter
type=28530

  Regression Potential

  Since the fix is a patch provided by upstream (reviewed by maintainers
  and us) simple mistakes like typos are not expected. The patch impacts
  only the rwm module which is not loaded by default. So any regression
  would affect only the users that make use of this overlay. If an user
  is not using rwm overlay and is facing any issue, it should be related
  to other problems related to LDAP directory services.
