2020-02-18 Thread Dan Streetman
upstream systemd issue is https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/11198
As launchpad was failing to sync the status of the upstream issue, I just
marked it manually as fix released.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

pam_setcred call was missing in systemd making its implementation of the PAM
protocol incomplete. It could manifest in different ways, but one particularly
problematic for enterprise environments was the fact that
processes were never getting group membership they were expected to get via
pam_group module.

  [Test Case]

   * Add a /etc/security/group.conf entry, e.g.
     *;*;*;Al-2400;dialout,users
   * Add pam_group to your PAM stack, e.g. /etc/pam.d/common-auth
   * Login to the system and launch gnome-terminal (it will be launched via
gnome-terminal-server launched by systemd --user + dbus).

  Expected result:
Logged in user is a member of 'dialout' and 'users' groups.

  Actual result:
no group membership gained from pam_group.

  [Regression Potential]

   * It introduces a new PAM warning message in some scenarios (e.g. for
systemd DynamicUser=1 units) for users that can't authenticate
  (pam_setcred fails in such case).

   * In certain systems user group membership may be extended by
  pam_group.

  [Other Info]
  Original bug description:

We are using Ubuntu in a university network with lots of ldap users.
To automatically map ldap users/groups to local groups we are using
pam_group.so. This has worked for years.

With the upgrade from Xenial to Bionic /etc/security/group.conf is not
evaluated anymore by gnome-terminal as it runs as systemd --user.
Xterm, ssh, su, and tty* however do work as expected. Only the default
  gnome-terminal behaves different.

  According to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=851243
  and https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=756458 this
might not be a bug, but a feature.

Nevertheless this behavior is very unexpected when upgrading from
Xenial to Bionic and therefore should at least added to the changelog.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

There appears to be another issue with
  > dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon

Like in #1792051, the command ends up in an infinite loop, just that
this time it happens between 'Log file for clamav-daemon' and 'Do you
want to enable log rotation?', with one more step between also
  included in the loop.

Purged and reinstalled the package with no effect.

  Effected package: clamav-daemon 0.102.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.19.10.2 (arm64)

EDIT: I was able to reproduce the error on a different system (also
  0.102.1+dfsg-0ubuntu0.19.10.2, just amd64 instead)

  [Test Case]

  (1)

  Here's how to reproduce:
  * Deploy Bionic
  * Install clamav clamav-daemon

(As a debug exercise and confirmation of the infinite loop in action,
with the use of "export DEBCONF_DEBUG='.*'" one can confirm it.)

  * Perform:
  DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive DEBCONF_NONINTERACTIVE_SEEN=true
dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon

Make sure it completes fine and doesn't enter an infinite loop.

  ---

  (2)

Run "dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon", make sure all of the debconf
prompts that are supposed to be there are actually reachable,
including the one modified by this SRU "LogTime"[0] and
  "LogRotate"[1].

[0]- Do you want to log time information with each message?
[1]- Do you want to enable log rotation?

Here's a test where I intentionally reconfigure the package and set
both LogTime and LogRotate from 'yes' (true) to 'No' (False).

  # egrep "LogRotate|LogTime" /etc/clamav/clamd.conf
  LogRotate true
  LogTime true

  # dpkg-reconfigure clamav-daemon
Replacing config file /etc/clamav/clamd.conf with new version
Disabling old logrotate script for clamav-daemon

  # egrep "LogRotate|LogTime" /etc/clamav/clamd.conf
  LogRotate false
  LogTime false

  [Regression Potential]

Right now, the impact is limited to the reconfiguration of the
package. This is a consequence of the removal of ScanOnAcces (701f0e8e
  Remove ScanOnAccess).

It's been proven to be working well pre-SRU.

If a regression is found, it will likely remain limited to the package
  reconfiguration.

I added another verification to address vorlon's concern found in
comment #16. See section (2) in [Test Case].

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1863108] Re: New upstream microreleases 9.5.21 10.12 11.7 and 12.2

2020-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package postgresql-10 - 10.12-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

---
postgresql-10 (10.12-0ubuntu0.18.04.1) bionic-security; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (LP: #1863108)
- A dump/restore is not required however, if you use the contrib/intarray
extension with a GiST index, and you rely on indexed searches for the <@
operator, see the release notes for details in regard to a related fix.
- Add missing permissions checks for ALTER ... DEPENDS ON EXTENSION.
Marking an object as dependent on an extension did not have any
privilege check whatsoever. This oversight allowed any user to mark
routines, triggers, materialized views, or indexes as droppable by
anyone able to drop an extension. Require that the calling user own the
specified object (and hence have privilege to drop it). (CVE-2020-1720)
- Details about these and many further changes can be found at:

   * MRE for latest stable fixes of Postgres release on Feb 13th.

  [Test Case]

   * The Postgres MREs traditionally rely on the large set of autopkgtests
to run for verification. In a PPA those are all already pre-checked to
 be good for this upload.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Upstreams tests are usually great and in additon in the Archive there
are plenty of autopkgtests that in the past catched issues before being
 released.
But never the less there always is a risk for something to break. Since
these are general stable releases I can't pinpoint them to a most-likely
 area.
 - usually this works smoothly except a few test hickups (flaky) that need
to be
clarified to be sure. Pre-checks will catch those to be discussed
upfront (as last time)

  [Other Info]

   * This is a reoccurring MRE, see below and all the references
   * This includes a fix for CVE: CVE-2020-1720 (Affects 9.6-12, so all but
xenial)

  ---

  Current versions in supported releases:
   postgresql-9.5 | 9.5.19-0ubuntu0.16.04 xenial
   postgresql-10 | 10.10-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 bionic
   postgresql-11 | 11.5-1eoan
   postgresql-12 | 12.1-2build1 focal

  Special cases:
  - Focal will as usual be synced from Debian.
 I already see
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=postgresql-12=s390x=12.2-1=1581600108=0

Last relevant related stable updates: 9.5.21, 10.12, 11.5 and 12.2
You'll see that the last update was missed, so I'll combined them.

Standing MRE - Consider last updates as template:
  - pad.lv/1637236
  - pad.lv/1664478
  - pad.lv/1690730
  - pad.lv/1713979
  - pad.lv/1730661
  - pad.lv/1747676
  - pad.lv/1752271
  - pad.lv/1786938
  - pad.lv/1815665
  - pad.lv/1828012
  - pad.lv/1833211
  - pad.lv/1839058

As usual we test and prep from the PPA and then push through
  SRU/Security as applicable.
