[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1627909] Re: zfs-linux should be using python3 for python userspace tools

2016-09-27 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Elevating priority to "critical", as this is blocking zfs from landing
in the default Ubuntu Server seed. Adding a task for Xenial, and
marking this bug for SRU, as we want to bring this back to 16.04 as
well. Thanks!

older python2

  [Test case]
running these ZFS helper tools should run with w/o python2 installed (and
instead work with python3)

  [Regression potential]
These helper scripts for checking ZFS state won't work if we regress. However
it will not affect overall ZFS per se as these scripts are useful utilities and
not part of the core ZFS functionality. Risk to ZFS core functionality on this
SRU is therefore zero.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1615143] [NEW] [SRU] update python-petname and golang-petname libraries in xenial

2016-08-19 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Public bug reported:

Please backport/update/SRU the golang-petname and python-petname
packages in Xenial to the new ones from Yakety. These are needed for
the MAAS 2.0 and LXD 2.0 builds. The new model uses much simpler, more
pronouncable and memorable names -- a critical complaint of current MAAS
and LXD randomly generated names.

Note that this update is 100% API compatible.

Bug description:
Please backport/SRU pollinate to 12.04 LTS, and update pollinate in
  14.04 LTS and 16.04 LTS.

  [Impact]
Pollinate doesn't exist in 12.04 LTS, but should. It has been steady and
solid throughout the 14.04 and 16.04 releases of Ubuntu, improving the PRNG
keys in cloud instances. And there are still plenty of Precise cloud instances
out there. This upload also fixes a couple of bugs (which are already well
validated on 16.04) in terms of when the systemd job runs, not running in
containers, logging the correct PID, and timing out correctly.

  [Test Case]
Pollinate can be tested on an existing system by specifying the -r|--reseed
option. 'sudo pollinate -r' should exit 0 and appropriate, successful log
messages should be displayed. You can also test the boot time run by removing
the seeded flag with 'sudo rm -f /var/cache/pollinate/seeded', rebooting, and
then 'grep pollinate /var/log/syslog'.

  [Regression Potential]
Regression potential should be low, as entropy seeding is opportunistic.
Boot should never hang or block. At most, it should add a second or two to
boot, and it should fail gracefully, logging to syslog, and retrying again at
each reboot.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1605635] [NEW] [SRU] Please backport pollen

2016-07-22 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Public bug reported:

Please backport pollen version >=4.21 to Trusty and Xenial.

[Impact]
We need a newer version of pollen running on entropy.ubuntu.com. Canonical IS
requires that the package be updated in trusty-updates in order for this to
happen. We need a couple of things fixed: improved error logging and entropy
available monitoring,

[Test Case]
Start a new Ubuntu instance (trusty, xenial). sudo apt install pollen
pollinate. Then, try running pollinate against localhost: 'sudo pollinate -r
-s http://localhost:80'. Also, check that an appropriate message is logged in
/var/log/syslog. grep pollen /var/log/syslog.

[Regression Potential]
The regression potential is mostly around the upstart/systemd jobs. We should
just be sure that the service starts/stops/restarts cleanly, and comes up
automatically at boot.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1582360] [NEW] crashes all the time in xenial

2016-05-16 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Public bug reported:

Hollywood always crashes (eventually) in 16.04, because the splits
change sizes, and eventually, one of them will fail to run in a split.
And when any one exits, all of hollywood exits. This is completely
fixed in the latest upstream release 1.8, which is already in Yakkety.
It should be SRU'd back to Xenial.
