tire wear
I noticed my front tire is wearing more on the right side than the left. Should it be doing this or is it telling me the camber is off? It's due to be replaced soon & there's some cupping but the assymetric wear worries me. Doesn't seem to affect handling though. Also, if anyone has a broken/bent/unusable lower front arm, or knows where there is one, that I can get very cheap / free I'd like to cut one up, do some metallography, thickness measurements, tensile testing, & chemical analysis. I'd post the results. Thanks Bill
Re: Mail order?
Timothy, Since you asked check out http://www.wallyscycleworld.com . Actually, I recently started working here, but Walt's been a friend of mine for years. We cater primarily to the Harley aftermarket, but our suppliers are Custom Chrome, Biker's Choice, Vance & Hines, Drag Specialties, etc - all of which have parts / tires / etc for the GTS. Been getting my expendables from Wally's for some time now. Give us a call, tell them I sent you. -Thomas '94 GTS == Thomas H. Rejected message: sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] by [EMAIL PROTECTED] follows. Reason for rejection: sender not subscribed. --- Sunday night I tried to adjust the chain...should be an easy, 15 minute procedure, done many times before...right? The rear caliper retaining bolt was very tight--I needed a 6" extension on my socket wrench to loosen (yes, the correct direction!) it at all. Normally I just loosen the bolt, adjust the chain, and re-tighten it (with a torque wrench if possible). In this case, since it was so stiff, I decided to remove the bolt, so I could clean the bolt and threads on the swingarm, check for corrosion, and replace the bolt (if needed). After about 3/4~1 turn out (the bolt was clearly coming out--the sliding metal clip and caliper were loose), the bolt sheared off inside the swingarm. Yuck. The bike's now in the shop (FastLane Cycles in Chantilly, VA) to have what's left of the bolt drilled out. Since the swingarm had to be pulled for that little procedure, I'm having the swingarm lubed and tapped for grease fittings. Mark --
RE: GTS Death Valley ride pics
Alright! Send these pictures to me and I'll post them on my website. I'll have to make them smaller and probably won't be able to post them all at the same time. But, I'll do my best! Do me a favor and break them down into several emails. Although I'm not short on bandwidth, I believe our Exchange server might be limiting the size of a single email. Give it a try and we'll see what happens. RE: GTS wheels
John, Where did you guys get your wheels from? I realize the sidecar sizes are no good to me but, I'd love to get a set of lightweight good looking wheels for the GTS. As far as I know nothing is available. The front wheel is IMO the worst design element of the GTS. Too swoopy looking. It's not really horrible but it looks like it would be better suited on a hot rod or a cruiser. If you need a front wheel, rear wheel, front arm parts, or that oil-window cover, check out the sidecar builders.
